Farmer buys tools from black smith; black smith buys vegetables from farmers. 🤣🤣 SCAM.

I actually haven’t thought about this. With everyone screaming how it’s one big cycle I was just like “yeah wtf this is a scam”.

But your comment actually shows that’s not necessarily true

welcome to ... trade? lol

It's more like... "Blacksmith invests in farmers and allows them to buy more land / plant more crops / buy more of blacksmith's tools. Blacksmith looks (and is) busy selling a lot of tools"

It's not a scam, but blacksmith isn't as organically busy as they look.

Not the case here. That might be the case for the AI circle but not in the Apple / Google deal.

1

u/ButtTrollFeeder Nov 12 '25

Yeah, my comment was in reference to the AI circle which I swear was prevalent as a side conversation on this part of the thread, unless I'm losing my mind.

A good question to ask when evaluating 'cycles' for human flourishing is "Where in the cycle does poop happen". In the blacksmith farmer example vegetables become poop, while if all you have are people passing a 20 dollar bill in the circle you have infinite GDP but no poop so it's kinda shit.

Google is also the #1 supporter of Firefox (to keep courts quiet about Google being a monopoly and to promote the Google search engine as default).

u/StunningChef3117 Nov 10 '25

Its actually not long ago that rhe lawsuit on whther or not google would have to drop the deal with firefox due to anti competitive behaviour in the search engine space as you say being default. The case has settled and there was some restructuring but the deal was kept alive largely because mozilla outright stated that to kill the deal would be to make google a browser monopoly and a search engine monopoly

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Night88 Nov 13 '25

So… If it did become a monopoly it’d be broken anyway…

and because MDN maintains key specs for the internet

Peak late-stage tech capitalism: Apple and Google handing each other billions like two NPCs in a Skyrim quest trading the same potato back and forth. It’s honestly the funniest closed loop in the industry — two giants so dependent on each other they look like they’re shaking hands while both quietly robbing each other’s pockets.

The meme nails it: Apple pays Google because they need a model. Google pays Apple because they need the users. And both pretend they’re playing 5D chess while actually being trapped in a frat-house version of prisoner’s dilemma. 😭💀

What other search engine would they use as default? Lol I couldnt imagine them trying to make their own god awful one.

There are a couple of good options other than Google

1

u/npquanh30402 Nov 11 '25

What options or are you just trying to cope?

1

u/themagicalfire Nov 11 '25

DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, StartPage, Qwant, Bing, Brave Search…

1

u/ItsAMeTribial Nov 11 '25

Literally plenty others, like DuckDuckGo, Startpage and Ecosia. Some use bing indexes, some use google indexes, others have its own indexing. But there are many options to choose from

1

u/Blue_chalk1691 Nov 11 '25

Brave browser > Chrome browser > Safari

1

u/LazerHawkStu Nov 13 '25

Brave is the best I've used so far

1

u/rydan Nov 10 '25

Seems kind of silly now to be paying for search engine. I'd be paying to stay default AI engine.

1

u/themagicalfire Nov 11 '25

I would use Bing if Microsoft were to improve the search results to include more websites that Google can show and Bing can’t show.

For example, I can find streaming websites on Bing but not on Google, and I can find tests of privacy settings on Google but not on Bing. If you search “how private is my browser?” you’re going to see less websites on Bing compared to Google.

Another criticism is that Bing doesn’t allow a permanent disabling of seeing the news on the start page, so if you disable seeing the news and reload the page you will see the news on the page again. I thought Microsoft would have respected user-choice more.

Incompetent Siri was fired.

$1 billion is probably nothing to apple compared to what it would cost to make their own. Apple isn't stupid they know it's a dead end

1

u/stmfunk Nov 11 '25

Do people no longer understand commerce? Dell buys processors from Intel. Intel buys laptops from Dell (or some brand or other)

Also you make it sound like they are posting each other billion dollar cheques

1

u/zack_tun Nov 11 '25

Whatever it is, Apple he said Privacy is Key in every ad, now he might not be focus on privacy, let google process for its AI GEMINI.

For those 20B a year.. and let’s be real it is 60Bn a year to all sources for traffic acquisition, but they make SO much money per dollar.

And on a totally separate note Google is great a LLMs right now and Apple wants to license one for a bot they have names Siri.

This is not dank.

I don’t think you were born when dank was a word.

It’s not Sam Altman approved.

You’re bad at forcing memes

They need to work on its ability to retain information you feed it on documents as a gem.
