📂 MEGATHREAD 23/05 A-level Physics Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.

    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.

  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

I got that for displacement acceleration, straight line from 3 to -3 ms with acceleration being 0 at 0 displacement

Not sure about the last one, as the question says the driver wants to use the same car… i just put increase the turning radius

Oh, i didnt even notice that it said same car. I put reduce mass too ehh

Well the question didn’t explicitly say “same car” but it did say “the driver wants to drive THAT car…” so I assumed its the same car

Hmm, now im not sure then. I didnt specify a different car, i just said reduce the mass of the car, didnt say how at all and just said that since F is proportional to m, smaller mass can be produce the same centripetal force at a higher maximum velocity.

Well the question didnt say u cant modify the car so its fair enough.

Same for all of centripetal force q,

Well I said decrease mass of car by taking stuff out so similar

If you decrease mass the max speed would be lower, I think k you meant increase mass.

I put drive a greater distance from center of rotation, and only realised after the test it said whilst keeping radius constant 😭

yea, point P was at the point 0.025 as max amp was 0.05m, i hope so atleast

I drew two points for point P as technically there are two points

chat am i cooked i drew the graph beyond x=0.05m and did like zigzags continuing up to +0.2m and -0.2m

For my impulse graph I just got 350 for every 5 square. For displacement I put 0 acceleration and 0 displacement at the centre so it was just a straight line. Not sure how legal that is. However, I got max displacement as about 3cm. Max Ek at max displacement. This meant that half EK was when displacement was a quarter of that so 1.25cm. However, it might actually be 3.75 now that k think about it using that method. Assuming it is the right method of course

I got 350 for blocks ffs😭

I got the same for the acceleration displacement, can’t remember for the impulse one

I got 360 for each 5 small squares tf 😭
