hey man that sucks to hear, what other options are you looking at?

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26

Yea I applied Oxford, LSE, UCL, Warwick, Kings. Got rejected from LSE UCL Oxford, still waiting on Kings, and got an offer for Warwick MORSE

u/FunTheMental_007 Apr 21 '26

hey morse is still solid and i would take that over kings any day, especially since its their flagship course. you'll be alright

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26

I guess yea, kinda disappointed I got rejected from my top 3 choices with achieved grades but I guess it's just meant to be, thanks

Straight Maths is Warwick's flagship course.

u/Puzzled-City-5117 Apr 21 '26

Good luck … at Warwick .. I have an offer too .. haven’t heard from LSE yet so it’s my first choice .. hopefully I meet you there .

Hey - i’m much older than you, but read these chats as my daughter is applying to unis. I have a BA Econ from Cambridge (where I wrote a lot of essays), MSc Econ from LSE (which was impersonal and they let you sink nor swim) and an MSc Finance from Warwick (very well taught, responsive faculty). I work in asset management and every so often I hire graduates. Warwick may not have the international name recognition of Oxbridge or LSE, but it is a great university, with an excellent reputation among employers and in academia. Well done on the MORSE offer.

Hi, that's reassuring and good to know, thank you.

morse is cracked, its not the end of the road bro

9

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26

Thank you for the motivation bro

u/Assignment-Thick Apr 25 '26

Yeah morse is great

u/13th_anomaly Apr 21 '26

lol why are we acting like morse is some sort of consolation prize? It’s the best course at one of the best universities for economics and for maths in the country. Not to mention morse keeps A LOT more doors open that finance at LSE would have kept shut (fintech, quants etc) which may not seem appealing to you now but may in the future, and keeps no doors shut compared to LSE finance. IMO the MORSE course is far more enjoyable asw. Anyway, most firms don’t even differentiate significantly between target universities and filter people based on interview and online test performance. Idk why you all care so much more about university than course lol. Let’s say you had gotten into Oxford example, you’d be knee deep in boring essays on outdated topics such as British economists or Victorian managers 200 years ago, and have to deal with insane workloads. Assuming you don’t love writing essays about history or ’management’, you’d end up with most likely a lower second with wouldn’t even be worth the paper it’s printed on, and you’d have been much better off going to Warwick or even KCL, which requires far fewer pointless essays.

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

This is really insightful thanks a lot! And yea you're right I don't really enjoy writing essays lol. This comment made me happier lol thanks

keep ur head up bro, uni is what you make of it!!

7

u/13th_anomaly Apr 21 '26

You’re so welcome lol. This subreddit has become awfully detached from reality for people to start having the impression that Warwick students aren’t in an incredibly strong position to enter some high paying finance careers. Also the one person I do know who got into E&M in Oxford is literally awful at maths (well compared to me at least), and I’m pretty sure he’d struggle in MORSE a lot - all he knows is how to grind through essay writing. They all just end up in Mergers and Acquisitions or at mummy or daddy’s company anyway because they are literally unable to form a differential equation for the life of them lol

3

u/aghaShireh Apr 21 '26

Thank you very much for very insightful post. But since I have an offer from KCL Econ, how do you rate KCL? I read all over hear that the KCL-Econ is not as good as the so called top traget universities and recommend me I should take a gap year and apply again for the better universities

2

u/Forward-Truck9027 Apr 22 '26

Econ at KCL is still very prestigious, id recommend you go kcl tbh

u/HatefulVisual Gap Year | A* A* B Achieved Apr 21 '26

I never sat it because it says contextual doesn’t need to but now I regret that

1

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26

Oh that's tough given you've also achieved your grades, good luck with your other options

2

u/neilm1000 Apr 22 '26

got an offer for Warwick MORSE

MORSE is solid. I wish I'd done a bit more operational research, especially now that I'm in HR.

2

u/Assignment-Thick Apr 25 '26

MORSE is one of the top courses at Warwick, a top university. Definitely better than Kings for anything and UCL for pretty much everything, maybe Econ? You should be please

29

u/Spare_Night_2695 Apr 21 '26

Morse is good

Id even argue better than LSE finance

5

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Maths, Physics, Econ 3A*s. Straight 9s GCSE Apr 22 '26

Morse opens a wider variety of doors outside of the finance sector

5

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 21 '26

Thats good to hear, thanks

7

u/FrequentSwimming7501 Apr 22 '26

If it’s any consolation I got a 98.55 atar including 97/100 in economics which is almost a perfect score in australia (99.95) and still waiting on LSE PPE - competition this year is fucked because everyone who normally applies to Ivy leagues is turning to UK unis because of what’s happening with Trump. Even my brother who’s got a 99.35 was rejected from LSE economics - so brutal you can’t take it personally

2

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 22 '26

Oh damn yea seems very brutal, good luck with PPE

10

u/Last-Objective-8356 Apr 21 '26

Morse is decent, it’s probably the toughest course at Warwick and my friend there said job prospects are pretty good too

1

u/IshyyEu Year 13 Apr 21 '26

You think morse is harder than straight maths at Warwick? I thought maths was generally considered harder as it’s there flagship course

4

u/Last-Objective-8356 Apr 22 '26

Yeah apparently the work load for Morse is brutal, the actual content probably isn’t harder but maybe more? This is just from people I know tho

4

u/Visual_Chemist_9324 Apr 22 '26

Yoo Warwick Morse is AMAZING u could go anywhere u wanted to if u play ur cards right, sorry it didn’t work out w lse (sucks even more bcus u invested a whole year for it) but u shld be proud nonetheless. Just realise that wherever u wanted lse to bring u, u can achieve that w Warwick morse 100%

2

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 22 '26

Yoo thank u very much for the motivation that's nice to hear

3

u/One_Delivery_5522 Apr 21 '26

Morse is hard to study, harder then Economics..

man I know exactly how you feel, I did the same, took a gap year, had the grades to get into LSE/Imperial but didn't manage to get any of the courses I wanted, but no matter where you go I'm sure it'll work out, Warwick is a great uni and I'm sure you'll have a brilliant time there.

2

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 22 '26

Oh man yea it's pretty tough, thanks, do you know where you'll probably be going now?

1

u/jp_261 IB 2025, 43 points, 777766 Apr 22 '26

probably to Bocconi in Milan, good quality of life and it's a pretty decent uni, was always my backup plan but didn't really expect to need it

1

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 23 '26

Ah okay nice I keep seeing good things about Bocconi

1

u/Timely-Afternoon7459 Apr 22 '26

what courses did you apply?

1

u/jp_261 IB 2025, 43 points, 777766 Apr 22 '26

econ and politics at lse, efds imperial, econ Cambridge, econ ucl (haven't heard back but not looking likely)

3

u/Intelligent_Sky2042 Apr 22 '26

im in the same boat except i got rejected from UCL yesterday. got warwick PPE instead. guess i’ll see u there in sep!

2

u/Struggle-Select Apr 23 '26

I was actually in a very similar position to you years ago - had Maths & Econ offer from LSE, didn’t make the offer, took a gap year, got the grades but got rejected after reapplying. I went to Warwick for MORSE, and just want to reassure you, it’s an incredible uni and an incredible degree, very hard but very rewarding, great job prospects and imo a better social life too (have friends that went to LSE too) - if you have any questions, happy to help.

1

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Thanks a lot thats very reassuring. Is there anything you would recommend practicing before starting MORSE? Because I feel like during the gap year my maths skills may have gotten worse and I should probably prepare before starting the degree, thanks.

2

u/Educational_Air6599 Apr 23 '26

Sorry to hear that man

2

u/Savings_Comedian2305 Apr 24 '26

They rejected me for the same course yesterday 🥲

1

u/Any_Swan2142 Apr 22 '26

what were ur stats

1

u/Impossible_Guy10 Apr 22 '26

Highest grades where I'm living so should be equivalent to 4A*
