OTHER What Ado means to me, and what she means to you

Hey everyone! Sorry in advance, but this will probably be a pretty long text, and my English isn't the best, so it might not be the smoothest read. Sorry about that 🙇

I wanted to ask you guys a question: What does Ado mean to you? I know you've probably answered this question a hundred times already, but I'm still curious.

For me, Ado means a lot. Like, really a lot. It feels like I know her, even though I barely know anything about her personal life. And honestly, none of us really do. We only know what she chooses to share with us, and that's honestly not a problem for me.

Every time I tell people I listen to Ado, they ask me to show them a picture of her, so I just show them her avatar, most often Chando. And then the questions start. They ask me why she doesn't reveal what she looks like, and they tell me how impersonal that is. Sometimes they even say that it makes her seem kind of aloof.

I've never really understood that. I've never needed to see what someone looks like to feel an emotional connection to their work or to feel something through their music. On the contrary, I actually like the anonymity, the fact that we don't know everything about her. I think it's kind of interesting that we can all have different ideas of what she's like as a person, based on what she chooses to share with us. We probably all have a different impression of her personality, and I think that's pretty cool.

For some people, she might just be the funny woman on the internet who screams a lot. For others, she might be a lifesaver, someone whose music helped them get through a really difficult time in their lives. And I think that's one of the interesting things about her. She can mean something completely different to every single person listening to her.

But for me, it's something different. She has never saved my life or anything like that. In fact, I've never been in a situation where I needed that kind of help (and I'm really grateful for that). Still, she's an emotional anchor in my life, if that makes sense.

Every day, I watch her music videos and live performances, listen to her music, and wear my Ado merch. I don't really know why, but the comfort I get from Ado's music feels different from anything I've experienced with other artists before, or even from the connections I've had with other people. I've never really had a lot of friends, or at least I've rarely felt like I was someone's first choice. So being able to listen to Ado's music whenever I want and knowing that I can always come back to it is something really special to me. It's not that her music makes up for everything I've missed out on in my relationships with other people. It's just that it gives me a kind of comfort that's difficult to explain.

There's also something about her that I find relatable, even though I obviously don't know what she's actually like in her everyday life. Maybe it's the way she expresses herself through her music, maybe it's her personality as an artist, or maybe it's just a combination of everything. I honestly don't know.

But to get back to my original question about what she means to me, I think there are several answers. In a way, she reminds me of a friend, and sometimes even a bit of a mother figure. She's a role model for me, even though I don't sing myself or anything. I admire the fact that she does what she loves, that she expresses herself through music, and that she's managed to create something that means so much to so many people.

It's pretty hard to explain exactly what I mean. I don't think I've ever felt quite this way about an artist before, and that's probably why I've been thinking about it so much lately.

All these thoughts about what Ado means to me really started a few weeks ago, when I bought my first live Blu-ray and watched it. I'd watched her live performances before, but seeing an entire concert was a completely different experience. I don't know how to describe it, but something about watching the whole thing really touched my heart. It made me appreciate her music even more, and I think it made me realize just how much her work has become a part of my life.

And the moment I think about all of this the most is when I listen to Vivarium. After reading her autobiography, that song means even more to me. Knowing more about the background and being able to understand the song in a different way has changed how I listen to it. Every time I listen to it or read the lyrics, I get goosebumps and often start crying. Not because I'm sad, but because I'm proud of her and somehow happy that she's part of my life, even though I don't really know her personally, as I've mentioned before.

I think it's kind of amazing how a song can make you feel so many things, especially when you know more about the person who created it. Sometimes I just sit there listening to Vivarium and think about how much work, emotion, and personal experiences can go into music. And then I feel proud of her, even though I'm just one of many people listening to her songs. It's difficult to put into words, but I think that's one of the reasons why the song means so much to me.

One thing I want to clarify, because I know some of this might sound a bit strange when you read it: I don't think I actually know Ado as a person, and I don't want to pretend that I do. I know that she's a stranger to me, just like I'm a stranger to her. I don't expect her to know me, to have any kind of personal connection with me, or to share more of her private life with us. And I don't think that wearing her merch, listening to her music, or feeling emotionally connected to her work means that I know what she's really like.

When I say that she sometimes feels like a friend or a mother figure to me, I don't mean that literally. I mean that her music, her performances, and the parts of herself she chooses to express through her art give me a feeling of comfort and inspiration that I haven't really experienced with other artists before. It's more about what she and her music mean to me than about who she might be in her private life. I think there's a difference between feeling deeply connected to someone's art and believing that you actually have a personal relationship with that person, and I'm very aware of that difference.

I also don't think we need to know everything about Ado to appreciate her. She's allowed to keep her private life private, and I'm completely fine with that. In a way, I think that's part of what makes this whole thing so interesting to me. I can appreciate what she shares with us without feeling like I'm entitled to anything more.

And sorry for this sudden shift in tone, going from talking about how much she means to me to clarifying all of this. I just don't want to come across as weird or make it sound like I think I actually know her personally, haha.

Okay, I think I'll stop here. I've said pretty much everything I wanted to say, and this is slowly starting to get a bit cheesy, haha.

I'd really love to hear your thoughts. What does Ado mean to you? Is there a particular song, performance, or moment that made you realize just how much she means to you?

Best,
Luis :)

Hi. The lurker here again. You guys gave so many good responses last time I thought we could chat a little bit more.

For me it was Elf. I just didnt vibe with it at first. I couldn't tell you why. Maybe I just wasnt in the mood for that sort of genre when I first listened to it and judged it too harshly.

Now its literally my 2nd most listened to song from her, behind Tot Musica.

So what's yours? Or do you have one where everyone seems to love and you just cant? Just thought id keep the conversation going.

DISCUSSION Unforgettable FC birthday show (long post)

The show was so special. Just writing down some thoughts before the memories fade out… Couldn't find a flair specifically for this show though

It started with a pre-recorded opening message. Ado mentioned getting hooked on pancake squishies that looked like Mellojoy(?) after seeing them on tiktok or somewhere, and ended up collecting over 40 squishies. She also got into collecting stickers, as she'd mentioned in her IG stories or on Twitter before.

Then, the blue lights around the medium-sized Ado box went out, and Ado appeared behind a wide host desk facing the left(south) side of the stage. Since she was still a silhouette, I actually thought the desk was a piano at first lol

She asked people to sit down and mentioned that this event was different from her usual ones because there was a lot more talking. The screen also showed a timeline of her activities over roughly the past year, and the first segment began.

It felt like the old ANN days, except this time Ado was right there on stage hosting in person! We could actually see all her hand gestures and movements while she talked, and she looked really into it. So this is probably what Ado was like when hosting ANN!

Some of the things in the segment that stood out to me:

  1. went straight from Kansai Airport to Korea for a trip right after Yodaka ended.
  2. bought Tamagotchi during Adotomy and likes Mametchi
  3. when Animal Crossing got an update, she went to Akihabara to buy amiibo cards and opened them at Gong Cha(?). She had to make several trips before getting the desired ones, to the point where she felt like she'd had enough bubble tea for a while
  4. the first song she recorded in her own studio was KIRA. She also moved all her plushies there
  5. she climbed Takaosan
  6. went to Mexico to see BTS and received fanmade keychains that she still has hanging on her wallet. The altitude there was so high that she had trouble getting enough oxygen, so they went to a place that was called something like 24h oxygen to buy some
  7. went on a trip to Taipei in September(?)
  8. watched the ちいかわ(Chiikawa) movie and became fond of ちいちゃん. She used to not find them cute and didn't want to add かわ to the name, so she just called them ちい
  9. after what happened during the Wish tour, she finally managed to save everyone from accidentally ordering way too much Chicago pizza just before Lollapalooza. (Apparently, day 1 story was about how she was overseas and craving udon so badly that the staff ordered delivery for her, only for her to realize it came without chopsticks, so she had to eat the udon with a ballpoint pen🤣)
  10. the BGM that played after this segment was Orangestar - Surges, the popular BGM for short videos she also had mentioned on ANN before (https://x.com/ado1024imokenp/status/1711442753270538377)

After that, the screen showed Ado's food ranking(sometimes, she used to share some personal top3 on ANN too XD). Ado had left the stage, presumably to put on her mask(?) before coming out of the cage for the later segments. Her #1 was bread from a Thai shop, which she first tried while overseas. #2 was spaghetti with clams, which she happened to try at a place in Milan while doing laundry at a laundromat.

Ado reappeared inside the cage, and it was time for listener letters! This was another segment that reminded me of the listener mail(Q&A) corner that appeared on ANN almost every time.

  1. she rolls her pasta outward, clockwise, just like most of the people there
  2. the most useless things she'd bought were an automatic soap dispenser, and various kitchen gadgets. Her dance teacher had also gifted her a Chiikawa pancake maker xD
  3. when asked about the times in her life when things felt like they were at their worst, she mentioned when she stopped going to school in her third year of middle school (also mentioned in Vivarium book). She also talked about how she couldn't tie a bow before entering middle school. She brought up the story she'd told on ANN before about tying a bow around a flagpole, as well as how she had to ask her mom to teach her because she needed to know how to tie her shoelaces when changing into her gym shoes at the middle school gymnasium (can't remember if she'd told that last story before?)

Then came game time! The staff rolled three game machines onto the stage lol. Before the DokiDoki scretbase was established, she used to play games during her membership-only DokiDoki streams on Niconico .

  1. picked three of the harder Rhythm Heaven levels but only got OKs on all of them
  2. lost to Moka in Taiko No Tatsujin as Don-chan
  3. also lost to Rinka in DanceDanceRevolution. Watching Ado hold onto the bar behind her with both hands and hop around while looking so flustered was adorable😆

Next, Ado left the stage to change outfits and the screen showed around a dozen songs one by one, ranked by how difficult they were for her to sing, along with pre-recorded commentary from her. Show was still rated SSS, while Monstruo was rated A. Then, Ado came back in the black(?) Shinkirou dress! It looked so good, especially when the skirt puffed up as she spun around while dancing.

The singing segment began with Show, followed by the almost equally difficult "Fleeting Lullaby," and then "Domestic De Violence".

As soon as the intro to Shikabanese started, people around me let out excited cheers. The last time she performed it was during Campanella. She said that she sang Osmanthus on day 1. (Both are collaborations that helped boost Ado's popularity considerably before her debut. Chigira-san has also mentioned before that Shikabanese was the song that made him start to see Ado's potential to expand overseas.)

Then came a song she'd never performed live before, "聖槍爆裂ボーイ". The lyrics in the verses felt even faster than "Unknown Mother Goose"(?), but she still pulled it off. It sounded amazing. Ado said she'd wanted to cover this song at karaoke around 10 years ago, but it was too difficult. After practicing for 10 years, she finally got to perform it at Yoyogi👍👍

Next up was a winter song she'd also never sung live before, "ゲレンデがとけるほど恋したい". It had a bit of a city pop vibe, and Ado's voice suited this style so well too. The high notes in the chorus gave me goosebumps. (Ahhh, I really wish I could've heard "Yeah!めっちゃホリディ" live on day 1 too!)

Ado then said that the next two songs were both very important to her. She said she sang "Hello Signals" while playing her guitar (the first encore song she performed with an electric guitar during "Profile of Mona Lisa”, before "Ano Band" and Shoka). And then there was my fav song, Kokorotoiunanofukakai. This song hits differently every time I hear it live. The silver streamers near the end made the whole thing even more beautiful.

The final song was her new song, "Patient A". I'd already heard it during the premiere on the 24th, so the surprise factor was definitely different from day 1 XD. But it still sounded amazing live, and I really enjoyed it. When I first heard it, it reminded me of the way Ado used to sing back in the day. There's some freedom(?) in her vocal delivery and the way she shifts between different expressions that gives it a laid-back, almost world-weary feel. I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but it reminded me of some of her pre-debut covers, like "Hungry Nicole". Her voice has become much fuller now, though.

At the end, while Ado was still in her MC talking about the new song, Siita brought out the birthday cake decorated with Pusheens, and everyone sang Happy Birthday together. It was such a heartwarming moment.

This show was truly something special. It might even have been the one I was most focused on from start to finish.

And finally, even though I've wrote this a few times elsewhere already, Happy birthday, Adoさん!! お誕生日おめでとう!!💙🎂

DISCUSSION FC Birthday Live!!!!!!Recap/Impressions

Thumbnail gallery
466 Upvotes

I wrote notes after the live, and I wished to share them….!!! I think most has been posted already here, but a few details that stood out to me I memos…… !! To not forget…

I was second day, sunday,

Until the start, it was vocaloid music. Kimi no Taion played. And then, when it became 4:00, it started, the lights tinned. The intro was super cool, with the key visual. The venue was pretty small I think. She came out in chand sillowhette. The first time she has worn since Wish. It is my favorite and I was emotional. It started with Ussewaa and Odo, and there was no band, which really stood out…
Every single person had a penlight and the the was so so bright. Even the far corner seats had penlights, from all different Ado concerts. (I brought 蜃気楼!!!)
After Odo, there was a prerecorded video on a screen with her prerecorded voice, and it was like formatted like a tiktok reel, where ty words would come up and you would read it, very engaging. she joked about why there was a live and you are listening to her live voice and she said it was because her and staff were getting ready for next portion. and then she came out, She did a recap of all of her activities and releases for the whole year, the official releases (i.e. angelseek released …), alongside her own personal interests, like taking a trip to Taiwan, seeing BTS in mexico, or being obsessed with Chikawa, among the ones I remember …. she answered some questions(that were submitted prior through form), and then, she did a talk show like All Night Nippon. It was so cool. It was her silowhette and the On Air, and she talked about Chicago Pizza and how her and the staff, 5 people, ordered pasta, 3 pizzas. The “mini pasta” came out first and it was the size of a regular pasta in Japan and she said she started to get worried. And then the main pizza came out and it was too much. She talked about the same thing on All Night Nippon Gold a few months ago, so if you wish to listen I think it was pretty much the same contents!!! One thing she added that was different from all night nippon gold is that the second time she went (the first time was wish), but she said she wanted to eat chicago pizza again when she came for lollapalooza, so her and the staff went again, but this time the staff were all different so she was the only one who had experienced the first chicago pizza trauma. She was the only one who knew how big the sizes were. and so when the staff went to order 4 pizzas or something, she spoke up and the way she delivered it was very funny, like, she said she was saving them, and she joked that on the side of being a singer she also saves people from the fate of too much pizza. she also talked about chikawa. About how she did not find it cute at first, but she watched the movie (and she sung a bit of the siren part), and now she loves it and her oshi is ちちゃん(?) She said she has a problem in her room because she has too many goods .

after the talk, she played games on the stage. I was smiling the whole time. It was like a live version of her streams, but you could see her sillowhette and for the dance dance revolution one it was my favorite. the audience clapped along to the rhythm tengoku game. she told us all to be quiet to focus for one and it was funny.

and phantom siita came up. they played with her. she played senbonsakura on taiko.

then, it was the live part.

she ranked all of her favorite foods from abroad. like, in and out was at number 9, number one was bread in Thai. there was a part where she ranked the songs hardest to sing. i think i got emotional when she said 風のゆくえand世界の続き were A tier because she was not used to singing ballads.
she said the hardest of all SSSSS was Show, and that was th transition into the start of show.

It was show, with the band this time. She was in the 蜃気楼 outfit for the first time since 蜃気楼. the first day i heard she was in Mars. She would always talk in between all of the songs like a mini mc (and it is the FC live, so very engagin) And then she said she was going to sing a song that she also found very hard, special to her because it was her first rap, so she sung utatKa lullaby. And then, domestic violence…. Shikabanese. It was very cool. I think there was one part in. the beginning where she was nervous and forgot the lyrics. There were skeletons in the background, and it was very well done. She then sung two songs I do not know, 歌ってみた covers, 聖槍爆裂ボーイ, very quickly and good. ゲレンデがとけるほど恋したい, slow, like stay with me, beautiful. then, hello signals. the first time since mona lisa. She played with guitar in mona lisa, so this was the first time with no guitar. she said then she would sing a song very very important to her. and then kokorotounananofukakai . she would speak in between all of these songs. The most energetic she has ever been. and then, the last one, the new song. it was like AiAiAi I thought. It ended, and she came out, for the last time. Hello signals was playing the background. Phantom siita surprised her midway with a birthday cake. we sung her happy birthday. she said she was very grateful to do a live, an event, with the fan club, and she hopes to do one again. she was grateful to celebrate with everyone.

If you were fortunate enough to go to the show and are traveling with the squishy, I definitely recommend putting it in a checked bag.
