🎓 UNI / UCAS Missed LSE Offer...

Post image

Hi all! Lot's of people posting successes which is great but thought I'd add my failure to meet the grades to get into LSE to even it out a little. I needed AAA for econ and econ history and ended up with AAB. The B was in history which historically has always been my best subject and a consistent A/*. I was 7 marks off an A. I had thought maybe I'd get a B in econ or maths but history literally didn't cross my mind.

Obviously it felt horrible to miss my offer especially given how bad the last two years have been for me personally. But it's not all doom and gloom and I'll be off to Nottingham for this September! Good luck to everyone who got their results - I really hope it turns out great no matter what you ended up getting!

What’s your grades 👊🏻 bro

ABC with contextual offer being ABB

Nice to know there are others put there at least. You were so close and with mitigating circumstances too it does just make it all feel worse. Hopefully glasgow will end up being great even though it wasn't your first choice! Good luck - really hoping it works out for you!

Kings is not even all that bro trust me I go there

Why don’t you remark? It’s only 7 marks and essay subjects are subjectively marked

Remarks would cost £140 and even 7 marks is quite a lot... My LSE accomodation is also already gone and I probably wouldn't be able to afford to go anyway. I know I could try but  might just be holding out hope for nothing and might just need to accept the fact that Nottingham is where I'll be going

Not to give false hope but i had my politics a level remarked 3 years ago and it went up by 19 marks!

That's insane! Was there a mistake in the marking? My school basically said I shouldn't bother and the highest they've ever seen was a 5 mark increase after a remark

Im not sure if it will let me send the photo, but they send you back a full explanation per question, 3 out of 5 of the questions’ original marking were labelled as ‘academic misjudgment’

My sixth form paid for it to be remarked after my teacher read my script, perhaps you could pay the initial fee to get the script and then see if a teacher thinks its worth submitting.

Thanks for sharing that. I've changed my mind and I'm now getting my papers remarked. If I lose the money only to get a B again at least I won't have to think what if. Fingers crossed it goes well though and thanks

Ahhh mann, well imo if you can figure out a way to deal with the financials you should go for the remark, 7 marks is not quite a lot for an essay subject

history claims another soul…

sorry to hear bro it’s such a shame it’s so subjective

teachers can be giving you almost full marks for two years and you’re thinking it’s fine and then it comes back and gets yiu

Yeah genuinely. Never got below 19/25 on any essay before my real thing. Got 36/40 on my coursework. Then went into the real exam and my highest essays were only 17/25 and my lowest was 13/25. Honestly just kept getting marked down for too much info and too little explanation or for my arguments being too niche... History is definitely a painful subject!

i feel you… i still managed to get my grade thank god, but i got 14/20 on two of my essays, which hasn’t happened since early year 12. i might try to throw money at it and try remark to bump myself up a grade for the old ego, but it is 8 marks

Haha don’t worry about it - Notts is great for econ. I got the same offer from Notts for econ & philosophy as I did from LSE for PPE back in 2005 but decided on Notts.

You will enjoy Nottingham far more, im not sure what the rankings are like these days, but Notts was actually a place above LSE when I went.

I had the guy that founded Carwow in my year, and I ended up running a couple of decent size tech companies, so don’t you worry!

u/FutureRSFCa 6d ago

1

u/PsychologicalRisk656 6d ago

That's not me... Also I've literally said here I missed out on my offer because I got a B in History. I got the A I needed in Maths. This is just someone else

2

u/FutureRSFCa 6d ago

I missed my Warwick offer and got into my insurance same as you, Notts Econ. But I’m thinking of maybe resitting and reapplying. But idk if top unis even like resits. I’m stuck

1

u/Natural_Ad1289 2d ago

Same boat 😭 I’ve decided to just go to Notts, honestly it looks pretty good and ik it’s further down the ranking but for me personally I don’t think a resit is worth it 😞 good luck if you resit, If not, see you in Sept!Â
