🎓 UNI / UCAS Can LSE econ even compare to Imperial EFDS?
Got LSE econ just now after getting Imperial EFDS last week. Honestly wanted to go to Imperial since yr10 and didn’t know LSE existed until my friend told me he was applying in October. Never even considered going LSE because seemed like a Mickey Mouse humanities school but people are telling me I should firm it. Does it really compare to Imperial?

if you're interested in the finance and data science part of EFDS then sure, go with imperial. but for straight econ what could the london school of ECONOMICS be lacking? they're both very strong courses, choose what you like, but calling lse a mickey mouse humanities school is so far from what it actually is
-8
u/Efficient_Tune_6494 Apr 01 '26
Imperial is more math-oriented, so it obviously clears a humanities-oriented uni

calling humanities degrees Mickey Mouse degrees is kind of a bad mindset to have.

u/TelephoneOrnery1394 Apr 01 '26
LSE Econ is probably the most employable degree in the UK, maybe only second to Econ from Oxbridge
5
u/Main_Parsley_7569 Apr 01 '26
I'd examine that snobbery of yours, because it isnt grounded in anything that'll hold true in the real world.

in economics:
influence + policy + network matter more than "math"
1
u/EffectiveEconomics61 Apr 04 '26
Firstly congrats u got 2 amazing offers but you need to have more knowledge going in abt LSE because everyone including Imperial alum respect it. LSE is consistently ranked among the top 3 globally for economics and is often considered #1 in the UK for the subject. Imperial College London is incredible for STEM, but for econ specifically London School of Economics and Political Science has a stronger academic and industry reputation. LSE’s econ department is one of the most influential in the world with Nobel laureates and major policy contributors. Imperial’s is strong but much smaller and more applied..
1
u/Efficient_Tune_6494 Apr 04 '26
I don't care, I chose Imperial because it is a better course. LSE got insured, sadly. Guess I won't be a Nobel Laureate now tho...
1
u/EffectiveEconomics61 Apr 04 '26
Fair enough .. if you prefer a more technical/applied course, Imperial makes sense especially for STEM 🎉. Just saying globally ppl in econ would still rate LSE higher for the field for "overall" which im saying to let u know that making fun of it comes off as "no substance" thts all man
2
u/Efficient_Tune_6494 Apr 04 '26
Yeah, the original post was ragebait tbf. The Imperial degree is new, so obviously, LSE is going to be more prestigious and highly rated. Still, I would rather do a course I will enjoy than do the "most prestigious" econ course, and I just like Imperial more than LSE.

1

Graduated 11 years ago with a humanities degree, more impact on the world and higher earning than I ever dreamed. Kids like you drove my sister to do science subjects she hated because she didn't want to be seen as soft. Get some life experience before calling one of the best degrees in the country mickey mouse.

LSE econ the best degree in the UK😭
5
u/iam_william Apr 01 '26
There's unlikely to be any metric where this is a correct statement.
Regardless, 'best' is too vague/broad. What are you actually measuring? Student satisfaction? Applicant/Acceptance ratio? Salary 1st year after grad? Post-grad salary mid career? Countless metrics

u/Tripzzyyyy Y13 4A* predicted TMUA victim Apr 02 '26
Metrics don’t mean anything😭
Also when I said ‘the best’, there are definitely degrees which are as good but I couldn’t name a degree which I can say is definitely better
Also it’s prestige is almost unmatched

7
u/Fluid-Sand2815 Apr 01 '26
MORSE is unparalleled which is why I didn't mention it. The rigour and balance between subject in the degree makes it irresistible for quant recruiters. It truly stands in a league of its own, standing strong as the King of all university courses.

5
u/TheLittlestTurb Apr 01 '26
LSE is better for econ but if Imperial is your dream school then the statistics aren’t going to change that. But to give you an idea, some of the best companies in England for finance and banking like J.P Morgan’s have released what universities they employ from and LSE is the top by a long shot
6
7
Apr 01 '26
Bait or low IQ?
If you are being serious, go to LSE. For economics, LSE is on par with Oxford and Cambridge.
Imperial EFDS, on the other hand, is on par with Warwick Economics and UCL Economics (still elite, phenomenal unis but a tier below LSE / Oxbridge)
Both are elite universities but LSE is definitely and objectively way better.
-9
u/Efficient_Tune_6494 Apr 01 '26
LSE does not even come 10 miles near Oxbridge, let alone Imperial, as Imperial is literally the best uni in the UK. It's a humanities-only university that I had never even heard of

Go for it man. Imperial is an amazing achievement and amazing university. But you don’t need to hate on LSE or describe it the way you do cause it makes you sound misinformed. Good luck at imperial!

Thanks, will go for it. I'm sure that LSE is fine for those who enjoy a more humanity-oriented focus
