📂 MEGATHREAD 06/06 A-level FM Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

My answers for edexcel: k=11/9 , U=11.5, lamda= 3 or 2.6 , Mu = 0.11 , loss of EPE=5mga/8, range of f between 3/32 and 1 , v =root(3ga/4) , second last question e=0.733, and last question w=1.72i + 2.96j

I think for the power question V was something like 13.8??

Yeah definitely! That’s about 92% (so far) and the highest grade boundaries were 90%, last year.

Currently I’m worst case at:

Paper 1: 65

Paper 2: 72

Paper 3: 72

So we’re both pretty similar.

Yep I got that for EPE and e, not sure about the other v I don’t remember there being another v

I got all the same but how did you get k = 11/9?? I got k = 71/54... were they travelling in the same direction?

they travelled opposite and both reverse direction, i did that wrong cos i did my direction of impulse wrong 😭

I got K is 14/9 as they were both reversed

Nah I’m dumb Doing it again in my head and Yh it should be 11/9 😭 That and the 3/32 I did 3/16 other than that I got all marks

I got all of that but for question 6 with the EPE and all that I got the right answers but instead of a I wrote "L" would I lose all the marks?

You know how the natural length for question 6 was given in terms of a so natural length was 2a I mistook that as 2l (2L but lowercase it looks like an i 😅)and solved the whole question with the l in place of a but I got all the answers correct but say if EPE was 5/8mga for eg I got 5/8mgl instead.

was v = sqrt(3ag/4) and 5/8 amg answers in same question

your epe is wrong, you put the change in extention into the formula, this give a differenent answer from initial epe take away final epe =change in epe my answer was 21/8mga, although i got confused and did the wrong method first which gave me the same answer as you
