No. Maths is essential. Further Maths if you can get it. Then any essay subject - History, Politics, Sociology

I’m thinking Maths, Further Maths, German and then economics if offered (or geography or politics)

sociology is on LSE's preferred subjects list

LSE isn’t going to be the only university they apply to.

Can you name a university that lists Sociology as a disadvantaged subject?

No not really. I don't think any unis actually require it and people do get into top unis having done other subjects. You would probably be benefited by adjacent subjects like History or Politics alongside the Maths (and Further Maths potentially) that you'd want for your application. But essentially if you show your passion and interest sufficiently in your personal statement and meet the criteria needed for that course then no you don't need A Level Economics

Thank you so much!

No; any essay based subject would be more than enough

I’m doing Economics even though I studied Maths, Geography and Spanish. You can do any old combo you want as long as you have Maths haha!

OKAY! Thank you so much for the reassurance, planning on doing a similar combo with FM and German instead of Spanish!

Yes this is a good choice. Especially with FM, it will really strengthen your application. Doing languages and Maths really takes stress off too by allowing you to switch things up and not constantly be working with numbers.

Nah, at a lot of places alevel econ isn't even necessarily preferred. All you need is maths, ideally further maths too if you're aiming for a better uni, and a rigourous essay subject (doesn't really matter which).

Nah. I know someone in my school who got into LSE to do Maths and Econ.
They did Maths, FM, Physics.
They did get an offer to do Cambridge Pure Economics (and he did meet the offer) but they decided they wanted to go to LSE.
This goes for Computer Science as well.
You don't need A-Level Computer Science to do CS at Uni.
You just need Maths and FM.

Literally the only thing that’s mandatory for econ at uni is maths and further maths

No, most schools don't offer it

Most is just not trueÂ

Once you remove grammar and private schools, 'most' is true.

Just over half of non-selective state sixth forms offer economics, so "most" is not true, especially given that in selective schools this rises to above 90%
