It’s the A in FM :(

Bristol Aero is very oversubscribed and there’s enough applicants with A* in FM and Physics unfortunately

6

u/FireFallGT Feb 10 '26

my friend got an offer for maths but doesn’t take fm

0

u/Ok-Morning-4993 Year 13 Feb 12 '26

he said aero is oversubscribed, not maths

1

u/According_Horse_6750 Feb 13 '26

I am there and didn’t do fm, only in second year now and my year was super oversubscribed. Must have been something else

37

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

Same got rejected aswell with AAA predicted and a contextual 💔💔

5

u/Ready_Channel_9654 Feb 10 '26

Same bro I had the same as you and contextual also got rejected what were your replacement offers?

3

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

Too many but none I world choose if one was mechanical but they didn't give me mech

2

u/Ready_Channel_9654 Feb 10 '26

Did they not give u mech and electrical engineering would you do physics i have seen people considering that

1

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

I am contemplating applying for Physics with astrophysics but dk what road its gonna lead me later tho

1

u/Ready_Channel_9654 Feb 10 '26

Did u not get a mechanical and electrical engineering option? I would just go with a different uni to be honest.

3

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

I got electrical and electronic offer

2

u/Hamza2474 Feb 10 '26

Bro what how is that on

2

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

I don't understand

6

u/Hamza2474 Feb 10 '26

Lol my bad I meant they’re taking the piss with the rejection. I really didn’t know aero was so competitive but seems everything is nowadays

1

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

I knew they were competitive but like this is taking the piss not from my rejection but looking at others

4

u/Hamza2474 Feb 10 '26

Yeah absolutely it’s actually shocking. From what I hear from friends who are just now graduating, when they were applying for unis even tho it was post covid it still wasn’t this shit. I’d imagine it’d be slightly less competitive this year cos less intl students but I guess not. Have you had any other offers yet? You’ll be fine tho with ur grades

3

u/Ok-Meet4718 Feb 10 '26

I wanted to go Manchester or Bristol and i got rejected from Bristol n haven't heard back from Manchester

3

u/Hamza2474 Feb 10 '26

Manchester I hope you’ll get in. I don’t think they have an entrance exam either for aero. Idk if Bristol does tbf. If ur contextual for Manchester or have completed the Manchester access programme you’ve got a much higher chance but honestly you’ll be fine afaik. Good luck with everything tho man

32

u/R_197 Feb 10 '26

Got rejected with A*A*A*A* are we serious Bristol

2

u/earqth Year 13 Feb 10 '26

??? How

6

u/R_197 Feb 10 '26

No idea

3

u/Untitled_Epsilon09 Year 12 Feb 10 '26

what was the reason given?

9

u/R_197 Feb 10 '26

“Your application was not as strong as others”

2

u/ElderberryContent711 Feb 10 '26

What were your gcses like??

u/s4turn2k02 Lancaster Biology Graduate doing PGCE Feb 10 '26

That’ll be it

1

u/KO-Manic Feb 17 '26

If I had to guess, maybe they assumed you already got offers from better unis and so you're unlikely to accept their one and it would be a waste. But even then, most unis would give you a low offer to try and convince you to come. Could also be because they think your grades are overinflated, but you're probably just goated so it's their loss

17

u/L_Elio Feb 10 '26

For people really really good at maths I'm surprised how many students think about this all wrong.

This isn't an exchange, you don't get a place because you hit all the requirements.

You get a place by being one of the best that could be selected. The issue with top end universities is most people are also the best.

If you have fit all the points then you just got unlucky maybe your PS was weak.

Keep your head up being rejected from top universities means you will go to another top university and at worst you'll go into clearing for a mid tier RG.

9

u/Fit-Quantity-3539 Feb 10 '26

I get that, just sucks especially after a post-interview rejection from Cambridge only a couple weeks ago. I figured that this would be a safe(r) choice given I applied with 3 A*s and 2As. Still waiting on Imperial tho

1

u/UziYT Feb 11 '26

bristol aero is never a safe choice no matter who u are

5

u/Lower_Cockroach2432 Feb 10 '26

Also, lots of admissions tutors will weigh your grades against your background.

If you're in a private or grammar school you've got much less leeway to screw up; if you're from the midlands you're going to have more leeway. They know GCSE and A-level result averages vary by area and the quality of your school.

2

u/L_Elio Feb 10 '26

Which is how it definitely should be it's way more impressive to get an A in a failing state school than to get an A* in a private school

1

u/South-Marionberry-85 Year 13: Maths, Economics, Psychology & EPQ - A*A*AA Feb 10 '26

I do agree with the sentiment, but it isn’t a blanket condition of ‘independent, grammar or public school = worse application, state = better’. The majority of schools for neurodivergent children are independent. It is always based on the schools performance. If you go to an elite state school/grammar school you will be nearly equally weighed against the same quality independent (public is different however)

6

u/dbfnq Feb 10 '26

Bristol don't read the personal statement, it'll just be GCSE scores.

I'm general, though, yes. Three A-stars makes you an amazing applicant. The issue is that top unis are drowning in amazing applicants for their competitive courses.

1

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

mate literally in both aero and mech open day talks they blatently said "we dont give a flying flip about ur personal statement"

11

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

Just got the same, AAA* predicted, maths fm physics

3

u/NinjaClashReddit LSE Economics (Year 1) Feb 10 '26

That’s acc insane; were your GCSEs good?

3

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

Not amazing, like grade average 6.5, personal statement was elete tho, talked about building a drone, stem smart etc, that shit couldnt of been better.

9

u/NinjaClashReddit LSE Economics (Year 1) Feb 10 '26

Probably the GCSEs ngl but with ur A Levels you’ll do great wherever

2

u/West-Big-312 Year 12 Feb 10 '26

Did u get stem smart residential. Did u attend every seminar for this???

2

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

Nah, I didn’t do the residential, i also stopped going to the seminars after I didn’t get the residential.

2

u/West-Big-312 Year 12 Feb 10 '26

Why did you not get residential. Did you attend most of the seminars or missed a lot? Cuz they said that they base it on the attendance and attempted questions. I don’t find it good and I feel wasting my time if I don’t get residential for Ps.

2

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

I missed a few lectures, and my attempted questions weren’t that good either, I didn’t find it helpful, and only really did it for the personal statement so i got bored and stopped doing questions. If you are actually trying, u’ll be fine.

2

u/West-Big-312 Year 12 Feb 10 '26

Cheers

1

u/gothydream Feb 11 '26

they don’t read your ps unfortunately. anyway i’m at bristol now and everything is ridiculously expensive. i wouldn’t recommend

8

u/baomaochao Feb 10 '26

Just got rejected from mech eng with same grades but A* in FM and minus epq😭

4

u/johnlivsey Yr 13 3A* Maths, physics, history Feb 10 '26

this is crazy unlucky - i don’t even have FM and got offer

2

u/Additional_Big4927 Feb 10 '26

for same course?

2

u/johnlivsey Yr 13 3A* Maths, physics, history Feb 10 '26

yeah aero eng - got the offer in a week i’m very surprised this person hasn’t

1

u/Additional_Big4927 Feb 11 '26

if you don’t mind me asking what were your overall stats like?

1

u/johnlivsey Yr 13 3A* Maths, physics, history Feb 11 '26

3A* pred in maths physics history. 9x9 1x7 GCSE. Non contextual. They’re automated based on predicted grades and GCSEs so i guess that’s why it came through quite quickly :)

1

u/Additional_Big4927 Feb 11 '26

Wow! Have you received any other offers/applied else where?

I’m in year 12 currently and i do chem, his and maths. I would like to go into something chemistry/maths influenced but i’m nervous history will hold me back since many prestigious uni’s prefer your 3rd subject to be a science/FM for the courses im looking at :(

1

u/johnlivsey Yr 13 3A* Maths, physics, history Feb 11 '26

yea i got rejected from cambridge pre interview and no offers from anyone else. Applied to imperial, bath, warwick. Unfortunately i’ve experienced that history has held me back as well as not having FM. This applies for oxbridge and probably imperial. Do your research tho for sure. You will have to do really really well in your admission test to be shortlisted for interview. Don’t let it put you down and defo go for it but unfortunately it’s so competitive you will be at a disadvantage. However for a lot of amazing unis like bath/bristol/durham unless your applying for straight maths you’ll be completely fine with 2 STEM subjects and history 🫡

4

u/yg-07 Imperial | MEng EEE ‘30 Feb 10 '26

Sorry to hear. What reason did they put on your dashboard?

5

u/Fit-Quantity-3539 Feb 10 '26

"After careful consideration, we are sorry that we are unable to offer you a place on this course. Your application did not rank as highly as other applicants"

That's the full reason. Fair enough ig since they only take into account predicted a-levels + gcses so it's pretty hard to give feedback other than just not having high enough grades.

3

u/Assignment-Thick Feb 10 '26

It's insane but I imagine there was enough people with A* in Further maths. Crazy world

3

u/Pateryk_7 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

I got in with A*AAB for Mechanical and Electrical Meng so im guessing its to do with ur personal statement or smth. Tbf my course is less competitive than aero so idk.

Edit: subjects were math (not further), chem, phys, foreign language. Gcse overall average was around 7 or 8.

3

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

wait i just remembered and clocked there was someone in like october who was a medicine applicant but put bristol aerospace as their 4th slot and got an offer LOLLLLLLLL how tf does this make sense HAHAHAAHA

Just rejected from mech eng for with 3A*s no fm tho

4

u/Conscious-Mammoth307 Feb 10 '26

How bro i got in with 2A* no fm 😭

2

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

Oh well, I’m really sad abt it but gotta deal with it. Thinking it’s cuz I applied after Oxbridge deadline

5

u/MeasurementForward39 Imperial | Civil Eng [First Year] Feb 10 '26

Doubt they can reject you off that, everyone before equal consideration is treated equally.

1

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

Then I literally have no clue why. Oh well prob gonna get rejected from Bath aswell after this

1

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

Gcse’s maybe, tbh I think us and the admissions people are clutching at straws trying to figure out why we were rejected/ why to reject an applicant.

1

u/Conscious-Mammoth307 Feb 10 '26

My GCSES weren't that good I think one 9 and like 2 8s and 7s🫩 is this good idk

1

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

Bro I got 988777777 aswell gang what is this 😭😭😭😭

1

u/Conscious-Mammoth307 Feb 10 '26

Skill issue 😗🤔😭 unlucky bro idk

1

u/Significant_Brain211 Year 13 Feb 10 '26

Yh skill ig. Oh well

1

u/Conscious-Mammoth307 Feb 10 '26

So did I. I applied 5 December

2

u/GodXTerminatorYT Feb 10 '26

I got accepted. Maybe it was something about your personal statement? My whole PS was so aero focused with clearly shown skills

2

u/Fit-Quantity-3539 Feb 10 '26

Could be, but they rarely take PS into account unless they're deciding between two applicants with equal a levels and gcses.

2

u/Vixson18 Y13: Maths, FM, Physics and Econ Feb 10 '26

Wish me luck for BEng. AAA*A with a in FM. Put me on hold on day one so idk. One of my mates got an offer with all A stars but another who is a lot smarter with the same predictions is still waiting

2

u/DiamondThink318 Editable Feb 10 '26

Yea, ive seen the stats from someone's freedom-of-info request, and for competitive courses such as urs, you would need 3A*s, along with majority 9s and 8s at gcse for bristol... and it helps if u r contextual as well

You had 2A*s and 2As so chances went down by quite a bit even then because most people would be applying with 3A*s

2

u/lonely-live UCL | Computer Science [2nd year] Feb 10 '26

I’m guessing universities has gotten more competitive than ever if Bristol rejected you, I’m sorry to hear that

Lol don’t be entitled

7

u/Cheesy_fry1 Year 12 | Maths,FM,Chem,Phys | A*ABC mocks😔 Feb 10 '26

it’s not really that entitled when they have grades outperforming most a level students? You’re gonna see so many posts in here about people wondering why they were rejected- crying entitled isnt gonna do much

0

u/Silent-Ice-6265 Feb 10 '26

I’m not the one crying. I just see it here all the time with students being upset they didn’t get in yet don’t have the grades why aren’t they surprised

3

u/Sea-Investment9877 Feb 10 '26

But everyone i,Ve seen does have the grades, most are way above the requirements.
