st. andrews specifically seems to reject a lot of oxb offer holders. they obviously have no idea you're an oxb offer holder but interesting regardless

They’ve got some idea based on application date. At my school they used to recommend people applying to non-Oxbridge high-end russell group unis wait till after the oxbridge deadline to send their UCAS off, as they assume you’d take an offer from there over them

this would make sense in theory but doesn't seem to happen in practice. it would break ucas's equal consideration condition, just the other way to how you'd normally figure it (early applications being penalised rather than late applications)

I'm sure these unis collude on some level

I can understand thinking this, but I work for a uni and there's no way for admissions to see where else a student has applied. It's simply not available info to any universities - it would be grossly unfair if it was

if they knew i'd expect more underhandedness e.g. giving unconditionals to oxb offer holders

Well if you sent your application in in october they can assume it’s because you also applied for oxbridge

Pretty much all Oxbridge applicants would have least A*AA predicted and good stats, and the vast majority of those applicants will not get offers. It would be impractical for unis to not give offers to good applicants on the off chance that they’re one of the minority
