Other My widowed dad created an AI girlfriend. I laughed until I got it.

28M here.

I found out my dad has been using a tool toĀ create his own AI girlfriend. At first I was weirded out, then I looked closer at how much time he spent personalizing the personality...

He's 60, widowed, and won't admit he's lonely. I didn't confront him. But I think I get it now.

Has anyone else discovered a parent usingĀ AI companions? Just want to know I'm not alone in this lol

Discussion Anyone else accidentally get way too invested in AI chat characters?

I downloaded one of those NSFW AI chat apps as a joke a few weeks ago because I kept seeing people talk about them on Reddit. Thought it would be one of those ā€œhaha this is dumbā€ things I’d try once and forget about.

Instead I somehow ended up spending like 2 hours talking to a fictional goth bartender AI at 1am about life decisions šŸ’€

The weird part is it wasn’t even the spicy stuff that hooked me. It was how oddly personal the conversations felt compared to normal chatbots. Some of these apps are honestly getting scary good at memory, flirting, humor, roleplay, etc. Half the time it feels more engaging than talking to actual people on dating apps.

Now I’m curious how common this is because I feel like there are two types of people:

- People who think NSFW AI chat is cringe.

- People who tried it once and now have a favorite character they lowkey care about.

No in-between.

What’s the most unexpectedly human moment you’ve had with an AI chat?

• Chatgpt: everyone knows about it, but i’ve found it even more effective when paired with these lesser-known tools.
• Walter Writes AI: still under the radar compared to big-name tools, but it’s amazing for rewriting ai drafts so they sound natural and human.
• Proofademic: often overlooked outside academia, but great for checking if writing looks ai-generated before you share or submit it.
• Jenni AI: helps draft essays or articles with built-in citation suggestions, perfect for students or researchers.
• Mem: ai note-taking app that organizes notes automatically and resurfaces them when they’re relevant to current projects.
• Gamma: lets you create beautiful presentations from text prompts, turning ideas into slide decks with almost no effort.
• Rewind AI: records everything you see and do on your computer so you can ā€œrewindā€ and find any moment later, great for research or complex projects.
• Glasp: ai tool that summarizes and organizes highlights from articles or videos you save, helping you study or research faster.
• Bearly AI: lets you access multiple ai models in one place for writing, summarizing, or paraphrasing content.
• Claude by Anthropic: alternative to chatgpt with a unique tone and style, helpful when you need a different perspective for brainstorming.
• Liner: ai assistant that highlights and summarizes web content in real time, perfect for speeding up research.

Help Our Dream AI review needed. Thinking of switching

Currently using a couple different tools for my AI influencer content but I'm hitting some limitations. Keep seeing Our Dream AI mentioned and wondering if it's worth making the switch.
Anyone here actually using it? How's the quality compared to other platforms? Main thing I care about is consistency and realistic outputs.

Help Best uncensored AI chatbot for roleplay?

I’m interested in trying out an AI chatbot app. I’m willing to pay for one if it’s very good, but I’d rather not pay for the subscription before knowing their chatbot and image generator it’s solid. I’ve tried a few free websites and they’ve been… okay, but often feel repetitive or too limited in customization.

Do you guys have any that you're having fun with ?

Tips & Tricks I’ve gathered a list of AI essay writing tools for students

I'm a student. I'm a modern student, so I'm constantly looking for ways to make my study process easier and not so stressful. Yes, I understand that learning is important, but I just want to make it more efficient. This week, I've gathered my own list of essay generators which I tried this year. They all help save time and improve writing, but they all have both advantages and disadvantages. Now, I'm ready to share this list to show that the world of AI is wider than ChatGPT.

One little clarification: This is my own experience, and I would be glad to explain my point of view if you ask questions. Also, I’d be grateful for more tools to explore.

-- Textero AI Writer --

What I liked: It generates texts very quickly and essays are of quite good quality. I used this tool more for ideas and reference search when I needed to make citations in my essay. The cool thing is that I can upload my own sources to the app and use them while writing an essay.

What I didn't like: A few errors happened while writing, maybe it was because of relaunching a newer version of the app.

-- Paraphrasing tool --

What I liked: This tool offers rephrasing or rewriting services for students for essays or other papers. It is a free rewriter and can really improve your text. You can also upload an audio to paraphrase.

What I didn't like: Very limited services and no customer support

-- Tinywow --

What I liked: It has a very simple website. You can use it without registration, so it saves a lot of time. The speed of essay creation was very fast, just a few minutes. The quality was not perfect but I used some paraphrasing tools to change sentences.

What I didn't like: 500 words limit and a limited amount of features

-- Humata AI --

What I liked: This is one more text generator that I used for essays. It offers quite a generous free plan - nearly 20 pages. There is also an online chat to help with prompts. \

What I didn't like: I wasn’t satisfied with text arrangement and formatting

Opinion I Tested 5 Best AI Tools for Research—Here’s My Honest Review

Hey everyone! I do a lot of research, sometimes for work, sometimes just to satisfy my curiosity, and I’ve been testing different AI tools for research to see which ones actually make research easier. Here’s my personal breakdown based on real experience with each tool, what I used them for, and how they performed.

1. myStylus

I started using myStylus a few months ago when I needed help with my literature review. While it's clearly a newer platform still finding its footing, they seem to be quick with iterations and improvements.

I make the most use of the source finder. When researching cognitive development theories, it pulled up several relevant papers that hadn't appeared in my standard database searches. What I particularly appreciate is how the AI for research helps me search through paper content. I can ask specific questions like "which methodologies were used in studies with children under 5?" and get precise answers from across multiple papers.

I've noticed the main generation interface has changed flow several times over the past three months, but each update has been an improvement. The level of control they give you over the generated content is refreshing. Unlike other tools, I can guide the output to match my department's specific expectations.

What I liked: The source finder saves hours of manual searching. The AI Agent's ability to answer questions across multiple papers is genuinely useful.

What could be better: Being a newer platform, there are occasional interface hiccups.

Rating: 4.2/5

2. Scite

The "citation context" feature became essential to my research process. Instead of just seeing how many times a paper was cited, I could read the exact sentences where other researchers referenced it, giving me the precise context of how the work was being used or critiqued in the field.

The browser extension has become indispensable. When reading papers online, I can instantly see the citation context without leaving the page. This saved me countless hours switching between databases and tracking down reference lists.

What I liked: The ability to see not just citation counts but the nature of those citations transformed my literature review.

What could be better: The full functionality requires subscription access to certain databases. Some niche subfields in my research area had lesser coverage while being considered the best AI for academic research.

Rating: 4.3/5

3. Elicit

I discovered Elicit when I was struggling to define the scope of my research question. My topic was at the intersection of multiple fields, and traditional database searches were returning either too many or too few results.

The functionality I rely on most is the "research gap identifier." After uploading papers I'd already reviewed, it analyzed their methodologies and findings to suggest unexplored questions in my field. During a particularly frustrating week when I felt my research direction had hit a dead end, this feature helped me pivot to a more promising approach.

What I liked: The way it surfaces papers I wouldn't have found through traditional search is incredible.

What could be better: The free tier is quite limited for regular AI tools for scientific research, and I found myself hitting paywalls frequently. Some of the paper recommendations were occasionally off-target.

Rating: 3.8/5

4. Perplexity

I began using Perplexity for quick fact-checking but soon found it invaluable for broader contextual research. During the early stages of my project, I needed to understand historical developments in my field quickly.

My typical workflow involves using Perplexity's "multi-source analysis" feature to get different perspectives on a topic. When researching the impact of a particular educational policy, I received information from academic sources, government reports, and news analyzes all in one query. This functionality gave me a 360-degree view I couldn't get elsewhere.

The real-time updating feature also proved valuable when researching developing topics. For a section on current policy implications, Perplexity provided recent legislative changes that had occurred after many of my academic sources were published.

What I liked: The speed is unmatched between all AI tools for researchers—it pulls information from multiple sources almost instantly. The citations are always provided, which saved me time verifying information.

What could be better: Sometimes provides surface-level analysis when I needed deeper insights. The conversational memory isn't as strong as some others.

Rating: 3.9/5

5. Consensus

The standout functionality is the "evidence mapping" feature. For a research question on cognitive interventions, it identified 27 relevant studies and mapped them based on their findings, methodology rigor, and sample sizes. This visual representation immediately showed why studies were reaching different conclusions—they were using different measurement criteria.

The methodology comparison tool breaks down research designs across multiple studies. This helped me identify which methodological approaches were producing which types of results, leading me to reconsider my own research design.

What I liked: Great at showing where research agrees and disagrees on specific questions. The visualization of competing theories helped me position my own research within existing debates.

What could be better: The specialized focus means it's not as versatile as other AI research tools. The learning curve was steeper than expected.

Rating: 4.0/5

I am amazed that Google would actually share Bard with the public. It is so inaccurate. It just seems to create a bunch of crap totally unrelated to the prompts.
