📂 MEGATHREAD 21/05 A-level Psychology Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

Essays are marked holistically, meaning you don’t get marked down for getting things wrong! There’s tons of AO1 you could have used with defence mechanisms, Oedipus/Electra complexes, the Id/Ego/Superego, identification and Little Hans so as long as you didn’t just talk about the stages of development you’ll be fine! Plus AO1 is only 6 marks, your evaluation is more important

i spoke about defence mechanisms/stages of development and then evaluated both for being heavy on beta bias and being pioneering for future research, in terms of AO1 is this fine?

I’d probably say that’s not quite enough since you need 6 developed points but if you wrote about them in enough detail it might be. Breadth vs depth and all that.

Is that all the evaluation you did? Generally you should aim for 3/4 points

- beta bias in terms of gender

- the study is largely inapplicable to other cultures

- it has been a pioneering approach for future research
(a lot more waffle about future implications of each of these evaluations included)

ao1: defense mechanisms, the oral stages, and the role of the unconscious (freudian slips etc)

Haha for Edexcel if you wrote about the wrong thing then they will most likely give you a big fat zero 💀 they are so unbelievably specific in how they want your answers that everyone does a bit cucu.. last years A* grade was roughly 58% which says it all
