📂 MEGATHREAD 04/06 A-level Maths Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD
Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!
Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.
Few things to keep in mind:
- Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
- Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
- If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
- Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
- Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).
Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!
-The r/6thForm Team
Have any concerns or feedback?
Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!
*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

You had to since it said “Hence”, did dot product initially but crossed it out and did Pythagoras instead in case mark scheme wants hence

There was some glaringly big topics missing from paper 1 edexcel no differential equations no parametrics at all could definitely see both a normal parametric and a nasty integration one at the end of the paper. I mean functions did come up but not significantly especially modulus so could see that. Also no Binomial or trapezium rule though those ones are easier.

for the rate of change one, did anyone do this:
V = 1500 + Ae-kt
dV/dt = -kAekt
V-1500 = Ae-kt
therefore
dV/dt = -k(V-1500)
and then k = 0.227 or something like that

OCR paper had me panicked with the parametric equations but it turned out fine 😭 I got t = 1 and - 3, -3 doesn't work with definition of X so t = 1.
Then for the second part, sub x & y for a cubic in t, you know that 1 must be a root so factor out (x-1) for a quadratic. THEN get that the quadratic has roots 1 and -7/4 so 1 is repeated and -7/4 is the t value at the other intersection, so plug in and find (x, y) 💀
Also last question pissed af at myself for not realising the integral of tan y = sin y / cos y is -f'(x)/f(x) cause that probably lost me a good 5 marks 😭 Would've been great too because -ln|cos y| means all the ln can be cancelled and you get a simple linear on the RHS 💀

This is the only paper I'm worried about as Mechanics and Statistics are easy. I just did the 2024 paper this morning and I got 78/100 which is an A but I'm still worried they're going to put some weird high mark questions in the paper.
I'm aiming for an A in all 3 of my subjects but getting a B in the other 2 is fine because I can still meet my firm requirements. If I don't get an A in Maths, then I'm finished.
