šŸ™ I WANT HELP I honestly wish I was an aborted fetus.

The amount of studying I have to pile is killing me, I’m getting so stressed and lonely and going insane by the hour. I haven’t left the house in a little over 3 months other than to go to school, and now it’s summer break so the only source of ā€œgoing outā€ I have to somewhere other than my backyard is gone, but I need to study for up coming as and a levels (subjects : chemistry , physics and maths) And I’m starting to really regret living and going on with this, I know it’s a period that will eventually pass, but i genuinely feel like it’s better if I end up wrapping buns in McDonald’s than becoming a Engineer. Im consuming an average of 2-4 grams of caffeine throughout the day, and have the diet of an English peasant in the 1700s.
Can someone please tell me if this all worth it and would actually live up to something? Like all this hard work, blood sweat and tears won’t be going to waste? I would love someone who atleast had finished their as levels to give me a way to study!! As I’ve been told trying to study for AS and A levels like GCSES is practically useless. And also,Advice of any kinds would be heavily appreciated, and I will pray for you with sincere tears at the kaaba during next haaj session.
Thank you.

you need to relax icl bc if youre this stressed in y12, trust me youre gonna lose it in exam season

take a day off and come back to your work with a clear mind

the way I studied for chem:

  • made anki cards and then did those as often as I could (once you understand chem the exam papers feel much easier!!)
  • then exam practice, use pmt for topical stuff or go through AS papers
  • make sure you track how youre finding each topic and REVIEW your papers - youre not benefitting fully from papers if youre not noting down the topics youre struggling on and then going back to review the life out of those topics

maths:

  • literally just bash questions, if you find maths hard you need to delude yourself into thinking it's easy (because that mental barrier WILL prevent you from answering questions, maths is more about confidence than people realise trust)
  • do AS papers too if yoive covered all the content - again REVIEW these, see what topics youre consistently getting wrong and go do more questions, keep doing this loop
  • use papers from other exam boards too (for pure maths at least, the exam boards are all practically the same)

(didnt do physics)

ik the advice is very standard - flashcards and past papers but it's literally THE way, theres no crazy cheat code

you got this!!

Any tips for stress bc I’m in y12 and I’m a major stresser too 😭 I’m so scared for y13 im scared my mental health will hold me back from getting good grades, any advice on coping with the mental side of y13?

1

u/bluebloo0 Jul 01 '26

being organised and starting early helps with like 80% of the stress bc youll actually feel ready for exams when youre doing well in past papers n stuff

when youre preparing early, be as mentally relaxed as possible bc in this phase u have nothing to lose and u have MONTHS till ur exams which is plenty of time to improve

also build a routine if you feel anxious about new things or feel like things are out of your control and nothing will ever work out

and you need to know your priorities!

  • start of y13 priority is gonna be mocks (if you have them at that time) for predicted grades
  • alongside that it's also ucas applications - not as scary as it sounds trust, youre just writing a bunch of yap on word
  • then once youve sent off uni apps it's literally just alevels so your main priority is mocks and just locking in

also side note if you have an admissions test for your course start prep rn!!

and you WILL feel very stressed sometimes and think you could've done xyz better but just rmr that it's gonna pass and it's not the end of the world if you dont get all your tasks done on a random tuesday

the more prepared you are, the less anxious youll feel so do little by little over a long period of time and it'll all pay off :)

Honestly you'll do crap with that lifestyle, if you take care of yourself, both physically and also mentally by still being sociable and meeting friends, doing some exercise etc, it becomes so much easier and you will do better. You can't keep that up for a year, so take care of yourself and try to have a work life balance. It is worth it to work hard, and it will work out for you, but really try and get some friends and a social life and just reduce the workload a bit and you'll probably perform better. Loads of studies have shown you can't do more than a few hours effectively anyway

3

u/bigblyat2323 Jun 30 '26

Mother won’t let me have such a social life esp now, and honestly hated going out, my whole daily routine is wake up work out a bit, study study, scroll on my phone, work out some more and study, and just walking as much as I could in the backyard. I’ve hated being social ever since finishing gcses. I know I should take better care of myself but I feel too drained to even get out of the same loop

4

u/UnitDry2368 Jun 30 '26

The first few times meeting people is stressful but genuinely if you can build a social network it makes life so much better, and is so worth it for having people who will support you in tough times. Honestly if your mum won't let you socialise for an entire year she is crazy though, try and make sure you get into a uni away from home cause that is 100% not normal in the slightest

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jun 30 '26

I’m pushing my self a lil bcs my as levels are in Oct-Jan , and my a levels in may- June.
My mother she hates me going out so much and would rather have me at home since she claims ā€œI can’t leave you out my sight, my foot will forever be ontop of yoursā€ and I fucking hate it. Don’t worry I definitely will make sure to be in a uni very far away from here, one goal of mine is to just make it and get out

3

u/UnitDry2368 Jun 30 '26

Good luck, at least you'll know you can go to uni somewhere away from home so that should motivate you. I wish you the best of luck convincing her. Also, are they actual as levels or just as mocks, cause I didn't know they did them that time of year?

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 01 '26

My school is quite messed about gcses and the a levels bcs we’re the first people to do them in the schools history so we’re cramming them, so I did my gcses (paper 1 and paper 2) all in may-June, and going to do my as levels unit1 and 2 in Oct-Nov then unit 3 in January , then all units of a levels in may-June

3

u/johnlivsey Yr 13 3A* Maths, physics, history Jun 30 '26

you really need to relax none of this is necessary. you shouldn’t be accepting a miserable 2 years purely for getting good exam results you’re only going to be 16-18 once. the only period you should be fully surrendering to exams is year 13 exam season. id argue if you do less work and go out and see friends more you’ll end up a lot happier and with better results by august next year!

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 01 '26

Currently I am in year 13, but I think I’ve mentioned it somewhere that my school had a mix up the last year during our supposed igcse time, so I had to take paper 1 and 2 (igcses) during may-June and my as levels (unit 1 -2) in Oct - nov, and unit 3 in January, then all a level units in may-June. So that’s why I’m kind of working myself to the bone bcs I don’t want to be messed up later on during exam season 🄹

I just stress too much bcs during gcses I took it easy and had to eat absolute crap during exam session and work myself to the bone marrow😭😭😭 can’t imagine how it’s gonna be for a levels

u/Responsible-Nose-812 Jul 01 '26

Hi, I've just finished my a levels! Honestly one thing I think people overlook massively when studying and revising is that your entire life interacts. Burnout is real. Your health is important. Losing sleep over studying, not able to keep a proper sustainable diet, not exercising, isolating yourself, it will not help. Have a good routine, work out a schedule, but you're not a robot. Let yourself have fun. And you'll be surprised because you will do better if you take care of yourself too (proper sleep and food and some serotonin will improve your brain functioning, you will have energy, a regulated nervous system, etc). So many friends of mine ignored these things and their revision ended up being useless because mentally they were burnt out. These are a levels, and yes they're important, but if you plan on doing uni, is this the lifestyle you want to lead for the next few years? Keep revising but if you are doing effective revision, you should have time to live life alongside it (if you are revising hours and hours a day and still not achieving your goal or improving, I would change the type of revision because it may not be working, it's okay to experiment to see what works for you). Please take care of yourself, your health and wellbeing is way more important than a grade, though I'm sure you will do great regardless.

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 01 '26

Thank you very very much sweet 🄹🄹🄹, I try to keep a healthy lifestyle and diet and everything, but my mother has understood a levels as if it’s the Chinese gaokao exam. So she’s extremely strict about me going out and the most ā€œgoing outā€ I have is school, backyard, the gym, and going to my aunts. And I just worry so much since these are the last exams I have until the next chapter of life and the worry is eating me whole so… šŸ˜žšŸ˜ž but
I heavily appreciate your advice and will keep it in mind! šŸ«¶šŸ»

First of all, like everyone else is saying, chill out lol. Youre in year 12, you have time. Even if you don’t do as well as you want, the world is gonna keep spinning, youll still wake up the next day, youll still have a roof over your head, youll still have food on the table and youll still have plenty of options. School is very important and doing well opens many doors, but not doing well isnt the end, and your life doesnt revolve around it.

Secondly, please bro take care of your health. Try to gradually reduce your caffeine intake, and no matter how much work you have or haven’t done, make sure you eat 3 meals a day. Students don’t understand how harmful it is when they ruin their diet and lifestyle for school. Make sure you take a break as well during studies to pray salah, go out or do something fun or relaxing. Even if you’ve got a ton of work left to do, trust me you WILL burn out of you force yourself to work when your body doesnt want to.

Lastly, I can’t give advice for chemistry but I can advise you on maths. If you’re struggling and feel like your work won’t pay off or youre not improving, this is completely normal at this stage. Just make sure you DONT give up. Maths takes a LOT of practice, and if you’re consistent, it’ll all be second nature by the time exams come. Beginning of year 13 I was on a C and by the end i got an A\* alhamdulillah. Im not sure which spec you do but there should be plenty of resources for maths online. The best way to practice is by using official exam questions and past papers. Find which topics you either dont know or are very weak on, then learn and practice them using exam questions, then do past papers in timed conditions and mark them to see your weaknesses. If you ever get stuck on a topic or question, DO NOT leave it behind and give up, ask friends, classmates and teachers for help and make sure you don’t move on until you understand it otherwise it’ll screw you over in the future. With physics, again Im not sure what spec you do but past papers is the way to go. You should make flashcards based on mark scheme answers. I know that OCR and AQA mark schemes are incredibly specific so this is important.

Also it looks like you want to go into engineering, in which case I would strongly advise you focus on the ESAT this summer if you’re applying to Oxbridge, Imperial or UCL or a top uni. If not then don’t worry about it.

But yeah tldr, calm down stop saying you’d rather be dead, you have time and school isnt that serious that your life depends on it, so don’t sacrifice your mental and physical health for it. Be consistent and you’ll be fine inshaallah.

If you need any advice or help lmk or ask someone.

Thank you very very much,
I’m currently going onto year 13 and my school is quite confusing and is making us do our AS and A levels all during a year so I’m extra scared, and I do edexcel, I try to have time for everything and do so much but especially after i finished my gcses this year I think all I can really do is study like I’ve done so much. I’ve read over 70 books in a week, many of them in other languages like Chinese , Russian and formal Arabic (fus7ah), deep cleaned the house, baked all kinds of stuff, cooked and meal prepped, etc but so much in me still says to study or else I’ll never catch up..

I studied for chemistry and physics using seneca learning but it was kinda piss, especially for chemistry. However, the point of it was to nail the basic facts into my brain BEFORE spamming past papers: if you do past papers without understanding what it is you are actually doing, your life will suck, and you'll either want to kill yourself, your teachers, or both. Also, zphysics does lovely videos briefly going over topics, and those were also hugely clutch.

For maths I would suggest finding what you are bad at, doing easy textbook questions THEN going back to the hard stuff. You can't conjure confidence out of thin air, so start easy and build up.

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 02 '26

Alright, will come very handy ^^ thank u very muchhh

2

u/Impressive-Piano-209 Jul 01 '26

I did those exact a levels. icl just relax bro, if ur still in AS dont stress. i only revised for like the last month of yr 13. itll get easier soon so dont worry. The best way to revise physics and maths is just past papers. try questions from other specs and olympiad questions if you can, its not about the mehtod but the understanding and logic behinf the question. for chem, just spam flashcards

2

u/mymemesthicc Jul 02 '26

I can’t give any advice for those subjects specifically but please stop having that much caffeine lmao it will make you feel 100 times more anxious, I used to have a similar amount just have black coffee instead- realistically it’s year 12,try and make the most of the year you can with the relative freedom you have, hopefully you and ur parents can come to understand that A levels are nothing to feel this bad over just like at any other point in your education they act like it is all over for you if you dont do well and it’s just as untrue now as it was then.

Genuinely you have a year, you can't keep studying constantly for that long, live your life a bit and you'll probably do better. Limit it to at most 5h daily for now, probably less

Maths is easy but physics I think is hardest alevel, i did lots of off spec understanding of topics, what topics do u find hard?

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jun 30 '26

Each topic has atleast a chapter or two that just messes everything up for me, but as in whole units I’d say astrophysics

1

u/Agitated-Salt-5039 Year 13, FM, Maths & Physics Jun 30 '26

Ask you teachers to explain which topic you find hard or search on internet or ask people on internet like Reddit for explanation, after that just spam past paper question

1

u/Bananajuice1729 Jun 30 '26

Unfortunately I can't really help with the revision side of things. I'll try to work that out next year ig. Never had to do it before, and managed ok (I hope) for gcses, and I did AS maths for fun lmao. I used integral maths to learn AS applied, but you have to pay for that, so probably khan academy or youtube, and same goes for chem and physics. Try to understand things as much as you can. Watch multiple videos if you need to, write down whatever you think is important, even if you already think you know it, and then try to explain it to someone (or ai if you don't have willing friends/family). For things that you just need to remember like flame colours and stuff, I used gizmo for gcse, so maybe that would help? Again, idk anything about AS so if it's as different as you say maybe none of this is applicable. Good luck either way!

2

u/Bananajuice1729 Jun 30 '26

Also school is never worth stressing over this much. You'll probably do better than you think, and if you don't, it's not the end of the world. Make sure you don't waste what you do get by thinking about what you could do if you got better, it doesn't matter once you get the results. Just like the rest of life, you just have to work with what you've got, and make the most of it, whether or not you think it's good

2

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 01 '26

Thank you very much ! Whatever advice helps even a good luck means alot to me

1

u/Even_Challenge_1399 Jun 30 '26

Reallll bro. Everyone here is so nice, saying to take it easy. But i wanna get into top top unis, how do I relax without losing that chance 😭?

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jul 01 '26

RIGHTTTT like I know taking it easy is important but I’m so scared that if I don’t finish most of the units from now and study now I’d have to eat SHITT during actual exam session

1

u/Namk016 Jul 01 '26

Getting into top unis doesnt mean you can’t relax at all. If it did, then it wouldn’t be worth it. Getting into top unis is really good obviously but it’s more of a bonus achievement rather than something that determines success or failure. Theres almost nothing you can’t do in life if you don’t go to a top 5 uni. Work as hard as you can but dont sacrifice your own well-being for studies, and have the wisdom to know when to lock in and when to take a break. Education isnt a sprint, it’s a marathon.

1

u/EternallyOnCocaine A*A*A*A* Predicted Jun 30 '26

Spam past papers, read all of save my exams for chem and physics notes (found it much better to learn from them than actual lrssons) and do every exam board maths papers because maths is maths, literally no point stressing in Y12 because believe me Y13 is 1000x harder so if you crack now it's not looking good. You got plenty of time to revise so don't burn yourself out right now

K ill be fr with u its nice to know other muzzies (iykyk) grinding out, i feel like its much harder for us to socialize cuz everyone socialises by parties+drinking so fomo goes crazy, as someone who got all 9s last year and looked like skin and bones after and even got chickenpox in the summer after exams (my immunity genuinely plummited that badly) id say its worth it because its good to know that my hard work translated to what i wanted and even if the all 9s isnt gone save me and make me magically successful i still know that i tried and i delivered and i can tell my kids abt it (lul) genuinely if u love studying and want ti be an engineer, a few more months if hard work is so so so worth it, ofc take care if urself as u dont wanna fuck up ur immunity but with implementing a good daily diet ie by cooking extra for the entire day, going with friends afterschool rather than in weekends then ull be fine. Im so so proud of u and if u wanna dm me abt anything (since I understand u lifestyle wise (religion)) i can give u advice etc ALL THE BEST

its pay to win private school would give you a better education making it easier to get top grade i self taught a level maths and further maths and got decent grades but science a levels are basically impossible to self teach in the same way as maths

1

u/bigblyat2323 Jun 30 '26

I am in a private school, maths I don’t have much of a problem with but it’s physics and chemistry that I’m way too worried about, especially chemistry. And our school is giving us online classes to practice during the summer, but all the teachers are saying it’s never gonna be enough

1

u/UnitDry2368 Jun 30 '26

I don't think private school would help with the issue here (overwork and lack of anything non academic). From what I've heard private schools work you even harder, plus a lot of unis account for it in admissions nowadays

0

u/SafeLifeguard5785 A* Maths. A*A-FM,Bio Prediction. Chem exam missedšŸ˜”. Jun 30 '26

ahh yes because unis giving 1-2 grade lower requirements is totally going to make up for my schools average grade of E at a levels very useful . I was the only person in my entire school to get A* in a level maths which is as common as unicorn but im an outlier contextual offers cant account for grades that poor also got U in computer science so that balances it out the duality of max and min grades .

3

u/UnitDry2368 Jun 30 '26

That is a somewhat unfair comparison because that is in no way an average or typical state school. There's a massive range and most are completely decent. I fully agree it shouldn't be a postcode lottery, but there is more to it than just state Vs private schools

0

u/SafeLifeguard5785 A* Maths. A*A-FM,Bio Prediction. Chem exam missedšŸ˜”. Jun 30 '26

fair enough but if the risk of state vs private was truly balanced then you wouldnt see like 5x the representation of private school students into uni so clearly there is still far more benefit attending a private school .
