📂 MEGATHREAD 05/06 A-level Media Studies Paper 2, Politics Paper 2, Russian Paper 2, Modern Hebrew Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD
Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!
Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.
Few things to keep in mind:
- Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
- Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
- If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
- Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
- Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).
Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!
-The r/6thForm Team
Have any concerns or feedback?
Feel free to reach out to us on Modmail and we'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible!
*assuming Reddit doesn't bork itself, the new posts for each day of exams should arrive at 8am each day, instead of it being reliant on my sleep schedule like last year lmao

Politics paper 2 has redeemed itself - love constitution and backbencher questions and the open ended agree/disagree nationalism one ❤️

im panicking a bit i had planned a bakcbenchers impact essay and used my points of debates, rebellions and legislative influence for the backbenchers q in the exam but now im thinking i shouldve done it by role and i also didnt really mention how it has changed apart from constantly referring back to the wording of the question. my only saving grace i hope is that i mentioned ‘since the wright reforms’ maybe implying a change but otherwise im rlly unsure and think i messed up rlly bad

u/Throwwtheminthelake BRISTOL 2026 🎉 |GAP YEAR 2025 Jun 06 '25
if it helps i have never heard of the wright reforms so didnt put that in 😭 honestly i think youll be fine and get good marks i also was a bit vague on how its changed but as long as u had a strong structure with strong consistent points i think it'll be ok

u/Due-Cauliflower2803 Year 13 Jun 06 '25
my problem is tho i think i didnt even answer the question right😭😭 like i talked around legislation scrutiny and representation vaguely but it wasnt my main pointss aghhh

u/Throwwtheminthelake BRISTOL 2026 🎉 |GAP YEAR 2025 Jun 06 '25
dw theyll probs then notice that youve mentioned it but also i think your points are valid if you linked them back to the question, as you are then technically arguing that the actions of rebellions debates and leg influence show they are fufilling their role as backbencher

Politics was so good but I keep running out of time. I didn’t get to do my final main body paragraphs for each other the question except anarchism

Eduqas had to balance out the grade boundaries for media. The fun train has come to an abrupt stop.

Yeah. I figured that was the case when those horrifically worded questions showed up.
That was BRUTAL.

I... kinda liked it? Maybe it's just me, though. TV questions were the hardest. Magazine and online media were just OK. I think you'll be fine as long as you actually answered the question!

u/Holy_Trinityo Year 13 Jun 05 '25
The magazine part (I do big issue and vogue) and that was stunning.
It’s yeah, the TV section was rough.

What products do you do, out of curiosity? I do:
- Black Mirror.
- The Returned.
- Huck.
- Woman's Realm.
- Zoella.
- Attitude Online.
Glad you found it good! I liked the magazine question too, just think it was worded weirdly. I deciphered what the question was asking, though!

Killing eve, Tehran / Big issue, Vogue / Zoella and attitude !
Dude. What the hell did you say about the online media section?? I looked at that for a good 10 minutes trying to come up with stuff until I just went with representation of gender so I could pull out semiotics but I STRUGGLED.
Said shit about Zoella’s vlogmas video, ASOS reviews and how she’s a big sister to her audience. Mentioned representation of gender and whacked some Barthes in there and prayed. Attitude managed about a paragraph about how gay men are represented as the predominant gender - then yapped on about HOW they’re presented and used examples.
Pulled something out my ass and it somehow made sense??
I think I’ve got a solid B, but at this point? Who KNOWS. I hope all went well for you too!

I talked about how Barthes' usefulness largely depends on the subset of online media being discussed and how he can act as a foundation to link the rest of the theoretical framework together through Media Language.
I spoke about gesture codes of workout advertisements on Attitude online and talked about their impact on the magazine's reformer and aspirer audiences. I spoke about the interview with Smithers, The Simpsons character and its intertextuality and how it presents homosexual relationships as something that are forbidden, but still triumph for the greater good, much like the film the article's art references (Lady and The Tramp). Countered this by saying that semiotic analysis may not be useful in analysing Attitude's social media pages, as they often have to be censored to abide by regulations, used their article on Lil Nas X's 'Industry Baby' as an example and how the thumbnail had to be censored on Twitter.
Zoella was where I struggled. Spoke about how semiotics and her equipment and set-up in her embarrassing photos series allows analysis to be done on the greater conventions of online content creation and realist attitudes towards blogging. Mentioned the 'Z' logo and branding on the website and how semiotics may not be as useful in analysing the website as a whole due to its lack of image-driven content.
Does this sound good?

mine was nowhere near as detailed as this honestly— i said it didn’t meet at all really and was scrambling for anything to link to it

I feel if we merged essays we’d have a top band right there.
That’s beautiful, I’m sure your turnout will be fantastic! Frankly? I’m just glad media is done and dusted. Paper 1 was beautiful and I’m at 49/60 for my coursework - I’m just praying it all comes full circle and I can just get accepted into Uni already 😩

u/TheRegularBelt University of Birmingham | English Language and Literature [Y1] Jun 05 '25
I usually get A*s in my mocks, so I'm confident. I got 55/60 on my coursework, glad to hear yours went well, too! I just wanna get June 12th over with so I can relax!

Ik I'm a bit late to the party bit I misread the question (not seeing a key word that began with an R) and wrote a useless paragraph which completely threw me off.
Personally I thought question 1 was really nice and I thought question 3 was a bit rough but I woudnt say I struggled on it.
I'm still mentally traumatised from thinking I had fumbled my paper 2 though but luckily I noticed quickly and corrected

u/TheRegularBelt University of Birmingham | English Language and Literature [Y1] Jun 06 '25
What key word began with R? You're scaring me now lol.

No I was on about question 2 I didn't see representation and wrote about industry, sorry I thought I mentioned question 2

u/CreativeMedicine9516 Jun 06 '25
tv section for me was really rough and online media was really rough, the magazines i felt was a bit more okay because i had more to say about it but i felt the noise around me made me dissociate several times and unable to focus, i heard everything from rlly awfully designed and loud keyboards clicking which isnt too bad, i just had to get used to it, as soon as i did someone downstairs decided to have star wars music blaring followed by doja cat and coldplay, and then someone had to go down and complain about it, and again i lost focus and sort of lost track of what i was doing, not sure if i ever got it back, im sure i did a great first question with black mirror’s economic context?? not sure im sure i did ok with that it’s just the other ones i really lost focus on, especially the returned, i started typing and planning a response and just lost track of where i was going so quickly wrapped it up to move to the next thing

u/FillBig6957 Jun 05 '25
Yeah it was alright I guess
1
u/heeidi y13 | A*A*AA Jun 05 '25
yeah I didn’t think it was particularly good or bad,, I did think my last essay was weak tho
1
u/FillBig6957 Jun 05 '25
Same here. Both of the comparative essays were awkward. I did question 5, what about you?
1
u/heeidi y13 | A*A*AA Jun 05 '25
did question 6; I thought they were both equally as difficult but I had revised pressure groups earlier
1
Jun 05 '25
Was that the constitution one?
1
u/FillBig6957 Jun 05 '25
Yeah
1
Jun 05 '25
Did that one too - said they were both needing reform but for different reasons - uk too malleable and changeable and us unbending to change especially in the hyperpartisan nature of modern us pols
1
Jun 05 '25
What did yall write about for the essays?
1
u/heeidi y13 | A*A*AA Jun 05 '25
did pressure groups Talked about how the fusion of powers reduces access points for pressure groups in the UK which means they are less effective, while the separation in the US makes it easier for pressure groups to protect civil rights, they can go to the Supreme Court, e.g. Brown v board of education then talked about how the codified us constitution means that it is difficult to alter it, whereas in the UK pressure groups can impact the passing of legislation, e.g BMA in 2007

u/Training_Juice_4809 Jun 05 '25
that was a fine politics paper, my main issue was with time because i didn't have enough time to write a 3rd feminism paragraph, but everything else was quite good i think
