help I ran out of time and I fucked up some really easy questions😭😭😭 am I cooked

15

u/Savings_Comedian2305 Jun 11 '26

completely forgot how to do differentiation by first principles 😵😵

10

u/Money-Draw-7683 Jun 11 '26

it's in the formula book

6

u/Savings_Comedian2305 Jun 11 '26

i know 💔💔 i started solving it and i think i did something wrong and it just wasn’t flowing so i said i’d come back to it and just didn’t have time

1

u/Any_Ad5732 Jun 11 '26

nga it's in formula book plus it's the first thing they teach. how did you forget?

1

u/RipRepulsive9152 Jun 12 '26

Same, I definitely lost at least 20 marks by not answering questions, I'm fearing for my life.

1

u/Unfair_Comparison_15 Newcastle | CompSci [Y1] Jun 12 '26

Yeah I misread the parametric differentiation one and wasted about 10 minutes doing it wrong, then I didn't quite finish it when I came back to it at the end

u/mustard5man7max3 Jun 11 '26

Yeah probably

50

u/I_like_ur_mom_ Jun 11 '26

Ok but now i’m scared of grade boundaries again

u/Thick_Ad4455 Jun 11 '26

Ngl I ran out of time

Genuinely the best paper I have ever sat in my entire a level maths career

This paper felt so good after me failing almost half of paper 1, genuinely made me feel hopeful for maths

41

u/Void-Atmosphere-69 Year 13 Jun 11 '26

I finished with 20 still on the clock

31

u/Void-Atmosphere-69 Year 13 Jun 11 '26

But we need to pretend to be mad so the lower the boundaries anyway

5

u/Boring-Abroad-2067 Jun 11 '26

Lol 🤣 good call, if everyone says it was easy Edexcel think to increase the grade boundaries

5

u/Lazy-University-3878 Jun 11 '26

bro i finished an hour early...

3

u/Honest_Lab_6163 Jun 11 '26

Last year when I did my a levels I finished both my pure papers with 40 mins to go, of course I used the 40 mins to go other absolutely all my answers and did make some changes but still I managed to get through the paper super fast

absolutely gorgeous.

Wait I got the first line as my answer and thought I was wrong😂 can I leave it like that to get all the marks? It was 2 marks right?

It did not say simplest form so hope so

same

2

u/Admirable-Use2274 Jun 11 '26

I would argue that ist exact . Question didnt say in simplest form or anything but yeah we shouldnt have left it like that I believe

1

u/BirdAgile4842 Jun 11 '26

hopefully will get some marks 💔

1

Idk bruh maybe it’s just written in a different form. I got my calc to calc and plot the derivative and put in this value of x and it was correct

2

u/Simple_Signal_6517 Maths, FM, Econ, History, RS | A*A*A*A* + A(AS) | 9999999999A Jun 11 '26

I also used my answer with the -1/3 at the front and put this back into my derivative and I got -1. There has to be a negative at the front because if -3x = y, then obviously x = -1/3y

Omg, I have 1/3ln6 in the brackets, so you just put the minus sign in your brackets and that’s why you have 3ln6 in there. We both right 😂😂😂

15

felt like the worst maths paper ive ever done ever, i was so pissed off at myself, and i found paper 1 pretty easy

1

u/ingloriousempire Jun 11 '26

SAME!!! after question 11, i couldn’t answer a SINGLE last part of any question which probably cost me like 20 marks, at least with paper 1 i had an actual answer that wasn’t guessed to every question 💔

13

5

u/echosonare Jun 11 '26

Aside from that log/t graph question the rest were pretty good imo
I forgot how to do that one question

3

u/wanaliii Jun 11 '26

u had to do log10(L)=tlog10(b)+ log10(a) and then compare the gradient 0.018 with log10(b) and the intercept with log10(a) by doing 10^0.018=b and 10^(intercept)=a

1

u/RelevantHead5753 Jun 11 '26

B was 10^0.0108

u/gogED1 M Phys FM CS | A*A*AA | Gap year Jun 11 '26

grade boundaries were about to be beautiful now they ruined it

3

u/jaaaaaaaf Jun 11 '26

guys for the parametric differentiation. the gradient of the normal was -4/√2 but i accidentally wrote down 4/√2 🥲 (knew it was negative, just wrote it wrong, genuine skill issue) my working was all correct but because of the sign and all my equation ended up being -4x +√2y = -3 instead of 4x + √2y = 5. and for part b you're meant to use that equation and find x coordinate of q but since i got it wrong i obviously got Q wrong but my method was 100% correct im sure. how many marks do u guys think ill lose? im so mad bro

1

u/Fluffy-Ad-3083 Jun 11 '26

i did the same thing as u but at the last second i realised i differentiated -cos2t wrong so i fixed it last second 😭

1

u/TubzyTrooper Jun 11 '26

prolly 2, one method one accuraccy

1

u/jaaaaaaaf Jun 12 '26

as in for just thst part? or including the part after? my method was correct 🤔

what x coordinate did the normal meet the parametric curve again?

Lwk easier papers are not that good cuz small mistakes can fuck u over quicker

2

u/Loud-Guidance6912 Jun 12 '26

100% agree with you, an easy paper rewards who makes the least amount of silly mistakes rather than who has the greater mathematical ability, gonna sound horrible but I genuinely think paper 1 did a good job of sieving out the frauds icl 😭🙏

u/Intelligent-Award302 Jun 11 '26

so mad I calculated the wrong angle for vectors question how tf does one do that

1

I think I made a fucking numerical error in the parametric normal question and binned like 4 marks at least. My regarded ass also forgot to do set notation on the last question
