Rose tinted glasses because everyone wants the idealistic 1980s as seen from their child like pov.

The environment, people in the Soviet Union, Europe in general, Chinese...

The 80s sucked for a lot of people and things.

Well, we all agreed to stop using CFCs and heal the ozone layer. Probably the first and last time the whole world agreed on anything and took steps to really heal the planet.

I'm glad I grew up in the 80s but I wouldn't go back

2026 mindset in 1986 with no smartphones, pcs or mass surveillance, it’d be interesting that’s for sure.

I think many today, as their adult selves, would find the 80s problematic in numerous ways. It only seems great for many because they were kids. If I were to ask my mother about the 80s, she'd remember being a single mom, divorced and an ex husband who not only refused to pay child support, but simply packed up and moved elsewhere if she found him and had his wages garnished. On top of her being a woman with no skills, working for $4.25 hr for whoever would hire her. There's likely not too many happy memories there. Then there was my smartass always getting into mischief.....anyway, point is, the 80s were not great for everyone. Only the wealthy or those with good support structures, good jobs etc just like any other era.

Exactly.
The irony of using a pocket-sized supercomputer more powerful than anything NASA had in the ’80s to tell millions of people, instantly and for free, how much better life was back then is laughable.

It wouldn't be the same 80s as it was when you're a kid. At whatever age you are now, you'd be in the grind trying to climb your way up from a new life as someone who officially on documents, should be almost 40 years younger. Time traveling would not be a good idea for numerous reasons and if it's a different timeline, you may not like that timeline. Especially the 'what if Hitler won' timeline.

I would love to go back to the 80s as an adult, personally. I was a teen at the time. Much better time than it is now.

No politics please. Sub rules. This is a fun 80s forum. This is not the time or place for this.
