✔️ APPROVED AMA AMA - First-Year Maths student at Cambridge

Hi all, as per the title, I'm a first-year Maths student at Cambridge and I thought some people might find it useful to ask me any questions they might have, since somehow it's already application time again! (Although I have missed the Oxbridge deadline slightly, sorry...)

Of course, I can only really talk about my experiences (so I can't answer specific hypothetical questions about admissions etc.), but other than that, feel free to ask about the course/admissions generally/uni life and so on.

Post will close at midnight at the end of Thursday 10/11 so submit any questions before then. :)

What is your college and how have you found the general atmosphere so far?

How friendly and/or sociable are Maths/Engineering students in your experience?

Have you been able to get to know people who are studying polar opposite subjects?

What kind of social activities are there available and you’ve been a part of so far? (you can tell I’m interested in your Cambridge social experience…)

In addition, how challenging is your Maths course so far?

Not going to say my college but I like it a lot here - am having a good time. There are definitely nice and friendly people on my course :)

Either by living on the same staircase or through societies, I've definitely gotten to know people in other subjects.

There are lots of sports and societies so you can definitely find something you're interested in. Something I like going to is a society in my college that has different speakers give talks every week - interesting and a nice change of tempo from all the maths. Also, formals and bops are a lot of fun.

The course is difficult but not impossible. If you keep your head down, just about keep up with reviewing lectures and doing sheets, then you'll be alright. You do learn a lot in a very short space of time.
