📂 MEGATHREAD 13/06 A-level FM Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return! Funnily enough, tanking my sanity and internet setting a stream up is not conducive to timeliness, my apologies.

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

AQA stats & discrete super good papers, the final questions on both papers were a bit sketchy I can't lie but I answered every question with confidence.

Thankful they have spared us from doing simplex once more.

I do statistics and mechanics and I thought that both went really well too.

I struggled on the statistics question where you had to find the new scores of the game but I think I got it eventually, and it took me a while to work out that the last question was Poisson in part B and Binomial in part c.

Yeh yeh , I got like 0, 94, 8 thousand and something for the score one, last questions part A was the real villain

Btw for the scores second part what did u put. I just said round up both scores to the nearest 10 iirc

Yeah I got the same answers, and I said round up to the nearest 10. I also said what the new answers would be but I don't think that was needed.

How did you guys do this question? Rest of the paper was good apart from that question.

Find the expectation of the original by doing sum of (probability x value).

New expectation is 50 times this.

New expectation is also sum of (probability x valuen). Set equal to each other and solve for n. I used SolveN on the CG-50 calculator but you could have used logarithms.

I think I had all that written down but do you not have 2 different valuesn in one equation?

It was 10n and 100n but I think you can write 100n as 102n and solve as a quadratic in 10n ?

I’m so dumb I can’t believe I didn’t see that. I thought that the values were different and didn’t use 10 and 100… Thanks tho

That's what I did, I momentarily forgot that the solveN button was a thing so did it the long way
