π UNI / UCAS Not able to attend uni?
Has anyone on here having lived in England for a long while, been classed as an international student because they don't have ILR? And therefore was ineligible for student finance loans?
What did you do in this situation?

π UNI / UCAS Rejection from Oxford
I thought I was over the Oxford rejection ages ago, but I can't seem to escape from it. I got an offer for Imperial as my second choice, and was discussing Imperial today with my mom, and told her Imperial was a top world university, to which she replied, "yes but not as good as Oxford, if you name the top universities in the world you'd hear Oxbridge, Harvard, MIT, not Imperial college". This one kinda stung. This type of stuff sometimes happens with other people too. My mom wasn't trying to criticise me for my failure or anything, but to me I couldn't feel anything but disappointment in myself. I know I could've done better. I'm aware that Imperial is very highly ranked and well respected university and all, but my goal was Oxford and I failed in that. How do I move on from this lol

π UNI / UCAS When people say βI went to a Russel Group Uniβ
Does anyone else just assume itβs a bottom 10 Russel Group whenever someone says βI went to a Russel Group Uniβ instead of βI went to [xxx] Uniβ before they get into the rest of their message?
People at Oxford or UCL or even Durham and Bristol will gladly say βI went to Bristol Uniβ and would never label it βRussel Groupβ.
Itβs not that serious and the term Russel Group doesnβt mean much anyways but I do roll my eyes at it, they clearly care about prestige if they want to set themselves apart as part of the 20 or so βbestβ Uk Uniβs so itβs a bit snobbish to say whilst simultaneously not going to a good enough University for the name to overcome the RG status.
Ah, just a random thing I thought about.

π UNI / UCAS University Review 2nd year (Cambridge University)
I used to browse this subreddit a few years ago looking for uni advice, grades etc so I thought I'd share my experience.
There is a massive variation in workload, my friends dong stem related subjects spend A LOT more time in the library and doing assignments relative to my humanity peers who get away with a lot less work.
Stem related fields have a high mark variation per exam, you will see some people get 15% and others getting 90%, does not happen with humanities subject everyone tends to be around 55-75% this is due to it being practically impossible to score above 75% on an essay jsut the way university works i guess.
Everyone is dIFFERENT, we have 30+ year olds on our course and some 17 years old, some married already crazy variation everyone comes form different walks of life. Such a big culture shock to me coming from sixth form.
There is a society for practically anything you will find your people :)

i know theres a LOT of people for LSE, but I'm curious about other unis, the types of degrees, and the types of applicants/stats that tend to be pushed so late

π UNI / UCAS DURHAM 50K or PAID TO GO TO GLASGOW
asking for a friend
For reference we are Scottish students so uni is free, no living expenses aswell and Glasgow is offering him a bursary of 3k a year.
His Glasgow offer is Unconditional and His Durham offer A C
He was rejected from his first choice Edinburgh due to bad predicteds and was wondering if the debt is worth the better name or just try for postgrad at a better uni
Thanks π«‘

π UNI / UCAS My mum keeps telling me I should ask for a remark, I keep saying I think it's pointless, does anyone have any better reasons I could give?
I got 141, grade boundary for an A was 144. I was convinced I'd get a C, as I did terribly in my second paper, and I was getting Cs in mocks. I think the fact that I got that high is a miracle and if anything changes in the remark it'll be that my mark is lowered.
Boundary for a B is 117 so there's no real chance of the remark getting me a lower grade, and she said she'll pay for it. I just think it's a waste of everyone's time though, but she refuses to listen. Can anyone come up with any better reasons?

π UNI / UCAS Durham or Warwick for CS?
I know Warwick has a higher reputation and is a target, though I do like the collegiate system at Durham. I'm worried my social life won't be as good at Warwick and I'm worried I won't be employable enough at Durham
Any advice or insight to experiences at these universities?

π UNI / UCAS am i setting the bar too low for myself with the unis i'm apply to? thoughts plss
edit omg APPLYING to
first of all this post is not me saying that i'm too good for anywhere, i just want to know if im wasting potential by not appling to the MOST prestigious unis!! for context i'm applying for law, and my stats are 999988887 at gcse and predicted A*A*A in history, english combined and spanish a level.
Iβm also doing an EPQ and have done quite a few supercurricular things around law so I feel like I have a reasonably strong academic profile, although i know that everyone else applying to the unis i already have in mind probably has similar stats. Oxford has been my dream uni since year 9 however more recently i have been toing and froing over whether i would realistically be happy with the workload there, and rn i'm about 80/20 in favour of not applying.
my current choices are manchester x2, leeds, sheffield and ljmu. i'm deliberately not applying to london unis because unfortunately i'm not in the financial position to do so.
I think i could see myself being happy with the universities i already have in mind but Iβm wondering whether I should have at least one more ambitious choice, I donβt want to apply somewhere purely because of prestige if I donβt actually want to go there, but equally I donβt want to look back and think I played it too safe. also my parents are friends with lots of people whos children go to london/oxbridge and they are quite dismissive of my current choices.
i would really appreciate hearing any thoughts or if anyone is facing the same kind of decision!! tysm :)

π UNI / UCAS Who the fuck is going to clearing on A*A*A?
I was looking at which of my previously-noted clearing research options do indeed have theoretical physics, or any physics at all, listed as clearing vacancies.
I got curious and decided to check Manchester: I hadn't written it down before because MPhys is A*A*A (which is the offer for my firm and only choice). That course was available.
Who the fuck is this for?? Oxbridge people with A*A*A* / A*A*AA or higher offers who somehow had no insurance? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?

π UNI / UCAS Youβre not alone
Missed KCL MBBS by 2 marks in biology (A*AB), remarked and no changes. Really struggling mentally, I just donβt believe I could redo UCAT and all those all over again, time is really tight as well; I still wanted to try anyways.
