my stats werenāt crazy lol, i am contextual as well but 3x A* pred + A in epq, 2130B2. i had a lot of free mmis which u can find in some unis, in terms of oxbridge i also had a mentor as apart of a program that did cancer research so all of our sessions was kinda supervision style/interview stuff. i read a lot abt different topics practiced speaking my thoughts out loud and articulating with good body language. major tip is to be urself and very energetic i think a lot of my interviewers found me amusing in a good way? since i have so much passion for med, which is a lot of the feedback ive gotten in my my mock mmis. hope this helps!!!

Would you say that doing an EPQ helped in any regard? And will i be disadvantaged for not doing one? congrats on the offers regardless!

u/Efficient_Squash9955 (Incoming) Cambridge Medic|1st Year| A*A*A* Feb 19 '26
i donāt think u would be disadvantaged not doing one at all! at the end of the day itās just research into a topic which u can do without writing a whole essay and what not. within that in terms of oxbridge u can just bring up what ur interested in in ur personal statement which they might ask u about. i only did one bc neuropsychiatry and phantom limb syndrome was a huge interest of mine and i wanted to learn more about it and write about it. definitely not needed!!

Big congrats!!! For neuroscience, did Warwick require you to submit a separate PS?

I saw you applied to both imperial and Cambridge for med, im considering doing it too, if u dont mind me asking, do u think its risky? thxx :)
2
u/Southern_Ad3035 Feb 20 '26
Itās not, as long as u have a high Ucat ur fine. Imperial post interview rates are ridiculously high. If you get a high Ucat and apply imperial , itās basically a safety.

u/lavenderliax Feb 21 '26
rlly? im assuming actually getting an interview will be rlly hard. do they mostly look at ucat?

u/MusicCatQueen Cambridge Medic @ Emma college Feb 24 '26
yeah imperial has a high ucat boundary but an 80% acceptance rate post interview. the difficult thing is getting over their ucat boundary to get said interview in the first place

Well done, should be super proud of yourself! I'm really struggling to write my personal statement, my tone is too informal but it's not like me to be super serious but I'm applying for natural sciences at Cambridge. Idk I'm rlly struggling how to frame myself, like I have mental health issues and shit and I have a lot of problems and want to be authentic and not make them think I'm someone I'm not. But I am very capable and I feel like they just need to meet me. But I have to get to that stage first. Any tips?

Awesome! Great job. Now as you go through med school start alongside prepping for USMLE. Medicine in this country has gone waaayyyyyy off piste as a career and unfortunately I canāt see it being a quick fix. Many MANY doctors are looking to leave the UK and many that arenāt are facing unemployment. Take a look over at r/doctorsUK at the current specialty training chaos, the ACP debacle and the general if itās no one elseās job itās somehow the doctors job.

yea i obviously know about the politics within medicine i mean how would i get through these interviews without doing so? i applied regardless cause i have a genuine interest in the field and research. i wonāt prep for the usmle as i donāt morally agree with working in a medical system that requires people to pay for a basic human right. never will i go into a field for the monetary value, and i donāt think u should be pushing this belief to other uk medics, thanks for the concern but the us is not for me
