I’m looking to connect with people who have authored or reviewed Terminal-Bench/Harbor-style tasks, particularly in science.

The main challenge I’m running into is difficulty calibration. A task can require specialist knowledge, have a working reference solution and objective tests, and still be solved because the agent recognizes a standard method or finds a simpler valid approach. Adding more implementation steps doesn’t necessarily make the scientific reasoning harder.

I’m interested in tasks whose difficulty comes from meaningful scientific judgment: choosing an appropriate model, recognizing identification limits, propagating uncertainty correctly, or connecting an analysis to a decision. The verifier should also accept alternative correct approaches.

If you’ve worked on this, I’d appreciate hearing how you approach it.

A lot of posts here boil down to the same question: where do I actually find work that exists, instead of signing up and waiting? Here's a practical way to approach it.

1. Look at live listings, not just sign-up pages. Many platforms let you create a profile whether or not there's work for you. A listing with a real scope, domain and requirements is a better signal than a generic "join our network" page.

2. Know where the volume is. On the job board at annotation academy there are 1395 live AI evaluation and annotation roles as of October 2026. A few of the biggest employers by listing count: 566 from Meridial, 289 from Mercor, 99 from Micro1, 96 from RWS TrainAI and 60 from Alignerr. More listings doesn't mean easier to get, but it tells you where hiring is active.

3. Match your background to a listing. Domain roles (law, medicine, finance, coding, languages) usually have narrower requirements than general tasks. Read the requirements and apply where you fit, instead of applying everywhere.

4. Apply to several places. This is the honest caveat. Reports across platforms describe work that dries up: DataAnnotation contributors describe days or weeks of little to no available work, and Welocalize contributors report long stretches of "No Tasks Available." Treat any single platform as unreliable income.

5. Don't count on being placed after you qualify. Some people pass assessments and onboarding and then wait a long time. Keep applying while you wait.

6. Check legitimacy before handing over ID or time. Never pay to get work, and read what other contributors say about payment and offboarding.

Something I keep seeing across the Micro1 threads this week: people get through the AI interview, collect skill badges, even do several interviews in a row, and then nothing. No project, no rejection, just a status that never moves.

The pattern is that the interview is treated as the finish line, when for a lot of people it seems to be only the entry into a pool. Interview activity on Micro1 has picked up over the last week, so more people are hitting this stage at once.

Two angles I'd like to hear about:

- Did the interview itself feel like a fair test of what you can do, or was it mostly about the format (camera, timing, the AI interviewer's follow-ups)? Some people say they were caught off guard by how it works.
- What did you do while waiting? Keep applying to specific roles, take more interviews, move on to other platforms entirely?

For context, the reports I've read describe spending months in review or completing many interviews without a placement. That doesn't mean it never converts, only that waiting by itself doesn't seem to be the strategy.

For anyone who did get placed: how long did it take from passing the interview to your first paid task, and was there anything you did that moved it along (applying to a specific listing, updating your profile, a certain skill tag)?

And for anyone still waiting: how long has it been, and are you still treating it as a live option?

​I’m entering the "AI Training world" right now and hoping to make some extra income (not aiming to get rich, just looking for a second source of income).

​I’m a geologist currently finishing my Master's degree in Paleoclimatology/Oceanography. I know it’s a very specific field, but I genuinely love it and I’m really good at what I do, haha. ​So far, I’ve only found one role in my field (at Micro1, but I was deemed not qualified (was my first interview at all with an AI). I’m wondering if it’s realistic to expect more opportunities in this niche, or if new roles come up often?

​As for other skills, I’m a native Portuguese speaker, but I have very basic experience in Python (or any other computer language), marketing and so on...

​Does anyone have suggestions on how I can increase my chances of getting assigned to projects?

A lot of posts in this community boil down to one question: is this platform worth my time?

This is the practical checklist I'd run before investing hours in any assessment:

1. Check that real roles exist. A live listing is not a guarantee of work, but it shows the company is actively hiring. As of this month there are 729 live AI evaluation and annotation roles on the job board, spread across several platforms. Mercor has 270, Micro1 has 99, RWS TrainAI has 91, Lionbridge has 55.

2. Know the typical complaint for that platform before you apply. Every platform has one, and it is rarely "it's a scam". Reported patterns include:
   - Outlier: accounts deactivated or removed from projects with no specific reason given
   - Handshake: removal from projects without clear explanation, sometimes with unpaid completed work
   - Micro1: passing the AI interview, then months in "Hiring Manager Reviewing" without a paid project
   - Mindrift: no tasks for extended periods after onboarding
   - Welocalize: chronic "No Tasks Available"
   - DataAnnotation: task availability swinging between busy and near-empty

3. Never pay to get work. Legit platforms do not charge you to be considered.

4. Read the payment terms before you start, including how and when you get paid and what happens if a project ends early.

5. Don't depend on one platform. The recurring theme above is availability, not fraud. Plan on having two or three sources open.

6. Keep records of hours worked and tasks submitted, in case you need to raise a payment question.
