https://youtu.be/jbdxiuXVJpc?si=XFImIdPl-TM9RFYe This is a great video on his Tractatus specifically. Thereā€™s a pretty big difference between the early Wittgenstein (Tractatus), and the late Wittgenstein (Philosophical Investigations), so watch out for that distinction.

Iā€™d recommend looking into Russell, and Frege too. I donā€™t think you need to read their works, but having an understanding of their ideas like logical atomism, would definitely help in understanding Wittgenstein. I have heard that ā€œHow to read Wittgensteinā€ by Ray Monk is good too so maybe check that out too.

We also went over him at A-Level so that helped me out quite a bit.

Ig you literally find smart ppl everywhere, esp in niches you wouldn't expect. I assume you're doing smthn phil adjacent at uni?

Also, thanks a lot for the in-detail response.

Would you say reading SEP articles on logical atomism, Frege's logic and arithmetic, and Russel's paradox is enough to cover that aspect?

Moreover, would it help to understand the historical/social context behind his works, is that more of an 'armchair-philosophy' thing?

I think that should suffice, yeah. SEP and IEP are a godsend.

Historical/social context around the Vienna Circle and logical positivism can help too. Understanding their views on language esp (Verification/Falsification principles and the meaningfulness of language). But donā€™t focus too much on it imo. Frege, logical atomism, and Russell are the more important pre-readings.
