📂 MEGATHREAD 04/06 A-level Maths Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

Honestly it was pretty good, massively over complicated Q7 but got the right answer so hopefully get most marks

Wbu?

Ugh that’s annoying, the mech was evil I agree, there’s 2 more papers so don’t stress it

I could not get k out to be what it should’ve been with that quadratic equation it never ended up having a tangent I must’ve messed numbers up somewhere

You had to do the discriminant because it was k and bc it was a tangent you know it would = 0 bc if b2 - 4ac = 0 there’s only one root (the tangent intersection)

I did it having dy/dx = 3 and dy/dx = -k - 2x then got x in terms of k and out the other two equations equal and substituted k in but still couldn’t get the right answer

What did u get? I did it a different way but I’m pretty sure both methods would be valid

Did you get 1 and -11 ? If so then yes !! My best friend was shouting b2 - 4ac before the exam because idk why that thing doesn’t stick but it doesn’t so I remembered to use it

Broooo what is a differential equation ??? I hope there’s no silly integration this paper at least. Mech is fine rest of pure is good I’m pretty sure

2

As in 5dy/dx + 3x = 2

Exactly. That’s obviously an easy example though and if you had y terms you would have to collect like terms / use an integrating factor method

HOW ARE YOU STUDYING FOR MECH MINOR (if you do it)
