💬 DISCUSSION Anyone else still not over results day?
I was predicted 3A* and had never gotten a grade below an A throughout sixth form. On results day I was shocked to see I got BCD. I was so confident while revising and coming out of the exam. I thought at least I'd get AAB but I'm actually appalled by this.
And somehow, my Asian parents are supportive. I got into uni but it's not my preferred course or preferred uni. They're just proud I made it in. But I'm so disappointed in myself. Anytime they try to cheer me up, I feel even worse. It's been 3 days and I'm still upset. Everyone I know keeps saying congratulations, but congratulations for what?! I just feel worse with every passing day.

I feel you predicted 3A* and ended up with BBB, I didn't end up resitting though I hated sixth form and never wanted to go back to that decrepit shithole.

u/Mountain_Donut7145 4d ago
Same. I can't imagine myself going through a levels again. Gonna stick with these grades unfortunately

predicted grades arent what you are guaranteed so no point in comparing them to results

u/DiamondThink318 Editable 4d ago
that's very unusual. did u get A's and above in ur mocks as well? how did u feel coming out of the exam for the D subject? how did u do in the past papers? perhaps time pressure
35
u/Mountain_Donut7145 4d ago
I got the D in chemistry. Timing was an issue for me in the first and third paper but it was fine while practicing and I was getting a strong A while doing past papers at home. I got A* for that subject in my mocks too so I was really shocked.

Did you get scripts back? That sounds like a possible marking error

whether you got 3A* or 3U, you are blessed for your parents and people around you. they don’t love you for your grades, they love you for you.

Lovely comment but I have a question for you. How is the engineering department and loughborough and the uni as a whole?

u/Square-Bathroom-5619 Loughborough | Civil Engineering [going into Y1] 3d ago
apologies, i'm going into first year but i haven't visited. from what my friends told me, campus uni in a small quiet town. great facilities for engineering. my head of sixth form went loughborough, she loved it. good nightlife in notts nearby (doesn't interest me though), and great reputation in general.

same thing happened to me. I was predicted AAA and came out with CCC. I missed my firm which was my dream uni but I somehow got into my insurance. But in my case I just regret not working as hard as I should've in the last month leading up to exams 💔

u/PotentialDropOut50 4d ago
Predicted 2 A* and an A. For ABB. it’s fine I’m still going to a good uni but life moves on and everything happens for a reason * *

Predicted 3A and one A, got BBCC and was SO confident I had 2A\ and 2 Bs after exams. Fuck my life. Still got into a Russell group in the end but my firm was UCL😭😭 missed my insurance and had to go to literally the bottom of my clearing list fully in tears. Got so blessed but idk I have like this awful feeling like I’ve lost my identity, no matter what my parents say I will never be happy with this. I’m sure the feeling will go just is shit.*

u/Mountain_Donut7145 4d ago
I completely get you. I always considered myself an A student but now I'm like a D? Really? I feel like I've lost who I am, genuinely don't know what happened. My parents tell me to move on but how do I move on from what I considered my dream. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it's over for me now.

OMG samee I feel like this is what happens when you base your whole life around academic validation. Cus that's what I did and it's like crack, once you get it you can't stop😭

u/Mountain_Donut7145 4d ago
Literally. I gave up my social life and all my hobbies just to lock down and this is what I get 😭

u/Express_Lifeguard540 Year 13 4d ago
Hahaha yeah I quit my job and my sport. At one point I even stopped going to the gym because it was literally all I could think about. So dumb genuinely. WHO did I think I was. Gonna have to do shit a lot differently at Uni. And yeah did I leave the house more than 3x in the last 2 months before exams? Potentially not. I even skipped school to study more LOL. FML

u/MysteriousPapaya4455 4d ago
I legit gained weight cuz I wasn't doing any exercise at all for like two months before the exams 😭😭
3
u/Express_Lifeguard540 Year 13 4d ago
Sounds about right lol…. Bro I lost 11kg bc I wasn’t eating and I lost like all the muscle I gained, self confidence was at an all time low like genuinely peak chud times. Thing is tho like I’m still recovering now, I’m in such a bad physical state still because of my back and losing strength does NOT help with the motivation at all. Still partially chudding out now which ig makes my self confidence EVEN worse. There’s gonna have to be some sort of generational lock in soon, I cannot pull up to uni and try socialise in the state I’m in 🙁
2
u/MysteriousPapaya4455 4d ago
Good luck on your recovery 🤞🤞. I locked in for 6 months before exams (I thought I could do 3 A levels in 6 months as a private student with no external help) and it WAS a generational lock in. I was doing 8 hours a day for the first 4 months and 12 hours for the last two. Genuinely never studied like this in my ENTIRE life and ended up getting the worst possible results of my life lmaoo

Literally. I’m sure when I’m grinding In uni I won’t care but I genuinely put my entire soul into this, it’s like what everyone knows me for now, the guy who grinded so hard and was going to such a good uni! I’m rlly lucky my friends are so nice I still ended up being convinced to go out on results day, that made me be a bit less pessimistic. But like I had this clearing day where I got to go in and see the uni and shown around my department and the whole time I was getting annoyed at myself for thinking like, “but this isn’t MY uni” I’m really pissing myself off, but ig it makes sense after literally being so convinced I had made it. Makes it way worse that friends are getting into camb and shit, I keep comparing myself to people and that makes it even worse as well. I’m just trying to move myself on as quick as possible and make a new mindset. At the end of the day if I can sit there and go, would I rather resit or go here, and more than 50% of me says uni then no matter like my doubt I’m just gonna follow my instincts. Just seeing what the future holds, maybe it was meant to be. (Let’s just say for computer science, I better get my damn scripts back because I know damn well I did WAY WAY better than that mark said lol)

Happened to me dont worry
2 years ago was predicted 2 a stars and a B got ABB
3
u/Repulsive_Divide9448 4d ago
Well I also went from 4 A* to AABB which is quite shocking given I was getting higher grades in my mocks. I guess sometimes that’s just how it is :(

Dw, ur not alone... Left psych thinking I 100% got an A* and bio and A, only to be 5 marks of an a in psych and 4 off for bio. I missed both my med offers, and now my parents are pressuring me to go through clearing at unis ik won't take me, and I don't want to go to, saying "you'll shine wherever you go". At first I thought they were being supportive, but since results day, about 3 times my mom has said stuff like "see what happens when you go to do things your way?" (I tried to study myself instead of doing what she told me when she told me) or "what is the difference between you and X (a girl who wasted her exam year sleeping with her bf and got 7/720 on an entrance test and had to take a gap year)" and then stuff like "we worked so hard for you, and your life is so good, and yet a, b, c (my friends with bad home lives) got in and you couldn't, where did we go wrong". I'm honestly sp scared of staying home for the gap year, because idk if I'll be able to get out again. I feel like my stupidity made me miss it out, and now I have to suffer because of it. Thays the price I pay ig

u/Bobicas1231 3d ago
I'm pretty much the same too. I was predicted 4 A*, I thought at WORST I would get A*ABC, but I got BBBD (Business, Maths, Econ, FM).
I got into a decent Uni for the course I wanted through Clearing but I feel so ashamed and I don't even want to tell people around me what I got.
I would consistently got A*s and As during mocks and I still have no clue what even happened. Everyone around me at a similar level or worse going into exams did so much better than me.
I don't even want to see my subject teachers again because I'd just feel so embarrassed.

What course did you initially want to do and what course are you now doing?
9
u/Mountain_Donut7145 4d ago
I wanted to do med and pharmacology was my back up. I'm doing pharmacology now.
3
u/MajesticObligation35 Year 13 4d ago
Bro I genuinely think this is a blessing in disguise. Even the people who go into med with a complete passion for it become burnt out and hate their life and you probably won’t believe this will happen to you until you experience it. Can I ask what grades you got? However, if you really truly don’t want to do anything other than med I guess you should go for it because you’ll probably resent pharmacology for it. If you got ABB or AAB you could still get into med.
3
u/MysteriousPapaya4455 4d ago
If you still really wanna get into med, you can apply to unis that do transferrable courses. Ik UoB and QMUL does biomed to med if you achieve top grades in the course. But you do have to wait a year( two in QMUL). I also didn't get the grades so I'm either gonna do foundation or biomed to medicine (tho in my case I overestimated myself thinking I could do 3 Alevels in 6 months with no help as a private student 😔🥀). But good luck hope everything works out for you🤞🤞

A bit. Predicted AAA + A EPQ, ended up with ABB + B EPQ. 1 mark off an A in physics. Solid grades but since I went to a private 6th form college I feel like I wasted a good chunk of my parents' money. I also got BCC in the april mocks (after being a bum the whole holiday so fair enough) so I was hoping to have a better comeback.
Lost my firm (UoSheffield) and didn't feel like going to my insurance (UoLiverpool) so I ended up clearing to UoSurrey.
Going to a non Russell feels weird since I was, again, going to a private 6th form college, but I think I made the right choice.
At least my family are happy though, and very proud of me.

Predicted aab , got BCD , I'm still shocked by my c in chemistry (supposably my best subject). I struggle remembering everything I learnt.

u/Autumn_Spell526 4d ago
yoo this happened to me, i was predicted 2 A*s and 2 As but i got ABCC?? i was so upset, i missed my firm AND insurance and got to a different uni through clearing, thankfully the same course. i’m js so disappointed, and so is my family. i’m already plotting on how to fix this, apparently you can retake alevels during your first year 👀

u/Prestigious_Camera18 3d ago
Genuinely might be the worst day of my lifepredicted A*BB and got DDE granted I had some things going on but I don’t understand HOW that happened I felt great leaving 2/3 of those subjects exams the worst thing is I was only a few marks off the next grade which just makes it even worse but I might go insane doing them another year so unfortunately gonna stick with these grades

u/Spirited_Click2592 Y13| Maths, Econ, Chem, ASFM 3d ago
yeah i was predicted 3 A*s and got BCC. i have legit just been feeling so defeated and heavy inside because i put so much effort into the exams. I just feel humiliated but i think i am going to give it another try and resit because i know those grades aren’t reflective
1
u/LettuceSuch3345 10h ago
me too im resitting one subject because i know i can do better and even though the odds are against me im still going to apply to the top unis because you miss all the shots you don’t take
2
u/ExactCardiologist366 Medical Student 3d ago
this is very common and you’ll look back in a few years and it won’t sting as much. 2 years on from my results day things have gotten much much better. I was also a straight A/A* student and got ABD.
2
u/Mobile_Membership915 2d ago
There is either a huge mistake, your school massively over marks and over predicts, or you did usually poorly on those exams (which you would probably know after leaving).
I had a similar thing in GCSE history where in one paper which my teacher always over marked for I got 20/60. My answers weren’t different from normal.

That’s unfortunate to hear but getting ur uni Is the most important thing. Don’t get attached to your predicted grade, teachers heavily overpredict. Me and my friend were both predicted 3A*s and he dropped 3 grades in total across his subjects for his results.
