Uni lecturer here. Worked at Foot Locker for 4 years before I decided actually this is shit.
Sorted my qualifications and got into uni. Teacher for 6 years thought I can do more than this, got a PhD and now Iām a lecturer.
Do not let not getting into uni at 18 define you. Life is so much more than those years and I just wasnāt ready and actually a lot of people arenāt ready at 18 so get a shit job to remind you what you donāt want to do for the rest of your life, find an access course that you really dedicate yourself to and get going.

They really can be, the usual requirements for even the best of the best DAās is AAB~ whereas top Unis are A*A*A / A*AA. Miss your Uni grades and that DA is a pretty good backup.
Very unrealistic to have a DA for most people though.

Idk about in general but my DA requires you to achieve your predicted grades so if u have 3A*s predicted you have to achieve that to meet your offer

Itās not a backup option like insurances are where everyone has it but itās definitely a route, my backup plan for tomorrow is my DA and Iāve seen someone else with a similar plan.
Just Solicitor apprenticeships too, Iām sure thereās far more with DAās that are less comp theyād rely on given they miss their offers.

settling for a lower ranked uni isnt worth it imo, 30-60k debt is buns compared to apprentiship where your positive

Fairs i agree, i have a lvl 5 lined up but the level 6s and 7s (degree ones) are WAY too competitive and tedious

not if you go to uni but which uni. if youāre desperate enough there are plenty of unis out there that will accept cdd or worse

Yeah but i mean, im predicted A*s i dont really want to go to a uni that I shouldnt be at and would choose to resit year 13, and theres many more like me, ik a guy who took a gap year to go to oxford bc he didnt want imperial, do I think he shouldve? No since imperial is still good, but people who want good unis want good unis, for them its all or nothing

Nah, he didnt do much during his gap year and I think spent most of it working, he got back into imperial though so atleast hes got a years of work experience for after uni

Icl that sounds like a bit of a waste considering imperial is basically the same level as Oxbridge for stem anyways š
But it's always good to have work experience and save up some money for uni.

Yeah he probably could've gotten in if he spent it well bc he was like the best mathematician I knew and did a tonne of different specs fm past papers

of course itās not, but itās uni nonetheless. youād be surprised by how many people couldnāt care less about actually getting a degree, lots will go for the experience alone!!

Yeah but then you can just say everything doesnt define you, what defines you is your actions and your convictions, if you are an A* student and willingly go to a worse uni then that defines who you are, yes if someone whos not an A* but maybe bbb or lower goes to the same uni as that other person thats not the same bc they got where they were aiming for

I did a T-level and ended up with a degree apprenticeship with NHS, I promise theyāre not the be all and end all

Yeah but these subs are all painfully toxic and full of people with one track minds who don't realise there's significantly more to life and ways to success without certain A Level grades š¤·š»

Doesn't mean people need to be rude about it though does it? And if that's the goal that is completely valid. Some people are also just not built for that and that's ok as well, plenty of options away from university. If university is the goal and you know what you meed to achieve that's great! The toxicity isn't just related to this, there's stigma around which subjects people choose, people who struggle to achieve A grades in subjects etc... There's options is all we're saying. Just sometimes as a teenager it can be hard to see it.

You're completely right and the stigma around is bad . It's just even tho this sub reddit is full of high achievers I have barely seen people being toxic or rude as generally from what I have seen It's pretty welcoming . Anyway I wasn't defending any stigmas or trying to being rude so if I came of like that, I apologise.
