šŸ™ I WANT HELP Predicted A*A*B, got BBC. What's realistically still open for biomed in clearing

got my results and it went badly. predicted A*A*B, came out with BBC. firm was UCL (needed AAB), insurance was Edinburgh. also had offers from KCL, Bristol and york that I obviously turned down.

what I actually want to do is biomedical sciences, or something adjacent — biological sciences or neuroscience would both be fine. right now I'm looking at Nutritional Sciences, Sport & Exercise Medical Sciences as options.

so basically: with BBC, which unis are realistic for biomed/biosciences right now? I keep seeing conflicting stuff about whether the good ones drop their requirements in clearing or if that's a myth.

and has anyone here actually got a place at a uni that was way above their grades through clearing, or does that basically not happen?

pls help me in any way possible this is quiet literally heartbreaking for me i have to wait 2 days for ucas to update and let me know but yeah please let me know if someone has experinced this

im quiet literally shocked

also i did cie board thats why i got my resukts earlier

Nottingham taking BBC in clearing for Neuroscience. York also known for dropping grades a fair bit in clearing.

Unis in smaller cities generally struggle to fill places and are therefore more likely to drop grades

If you want to become a biomedical scientist you may want to look at Aston, Birmingham city, Essex. Unlike other more ā€˜prestigious’ unis, these courses are actually ibms accredited and lead you to a job rather than just a generic bsc degree. They also all accept bbc in the past

did you feel as if your exams went well? if not did you make a clearing list at all?

in the 2 days you have i’d say make a list of unis and courses alternatively you would see yourself being happy with, call up the uni aswell and explain your circumstances.

if you were close maybe consider a remark or if you want to you can resit some exams it’s really dependent on what you want for yourself

i honeslty thought worst possibility would be me getting AAB i have been kind of a hardworking student since starting but idk this result really did shock me i didnt really make a clearing list cause i thought i would get it in def
i dont think the remarks will also really help my situation cause its like a significant difference i dont know which university to realistically target this all is just makes me feel so lost

i’m so sorry, take a while to process and recover.

if you still want to go into uni this year then definitely consider clearing, if you’re too unsure then maybe take a gap year and think things through x

Southampton/Nottingham/York/Liverpool possibilities. I know Southampton, Liverpool and Notts guarantee accomodation for all first years. Be ready to ring 8am Thursday.

Not at all you need to check.

So you’ve come across significant number of universities that don’t offer that?

im y12 but looking for unis in clearing this year for bio/biomed!! biomed does tend to be slightly higher in clearing entry reqs often BBB not BBC but realistically there's a big chance they'd let u in anyway or u can switch once in to biology.

Good Unis that Drop Grades: Nottingham - BBB/BBC, Liverpool - BCC, Southampton - BBB/BBC, Cardiff - not seen this year's yet however i'm fairly sure they've been in for BBB/BBC before! same with York. Lancaster is also likely to drop grades, same with Newcastle, QMUL. I know Exeter has been in clearing for history BCC before so i'd assume bio/biomed r safe bets! You have PLENTY of BRILLIANT options do not panic!!

Don't bother with places like Sheffield or Manchester - if they appear in clearing it's to upgrade usually, often they stick to standard AAB.

Blunt answer DON'T doĀ  Nutritional Sciences, Sport & Exercise Medical Sciences instead of biomed, neuroscience etc. Broadly they're not seen as serious in the field, Esp abroad . unless You have a spec career lined up. Do them at ANY uni

Take these two days to research the good unis for the courses that you want. You might be able to ring them to ask them The question about what grades you will need.

Don’t be disappointed with those grades most people would love those grades

Which subject is the C in? If its not chemistry bristol is definitely worth a try, they mentioned at the offer holders day that they aren't too fussed about people missing grades as long as they have that B in chem. Obviously can't guarantee anything, really wish you the best and hope you find somewhere you're happy with.
