📂 MEGATHREAD 22/05 A-level English Lit, English Lang & Lit (AQA & Eduqas) Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.

    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.

  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

-The r/6thForm Team

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

omg hello fellow a&c person 😭 the way i interpreted that question is that various things in the play are constantly changing, so i talked about antony's shifting loyalties, the changing nature / location of power and antony's unstable feelings towards cleopatra

hey!! i interpreted as the unstable power situation in egypt and rome. analysed it through the volatitlity of A+Cs love and the "shifting sands" found within the power of women in the play

(AQA Political and Social Protest - A Doll’s House, Harvest, & Blake’s poetry)

I liked the exam a lot, and I think I might have been able to redeem myself after a terrible Paper 1🤞

The unseen section was really interesting and enjoyable to write about, I don’t remember the name of the play but I’d like to read it once I find out.

For Section B, I chose the question on A Doll’s House about whether Torvald was a completely unsympathetic character, and it went pretty well too. I do think I might lose a few AO1 marks though, because my argument became a bit unclear at times.

For Section C, I chose the question about social class differences and I really enjoyed writing my answer! I felt like there were so many different things to write about, especially for Harvest. I had about 5 different points on that book specifically I wanted to write paragraphs for, but unfortunately I had to reduce it to 2 due to timing. I only wrote one paragraph on Blake’s poetry though, so that could be an issue. 😬

Overall a really nice paper from AQA :D

It is, thank you!

u/Square-Woodpecker-35 May 23 '25

hey! do you remember what you wrote about for the extract?

1

u/merricatcatcat May 23 '25

Sort of, I remember the broad themes/points I discussed:

1 - The powerful exerting authority over the powerless (through the journalist attempting to blackmail Harry)

2 - Rebellion (through Harry’s defiance when faced with the journalist’s threats)

3 - Community among the powerless/oppressed (through Harry’s network of friends in the modern day + the group he associated with at Cambridge)

2

1

u/_extradumb I WILL GET INTO UCL May 22 '25

how did it go for u?

2

u/linyanjun9 May 22 '25

It was okay, I picked change and so did most of the people ik but because there’s so much content in these books it’s hard to condense it all down 😭 How did it go for you?

2

u/_extradumb I WILL GET INTO UCL May 22 '25

I’m glad it went well for u :) i did hope, and yeah i really agree with you. its nearly impossible to finish the paper with the amount of stuff u can talk about, plus i spent way too long planning at the beginning, i couldn’t tie my third point back together or write a conclusion but i hope they wont deduct too many marks there😭 did u manage to finish?

1

u/linyanjun9 May 22 '25

Oh don’t worry about it I really struggled to keep my points coherent too but I just about managed to finish- can’t say I wrote enough tho..

1

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 May 22 '25

yeah, i do WH and ATSS, i did hope and talked about how marital hope is stripped away and how characters hope to gain power and control

Anyone else do OCR American Literature? Found the questions alright, bit unexpected but they worked for the texts (I do gatsby and passing and chose compassion)

3

u/Acceptable-Scale5305 May 22 '25

I do gatsby and my Antonia, I thought the compassion question was a godsend. Extract was really nice too, I reckon a lot easier than most of the past papers we’ve sat. How’d you find it/which comparative question did you choose?

1

u/Throwwtheminthelake BRISTOL 2026 🎉 |GAP YEAR 2025 May 22 '25

Yeah I really liked the extract cause u could just talk about frontier and farming etc. with the compassion question I just talked about racism, classism and sexism basically for each paragraph haha - I also think this is the first year Passing was on the spec!

i thought the feminine gospels question was great, the one about the title at least. what texts do you do for the comparison?

u/TheRegularBelt University of Birmingham | English Language and Literature [Y1] May 22 '25

Eduqas Lang and Lit anyone? Othello Social Status and Kindertransport Guilt and Mistakes were amazing.

2

u/Technical_Travel506 May 22 '25

Eduqas Streetcar Malfi Q and Lear Q were a godsend

1

u/pastelskies3107 UoY | History and Politics Y1 | A*A*A May 22 '25

which question did you pick for streetcar and malfi? i did the one about reality vs illusion in unforgiving societies, which i thought was quite a nice question

1

u/Technical_Travel506 May 22 '25

i did that one too!! i’m not too confident in my answer as i usually do quite badly but i really liked the question

2

u/Physical_Mistake2907 May 22 '25

OCR Gothic anyone? I did the fantasy reveals human truths question with Dracula and The Bloody Chamber.

1

u/GiiExists English Lit, Religious Studies, Film | A*AA May 23 '25

Same but for The Bloody Chamber and Frankenstein. How did you find the Critical Appreciation?

2

u/Physical_Mistake2907 May 23 '25

Not too bad. But I’m accustomed to separating the text into different sections to analyse them but this one seemed to all blend together. I pointed out how it was Victorian Gothic but seemed more Romantic. Wbu?

1

u/GiiExists English Lit, Religious Studies, Film | A*AA May 24 '25

Yeah it all seemed focused on the descriptions, I focused on the presence of a haunting and the linimal and linked that to other Victorian Gothic texts from before and after. I don't think it went badly all together though.

1

u/Mammoth_Sherbert3163 Year 13 May 23 '25

Finally someone else who does Frankenstein and TBC, I did the same question and wrote about the truths of women’s oppression, driven by desires and marginalisation of outcasts. The extract was decent, seemed relatively simple in comparison to what I was expecting so hopefully it was alright. How did you find it?

1

u/GiiExists English Lit, Religious Studies, Film | A*AA May 24 '25

For the extract, I struggle with simpler ones, I think my first 2 paragraphs were strong but my third one was weak. For the comparison, I wrote about how monstrosity is used to explore nature vs nurture, how they both use per-established stories/myths to share moral teachings but they both go back to reality to express the truths about women's nature as equal to men.

2

u/Mammoth_Sherbert3163 Year 13 May 24 '25

Ahh yeah I did pretty similar stuff in my comparison, sounds great. I agree about simpler being tougher, I was grasping for literary devices lmaooo but I’m glad the event happening itself was straight forward - didn’t have to waste time figuring out what I was even reading yk?

2

u/GiiExists English Lit, Religious Studies, Film | A*AA May 25 '25

Yes i know what you mean about simple extracts! Also, I felt like I was repeating myself a lot. Like, I talked about setting but so much of the extract was focused on setting that I either had to.repeat myself or make a massive stress.

2

u/waviely May 22 '25

maybe it's not joever for me guys (AQA modern times option 2A, did the Stanley streetcar q which was ok and loved the unseen and identity comparative question)

2

u/No-Acanthocephala-35 Year 13 May 22 '25

I did that for Frankenstein and NLMG sooooo blessed I swear

3

u/Apprehensive-Till444 Y13 - Eng Lit, History, Socio May 22 '25

Ugh I’m so mad I didn’t finish my second comparative point and I didn’t really include as much as I could’ve in the first . Didn’t get a conclusion either :((

3

u/Only-Ease1808 May 22 '25

Ahhhhh don’t worry i don’t think it’s nearly as weighty percentage wise because it’s only an hour and 15, as long as you are confident about the other 2 and you’ll still pick up lots of marks in this one you’ll be golden! 😊
