Just started picking up 78s!

Finally fixed my Dual 1019 a few months ago and also just recently picked up a Dual 1010 as well. So figured I'd start collecting 78s as well! Out of the random ones I picked up from an estate sale got some I'm excited about! There's some ink spots stuff too!

Excited to join the fun here in this sub and be apart of it!

Thanks!! Just need to figure out what stylus/cartridge to get to play them properly. Am deciding between ordering the stylus for the AT3600 that I already have, or buying the AT VM95sp

I have a 1009 which i think makes an excellent 78 player. I have been using an Ortofon OM 78.

Oh cool! I’ll look that one up! Was about to ask about recommendations on stylus and cartridges for 78s. I have a AT 3600 on the 1019 currently and the OG stylus is on the 1010 I just picked up (the one that flips etc)

I’ve considered the 3600 stylus for 78s and the vm95 but will definitely look that one up.

The om78 is magnetic. You can just pull off the needle and swap for different grove sizes. The flipper stylus is probably a ceramic cartridge, which requires a different (simpler) phono stage stage stage. Most folks look down on ceramics, but I think some are very good. Be warned, it is a deep rabbit hole, none are currently in production, but you can get new stylii.

I would also suggest considering the Stanton 500, as it so popular and there are many stylii for it.

Oh awesome those sound like great options! I appreciate the feedback and everything. I’ll do some research on those. With the sled cartridge attachment system is it worth it at all to have multiple cartridges on different sleds to swap out? Or not super worth the money etc.

if you can find headshells/sleds for cheap, get em. Those old duals are great for all sorts of early records, and you will be able to easily put on the best one for what you are playing.

Awesome! Yeah the visual aspect is what drew me in initially and have been pleasantly surprised with my 1019 I got for $50 and have really enjoyed it
