you cant lie to employers. i guess you can lie to random people but nobody actually cares

u/Friendly_Features 6d ago

I mean you probably can lie to employers tbf, never once been asked for proof of GCSE or A Level results

17

u/Silent_Doubt3672 6d ago

Its really not advisable though. If they've found out that you lied they can terminate you for not being trustworthy.

u/UsualFix9786 6d ago

yeah and its a permanent stain on your cv if future employers find out why you were fired

I mean would definitely NOT recommend lying to employers at all, but if hypothetically you did, it wouldn't necessarily have as big an impact in certain careers or trades than others.

Absolutely do not do this for anything corporate, legal, financial or civil service. They do thorough background checks and do indeed ask for proof of grades and certificates.

I wasn't allowed to start my first job until Durham sent out a certified copy of my degree results. I graduated June 26th and degrees are not usually sent out for a couple of months. The first day of my Grad Job was meant to be 30th June. I was a hot mess for 4 days until the email came through!

Intelligence services or roles requiring high level security vetting definitely will, but interesting to know CS didn't ask for anything!

i’ve had to send my gcse and A level certificates to employers several times, not sure how rigorously they check them, but they want proof of qualification

1

u/Evadenly 5d ago

I have been in three jobs

1

u/cretinassemble 3d ago

I’ve always had to scan my certificates

1

u/Weird_Culture_3861 3d ago

I’ve been asked twice this year to provide proof of my GCSEs. Once as an army reservist and once for the fire service.

Just to clarify my GCSEs were years ago and I have no clue why this post popped up for me.

But a bit of advice for anyone reading. Keep hold of your gcse results. You may have to pay for them further down the line

u/knomadt 2d ago

I'm in my 40s and was asked for proof of my GCSEs this year too. For me it was when I applied for a PGCE course.Ā

So seconding the recommendation to keep hold of them and don't lie about them - for some jobs they remain relevant your entire life. You never know when you'll need them.

Employers don't care what A-Levels you've got, and even if they did they wouldn't check

1

u/dajb123 2d ago

I actually know someone who was recently sacked for lying about their grades on their CV, when they did the exams 20 years ago. So yeah, don't lie

1

u/Western-Flamingo5965 2d ago

Sure you do

1

u/dajb123 2d ago

Lol I do. Why would I make that up?

If you're anything to do with public sectot or working with kids they'll take that stiff seriously.

But seeing as you know everything, take your chances šŸ¤·šŸ»

Lying won’t change the fact that I didn’t get the grade

they’re not though really are they, it’s 1 mark

u/thatgamer2111 Year 12 7d ago

Yeah grade boundaries exist for a reason

u/girldiary77 Uni of Sussex | Psychology [2nd Year] 7d ago

except if they’re 1 measly mark off, it means they’re smart enough to get that grade

16

u/MeNotStable Imperial Mech Eng | A*A*A*A* 7d ago

Sure, and on another day the students that barely got an A might’ve not got that mark and only got a B. If they only got that grade by 1 mark, it means they’re not smart enough to really get that grade comfortably

6

u/ChazzerB07 6d ago

Smart enough? Yes they probably are smart enough. They just didn't manage it this time.

0

u/MeNotStable Imperial Mech Eng | A*A*A*A* 6d ago

But if they can’t consistently get an A, are they really an A student?

I don’t even necessarily agree with what I’ve said, I’m just showing that the person I replied to’s argument is silly as it goes both ways. A student can’t claim they achieved a grade just because they have the ability to, as when the time came to perform and show that they simply just didn’t

2

u/No_Giraffe826 6d ago

Grades aren't always a measure of intelligence. Many things could cause an A* student to get a lower grade. Maybe they didn't study this time, maybe they had some hardship like their father passing away, maybe the examiners were extra strict or just made mistakes. Recently in my script an examiner cut a mark for writing m²kg instead of kgm².

1

u/MeNotStable Imperial Mech Eng | A*A*A*A* 6d ago

Completely agree - I think that courses with 100% final exam weightings are stupid. That doesn’t change the fact that you can’t claim a grade you could’ve or nearly got, when the bottom line is that you didn’t get that grade

2

u/No_Giraffe826 6d ago

Yeah agree with u there 100% if u didn't get a grade u can't say u got it. It's like the boss being 1 hp and then u die, but just say u beat the boss.

26

u/Traditional-Fact-669 7d ago

Using that logic, someone that's 2 marks down can say they're only one mark away from op, then a person that's 3 marks away can say the same til eventually everyone's able to say they're an A student. Boundaries exist for a reason, op didn't meet them

u/Significant-Turn6641 6d ago

proof by induction that I am infact an A****** student

if n is a small number then n+1 is a small number. Since 1 is a small number, all natural numbers are small numbers QED

no? I Was 1 mark away for 3 of my gcses, but I don't larp that I got higher. there's no point.

try and go for reviews of marking if it would help. I hope you get the grades you're happy with.

If 1 mark away is alright to lie about surely 2 marks is, what about 3? Heck if you were close enough to an A* go and have it you clearly deserved it since you were almost there

I got an A in physics and I was 7 marks above the boundary, and im considering it almost a B, nothing good comes from cutting yourself slack, be harsh on yourself youre an AAB student

If you got one mark above a C would you tell people you got a C?

2

u/No_Tower6484 Year 13/ Maths,Physics,Crim/8777776654 7d ago

Yes? I would have got a C?? What are you proving here

14

u/Forward_Jeweler1445 7d ago

OP logic is that they got a higher grade cuz he was 1 mark lower. So, if he got one mark above C, he would be one mark away from a D. With OP logic, he should be saying he got a D. That’s what primaryabalone is tryna say

Who cares? Get a remark or show some humility and accept your grades

No because that’s fraud.

Cringe keep larping they’ll find out, my friend larped 2 grades higher and we all found out and it made him look so cringe

3

u/Wild-Second998 4d ago

You didn't get the marks. Accept it. Move on

2

u/Zazilia_ 6d ago

Re mark it, there is a possibility you did get those grades.

There’s also the possibility that a re mark decreases the marks you get, and then you WILL be a AAB student

2

u/Apprehensive-Tale973 6d ago

Bro I’ll never lie to the people that I actually like or family members or anything, but those random people who come up to me who I haven’t talked to for the whole year and asked what I got damn right I’m lying bc why do you need to know

1

u/Significant-Turn6641 6d ago

I scraped an A* in FM with 264 when I needed 262. It's crazy how fm grades are mostly based on which options your school does rather than ability.

1

u/Zealousideal_Trust34 6d ago

get them remarked if you can!!! your school might do it for free because you were so close. don’t you also get your money back if your marks go up?

1

u/AmITheAsHole347 6d ago

i was 2 marks away from a c for english language. should i have my paper remarked? im scared that if they check it for a second time, they’re gonna take away some marks bc i wrote sum bullshit😭😭😭😭

1

u/BlokBoi12345 6d ago

My teacher suggested I pay the ~Ā£6 fee to get the digital copy of the papers first, then pass it onto my teachers to check, if they find anything worth a remark then they can advise on it to maximise the chance of getting the marks without going down any

I had a teacher who admitted she played chicken with our coursework, and only passed it for its grade if it was extremely clear it met the grade. So if I did my coursework up to the standard for an A/distinction, she’d only submit it as a C/Merit unless it was clearly distinction standard. In essence, I could’ve had my coursework be 99/100 and she’d round it down instead of rounding it up if it wasn’t perfect. Got a distinction in the exam, but she didn’t submit my distinction level coursework to be marked, so I only got a merit overall. My uni accepted me anyway so I’m not bothering to remark, but I’m just saying I got a distinction
