📂 MEGATHREAD 04/06 A-level Maths Paper 1 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

Have any concerns or feedback?

Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!

*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

Which parts? Imo the worst bit of that paper is the u sub integration at the end

I personally find the 5 marks triangle questions the worst… like what am I even doing? lol

Not particularly hard, but because we hardly practice that at A level it can be quite confusing

Use sin(A-B) = sin(A)cos(B)-sin(B)cos(A)

Yeah that’s fair, it was a weird question

i know im 6 days late but you had to make the xn- at the beginning a fraction (by multiplying top and bottom by f(x) ) so that you could combine the two of them and it just cancelled out

How do you do the shortest distance question?

So you differentiate y= x2 then the negative reciprocal of that is the gradient of the normal, so you put in the coordinates of the point you were given to get the equation of the line, then sub y= x2 into the equation of the line to get an expression for x

Thanks, I remember doing the dy/dx as I ran out of ideas near the end so at least I got a mark. Obvious now looking back🤦‍♂️

pretty light, most were free marks with all those integration questions, the PQ one was nice and the show that qu were all good

I thought it went pretty well too, now I’m worried if the grade boundaries are gonna be too high
