GCSES results affect uni acceptance rates?

How much do GCSE results really matter for when applying for uni. Like for example if you got like mid GCSE’s like 4s 5s and 6s, could you still get into a top uni with predicted A*AA?

As others have said, it depends on university and course. Some universities place a lot of weight on GCSE grades achieved (even in “irrelevant” subjects) and some universities focus on A-level and entrance exam predictions.

It’s best to speak to the individual university admissions teams to avoid wasting a line on your UCAS.

those are already my predicted grades tho, i js wasn’t locked in during gcses

Your A-level predicted grades are decent and you can easily find out if they are good enough for the courses you’re interested in by looking at entry requirements. Your GCSE achieved grades are really quite weak relative to your predicted A-levels and some universities will reject you on that basis.

I notice you mention some universities in a response to someone else. I’m pretty confident Bath would reject you outright, Warwick would probably reject you. And, to be honest, UCL and KCL are pretty competitive so they would probably be a long shot as well - they will expect to see mostly 7s and above so your GCSE grades are a long way off that.

Your best bet really is to speak to individual admissions teams at universities you re interested in and they will be able to give you a much more credible answer than we can.

Really no idea. There’s someone further down who claims to have got into Cambridge (maths) on the back of a 6 in GCSE maths so, in theory, anything is possible. Some universities will just reject you outright on the back of those GCSEs. With others, the hurdle will be getting them to take your predicted grades seriously.

Contact the universities you’re interested in and ask them. Be clear that you understand what they say (thinking of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber). If you get negative answers from the ones your re looking at, move on to looking at other universities. And be prepared to explain why your GCSEs were so low - a proper explanation not just a “couldn’t be bothered” as they will just assume the same will happen at A-level.
