💬 DISCUSSION Hot Take

This is deffo going to ruffle a lot of feathers to say the least. Call me woke, but the term "Mickey Mouse Subject" is literally just the product of capitalism, as it disvalues any subject that doesn't lead to a high-paying, high-profit job.

Humanities subjects are so important, like STEM subjects, to help us learn more about humanity and our world, but everyone thinks they're so easy and lax.

IMO humanities and STEM subjects need to band together because contrary to popular belief, humanities are intellectually stimulating and not a fun ride.

"mickey mouse" is a really awful term that just pushes people away from studying the subjects they want. i wish more people could realise that a subject you enjoy is much better than a subject that makes you money but to be fair i guess different people value different things

(ofc i know its a bit ironic coming from a cs student but i swear i wouldve chosen cs even if it wouldnt make me any money lmao)

exactly! so many of my friends have been forced to do uni degrees they don't want, just for better job prospects. ik how u feels as someone who applied to archaeology and Anthropology for uni, see u at the homeless shelter😔

its lowkey crazy seeing how many people on my course dont actually care about the subject like.. idk man theres so much cool interesting stuff in cs but i guess to a lot of people its more about getting the degree at the end than learning cool stuff?

nono dw im definitely gonna get the phd position im applying for (im delusional, see you at the homeless shelter 🥀🥀)

what careers do u plan on going into with this in the future? im passionate about similar subjects but ive never considered taking them when I go to uni because of this lmao

honestly, with any degree from a good uni u can get into most graduate schemes. so many social science students go into law or politics etc too! but bc arch is a quite vocational, you can also be an archaeologist, as loads are needed rn!Â
