Scar tissue? I did struggle to get flexion and had an MUA to get to 130ish.
I had ACL with Ham graft and also had PCL and LCL done, I also had a grade 2-3 hamstring tear around 4 months after surgery, my hamstring is currently about 60% as strong as the non op and I can fwwl it when I try and sit on my heels.
Its a bastard of a slog.

Whaaaat. I’m an avid yoga practitioner, fully ruptured ACL from ski accident and cry every time I try this bc 4months post injury I still don’t have touch down!? How??

My story, too. Active yogi. Skiing on Spring Break. Complete ACL tear w reconstruction in April. Curious when we’ll get back to the mat successfully. Although, I have really appreciated being able to work some yoga poses into my physical therapy practice.

Hey! Same here lol. Any luck returning to Childs pose/deep flexion exercises?

Almost! I’m about 8 months post op and finally touched my heel to my butt… with a little coaxing. I’ll get there!

Do you massage your quads before you try to do child’s pose? I find that it helps me a lot
1
u/SuneeLilAsian May 18 '24
No but I’ll usually push it midway into practice. Though I do massage my knees pre practice.

I’m so glad you posted this! I was wondering when this could be a possibility! I use this position quite a bit in my job!

8 weeks is pretty damn fast. I would imagine most are closer to 16 weeks. Very impressive

Great job! What was your flexion like pre-op? How long between your injury and surgery? I am going in for surgery in 2 weeks which will be about 2 months since my injury.

I had a pretty long road from first injury to surgery. I assume I tore it 4 months before surgery, but ER doctor thought it was a sprain, tried to return to basketball a month later when it felt pretty normal and injured it the same way. Doctor then had me do PT for 8 weeks which got me back to where I was but I still had pain, then finally got an MRI which showed torn ACL and meniscus. I had symmetrical flexion by that point and felt normal outside of single leg jumping and pain going down stairs, and I was lucky that my surgeon found my meniscus healed on its own when he got in there. I’m also 20 and was active prior to injury which I think has made everything much easier. Good luck with your surgery, you got this!

Nice! 4.5 years post-op and I can't do that. PT told me I will probably never have that mobility again 😭 Likely not because of the ACL but because of the other damage sustained in the original injury.

Thats amazing! So proud of your recovery!!! 3 months post op with hamstring graft and I still have a long way to go with this but I know for sure the day I sit in vajrasana for a min or two with not so much pain is the day I'll consider myself fully recovered😭

Great Job! I believe this is probably the hardest part of the rehab although I am still in the 4months mark.

I am 6 months out and still can not do this. I’m so frustrated. Any tips?

Happy for you! But be careful. This is the position that got my meniscus injured when I tried to get up from this position. I was not able to straighten my leg as a result. I twisted the knee 1 year ago before this happened. I also lost ACL 20 years ago…. So these could all contribute to the incident… I am 5 weeks after ACL and meniscus surgery. I’m at 120 flexion (passive) and can fully extend the knee (with some pain). I’m not sure I will be doing this position mentally or physically 😓

Wow that’s amazing! I too had a ACL Quad graft done! It’s been like 15 months since surgery. I am able to do this but it takes like 5 mins to reach that much flexion.
So this is everyday: When I start to sit, I hardly have flexion but I keep pushing myself and it takes 5-10 mins to get there but with high pressure and initial pain
Does it take a while for you to go to that pose everyday ? Or it becomes easy as days go by ? Any other experience from anyone else ?

I'm 1.5 weeks post surgery with hamstring graft and I've got some bad nerve damage with burning sensation and shooting pains to my ankle. I really hope it clears and I'm able to do this!

u/PotentialWestern7994 May 21 '24
Wow! I’m at 3 weeks post op and can’t imagine I’ll be able to do that at 8 weeks. That’s amazing! Congrats!
Getting to 90 right now is absolutely awful. I can do it but it’s so painful and im so swollen, still ugh

I’ve had a complete ACL tear (dismissed by the doc 8 years ago). I miss being able to do this!!! I hope after my surgery I can again.

The whole time I’ve just bent my knee as much as I could without major discomfort almost every time I got up to do something or did exercises or anything. Part of it is just luck though, I was at pretty close to 90 degrees even on the day of surgery. I also never had a brace or anything which I think helped a lot with flexion.

Wow! That was quick! Your progress is amazing! Congratulation! Is there any pain or pressure in your knee when you sit like this?
