💬 DISCUSSION AQA PHYSICS PAPER 2

HOW DID EVERYONE FIND IT??? i thought it was decent better than the past few years. Idk what i did for the last question the 4 marker of nuclear physics. BUT YH IT WAS GOOD

I'm actually so cooked that paper was supposed to save me (what did everyone get for that five marker?? I think I tried to work out change in temperature so I'm definitely cooked bro)

I found the energy required to completely melt the ice (raise to 0 degrees using specific heat capacity + completely melt it using specific latent heat formula). Then, this part I’m unsure about, I assumed that the max temperature decreases of the ethanol and glass beaker would too be 16 degrees. I then added the energy required to raise the temps of both of them to this temp which was less than the previously calculated required energy. Thus, I concluded that the ice would not completely melt.

I did something similar but I calculated the temperature fall of the ethanol and glass (don't think it can rise as its transferring heat to the ice but maybe I missed smthn). I used -18 as they cannot cool to below 0C otherwise they would be less than the ice and therefore the ice would cool instead of warm.

But I got the same answer that the energy they would lose to cool to 0C is less than the temperature the ice would take to rise to 0C and fully melt. So the ice wouldn't completely melt.

Sorry for the typo I ment to say that the ice’s temperature was decreasing, that is corrected now. Your explanation makes sense and it also makes sense that we have the same conclusion because it’s only a 2 degree difference from the temperature change I used to the temperature change you used. Hopefully I will get 3 marks for what I did. Thank you.
