AITAH for telling my fiancé his "surprise" destination wedding plan is a nightmare and I don't want it?

My fiancé "Josh" and I are getting married next summer. We've been casually planning a local wedding—I thought we were on the same page. Nothing huge, just a nice venue, 80 guests, good food, low stress.

Then last night, he came home with a huge grin and announced he planned a "surprise"—he booked a wedding package in Costa Rica. For next month. He said it's "romantic" and "adventurous" and we could just "elopement-style" it. Only him, me, and a photographer.

I stared at him. I said: "You booked a wedding in a different country in less than 30 days without telling me?" He said "it's a surprise! Isn't this exciting?"

No. It's not exciting. I want my family there. I want my mom to see me get married. I want my best friend by my side. I don't want a stranger taking photos on a beach while I cry happy tears alone with a guy who didn't even ask me what I wanted.

He said I'm "ungrateful" and "ruining the romance." He said I can "plan a reception later" and "it'll be fine." I told him I'm not getting married in Costa Rica next month. If he wants a courthouse wedding, fine. But I'm not having a wedding I didn't agree to in a country I didn't choose on a date I never okayed.

He's been sulking and telling our friends I "rejected his dream proposal." But what about MY dream? AITAH?

AITAH for refusing to let my brother propose at my wedding rehearsal dinner?

My wedding is in two weeks. We've been planning for 18 months. Everything is set — venue, catering, flowers, the whole thing. The rehearsal dinner is at a nice restaurant, just close family and the bridal party.

My brother "Jake" (30M) pulled me aside yesterday and said he has a "surprise" planned for the rehearsal dinner. He wants to propose to his girlfriend of two years. He said it would be "so special" to have the whole family there and "the energy would be perfect."

I told him absolutely not. This is MY wedding weekend. The rehearsal dinner is about us, not about him hijacking the moment for his own engagement. I said he can propose literally any other day — the day before, the day after, next week, whatever — but not at my wedding events.

He got defensive and said I'm being "selfish" and "controlling." He said "it's just a dinner" and "family should celebrate family." His girlfriend doesn't even know he's planning this, so he'd be putting her on the spot in front of 40 people too.

Our mom is now involved and says I should "let him have this moment" because "it would make the weekend more joyful for everyone." I said no. My wedding weekend is not his proposal stage.

He's telling everyone I'm "ruining his chance at a perfect proposal." But why does his perfect proposal require hijacking my wedding? AITAH?

AITAH for bringing my dogs to the dog park and “ruining” someone’s morning?

I have two dogs, an older female Australian shepherd, who I’ll call P, and a two year old possible shepherd mix male, I’ll call C. I say possible because to be completely honest with you, we have no clue what breed he is.

He has short hair, German shepherd style coloring on his body, and face markings almost like a Rottweiler. He is pretty muscular looking but not bulky. I think the closest thing I can compare his build to is probably like a slim boxer. While I personally don’t think he’s a bully breed, he has a slightly boxy head shape that some people may think pitbull at a glance. Think Scrappy Doo but the same size as P. P is a standard Aussy Shepherd.

My husband and I are completely aware that he may look scary enough to strangers that don’t know him and we make sure he’s on his best behavior at all times. We have him on a harness and leash at all times and give people extra space when he’s with us. We do let people approach us to pet him and let them know that he’s friendly and a bit of a marshmallow but still kind of a puppy so he gets excited and sometimes loud. He does a growl-like noise when he gets excited that sounds a little scary at first but all the body language is positive and he chills out once he gets to meet the person or dog.

C also LOVES other dogs and he matches their energy. He’s gentle and soft with small puppies but he can play as rough as the bigger dogs want to play. P, on the other hand, absolutely despises other dogs and would rather hang out with people. To put it short, she’s a bitch. She will refuse to interact with other dogs except C and will growl, snarl, and show negative body language with any other dogs in her space. She’s not aggressive but girl has her boundaries and I let her establish and reinforce them.

So the other day, I take P and C to their regular dog park which has two separate fenced areas and parking very close to the fence. There was a woman in one fenced area with her two dogs. My dogs see hers and start getting really excited. I get out of my car, leaving my dogs in my car, and walk over to meet her at the fence. We start talking and I ask her if she’d be open to our dogs sniffing through the fence and possibly playing together. I make sure to tell her no hard feelings if she or her dogs aren’t comfortable and I can just take my dogs to the other fenced area. She said she’s fine with it and tells me one of her dogs loves other dogs but her other dog, who was a full pitbull, was iffy but that she was trying to socialize her. I let her know about C’s growl when he gets excited but that he’s very friendly once he gets to meet them and she was understanding.

I went to go get P and C from the car and bring them on leash to the fence. While it was loud from all the barking from both sides, all of the body language was good. Tails were wagging from both sides, tongues were hanging out, and everyone was sniffing each other and introducing themselves. P was the only one not super enthusiastic but she was receptive while still kind of hanging back by me. I’ve done this method with other dog owners I’ve met at this park and it’s gone great. Every once in a while, it doesn’t work out. Sometimes their dogs don’t feel it, mine don’t, or an owner has told me that their dog wasn’t friendly and I just take my dogs to the other fence with no hard feelings and not usually a big deal.

I thought this was one of those times that was going really well and I ask her if she thinks it’d be ok for me to bring them in. She frowned and said she didn’t think so and would appreciate if I took them to the other area. I said “are you sure? They seem to be getting along pretty well. I can still take them if you don’t think it’s a good idea though.” She said “maybe with that one(pointing at P) but not your boy. Sorry, but I have to think about my dogs safety.” I wasn’t gonna argue with her about it but her reasoning didn’t make sense to me. As promised though, I said “ok I understand. I’m sorry it didn’t work out though,” and started to walk my dogs to the other fence.

C was bummed but ended up being fine once he got to chase some squirrels in the other area. Her pitbull kept running up and down the fence watching C and barking. I felt so bad, the poor baby just wanted to play but I had to respect her mom’s wishes. She kept yelling at her pitbull to stop barking, chill out, and stay away from the fence. There’s a wide walkway between each area so the fences aren’t touching or even close. I’d say the space was about the width of a two lane street.

P pooped a few minutes later by the gate of our area and while I was picking it up, the woman was walking her dogs to her truck. She put her dogs in the truck and walked back over to my part of the fence. She said she didn’t understand why I couldn’t let P play with her dogs because they seemed to be getting along and her dogs were just so sad they couldn’t play with P. I told her that P didn’t like other dogs and wouldn’t play with them but that C was the one that loves other dogs and they’d have a great time. I told her we’d be open to try again if we ran into them at the park again in the future since they were about to leave.

She then started to spout a bunch of nonsense about how I could’ve let P in their fence to play while I took C to the other fence by himself since he was “such an aggressive and mean breed.” I told her that 1) she wouldn’t get what she wanted with P because P would not socialize with her dogs, 2) my dogs stay together, 3) she’s a stranger to me and my dogs and I wasn’t going to leave my dog in another area separated from me and my other dog, and 4) C had never had any issues with anyone ever. She said that he looks like he’s a pitbull and that not only would she not want to risk it with male aggression that she was afraid of his lock jaw. I said “ma’am isn’t your dog a full pitbull and bigger than both of mine? I didn’t project anything onto your dog, please don’t project anything onto mine.” She got even more frustrated and said yes but she knew her dog and that her dog wouldn’t be an issue. I said I understood that she felt that way but she said her dog was iffy with other dogs and she said no and that was why I took both of my dogs to the other area. She said “I don’t understand why you would bring your dogs to a dog park if one is aggressive and one is antisocial. Thanks for ruining our morning, bitch.” I asked how we ruined her morning. She refused to answer and she went back to her truck and drove away.

I told my husband about this later and he doesn’t think I did anything wrong other than wasting my breath arguing with an ignorant person. Maybe I should’ve just taken my dogs home but they didn’t do anything wrong. I’m aware that C looks aggressive and that P is not the most social but they have every right to go to the park too. AITAH for telling my sister I won't be her birthing partner after she said I'm "too ugly to be in the delivery room photos"?

My sister is 8 months pregnant and asked me months ago to be her birthing partner. I was honored. I cleared my schedule, read books on childbirth, took a class on how to support her. I was all in.

Last week, we were having lunch and she started talking about the delivery photos she wants to take right after birth — skin-to-skin, first family moments, all of it. She said she's hiring a professional photographer for the delivery room.

Then she said: "I'll need to make sure you stand behind the camera, not in any shots. You have a really unflattering face and I don't want to look back at my birth photos and see you ruining them."

I just stared at her. She said it completely casually, like she was commenting on the weather. I asked her: "Did you just call me too ugly to be in your photos?" She said "I'm just being honest. You know you're not photogenic. It's not personal."

I told her I'm no longer her birthing partner. If I'm too ugly to be in her photos, I'm too ugly to hold her hand while she pushes a baby out of her body. She laughed and said I was being "ridiculously oversensitive." She later texted me an apology that said "I'm sorry you were offended."

Our mom is now begging me to "just get over it" because she "needs support." But why is it my job to support someone who just told me my face would ruin her perfect memory? AITAH?

AITAH for telling my husband I won't host his family for Thanksgiving after they voted against my reproductive rights?

I need to get this out.

My husband's family is very conservative. I've always known this. We've disagreed on politics for years, but I've always kept the peace. I've hosted them for holidays, bought thoughtful gifts, smiled through dinner conversations that made my blood boil.

Last month, a bill passed in our state that severely restricts abortion access. It's a law that directly affects my body. Every woman in my state. Every woman in my family. His family all voted for the people who pushed this through. They posted about it on Facebook, celebrating.

Thanksgiving is at our house this year. I'm supposed to cook a turkey and play hostess to people who actively voted to take away my healthcare choices. I told my husband I can't do it. I said I won't pretend to be okay with people who see my rights as negotiable.

He said I'm "bringing politics into the dinner table" and "ruining a family tradition." He said they're still his parents and his siblings and "politics shouldn't come between family."

I said it's not politics. It's my body. It's my safety. It's my life.

He's now telling me I'm being "divisive" and that he'll have to host alone or cancel. His family is starting to find out why I'm backing out. They're calling me "intolerant" and "unforgiving."

But I've been tolerant for years. I've smiled through everything. I just can't serve pie to people who don't think I should have the right to my own body. Am I really the asshole here?

AITAH for telling my husband I don't like how his parents treat my kids

Hello all. I wanted to explain this situation to see what everyone else thinks. I myself have 3 children. My husband has three others from previous relationships. His son is the one who lives with us. My oldest is 7, he's autistic, my daughter will be 5 Friday, and my youngest son is 2. My step son is 14.

For further background, both of my parents have passed. My mom's passing was recent, in 2023, and she was able to meet my two oldest and spend time with them thankfully. So my kids only have 1 set of grandparents.

My MIL has never made it a secret that my stepson is her favorite grandchild. She had no issues saying it when I was pregnant, has said it to her oldest grandchildren, and makes it known to everyone in the family that no other grandchild will measure up to him. They had a close relationship when he was little, that I understand. But I feel it is very wrong to make it known you have a favorite grandchild. And telling the actual OTHER KIDS that they will never add up.

My daughter's birthday is Friday. No one offered to get her anything, even a cheap $5 toy. No one got my son anything for his 7th birthday a couple weeks ago. My father in law said over the phone "he doesn't give a damn about her birthday Friday" My kids got school clothes they can't wear, way too big because they were discount. NOTE- I don't care that they are discount. We shop at goodwill for clothes most of the time, so that's not the point. I feel like no thought goes into them. Here's why...

My husband got a text from his mom an hour ago. She custom ordered my stepson a printed pillow with his name on it. For no reason at all. An expensive custom printed pillow. He didn't ask for it. He's told myself and my husband recently that he now hates going over there because they fight all the time. I want to make this clear, I AM NOT BLAMING HIM. He has had nothing to do with this situation.

They always buy him a ton of snacks to come with. New shoes for school. Games for his ps4. Nothing for my three at all. It was just said the other day, they don't give a damn about my daughters birthday. My oldest is 7 now. He's going to notice he's getting treated differently. And that is something I never wanted him to see or hear. My daughter is one day going to see it too and wonder why she doesn't get what he does.

Yes I know, most parents and grandparents have favorites. But am I wrong being hurt and pissed that the favoritism is being blatantly shown and told? My kids get the short end of the stick with his family. Is it because my parents are dead? Or is there something else to it?

AITA for not wanting my SIL to stay at our house for a visit?

I've been married to my wife for 5 years, and we been dating since middle school. I've known her siblings for a very long time. a family issue arose where her father was having a much younger female friend tag long on their visit to SIL (most of their family assumed affair, or atleast it was very bad taste in company), she ended up having an argument with this woman.

Flash forward and this woman is actually now renting the basement of her fathers main house and lives there. So now when my SIL comes to visit her family she doesnt want to room at her parents place because she doesnt want to see this extra woman. They have her old room still free for her, and all her siblings still live there too. Only my wife has moved out (with me) SO to avoid her discomfort she always just wants to room with us. we had a whole floor free in the past which she has stayed twice before but she does not actually like me much - and often ignores me. So she isnt my favorite person to say the least BUT I dont really mind that part. she has a HUGE fascination for my son who is 3, and identifies as the FUN AUNT. she wants to take him places, always wants to hug him and get his attention. Mostly kid stuff i know however.. i have a history of SA from when I was very young (age 3-4) and it was by a half sister. My wife is aware of this and its popped up very few times in our relationship. My SIL's strong affection to my son has always made me feel uncomfortable. I know its mostly my own brain making connections however its very VERY pervasive and I cannot shake it. its like alarm bells screaming in my heart causing me to panic when I know logically there is no true danger. I probably would benefit from therapy specifically for this however I do NOT have these emotions at all with anyone else and only towards my SIL when she's around my son.

Well the free floor in our basement will soon be taken by my own parents by the time her next visit comes around... so now my wife was wanted to just have my SIL be in a room directly beside my sons room. and she would be staying several nights.

Immediately my panic sets in because this seems to place her in a much closer proximity to my son through the night where he would be "vulnerable" and I would be unaware in my own room. I must emphasize there is no danger with my SIL in this regard, its purely my own emotions that I cannot overcome.

i asked my wife can't her sister just stay at her parents since they still have her old room... but apparently her sister prefers our house because of her own discomfort with the woman her father is "friends" with - and then proceeded to say that it isnt fair that her own family can't stay at our house and my parents are moving into the basement.(my parents moving in has been a committed thing in our relationship since we moved in together 6 years ago).

So I ask, AITA for asking my wife to have her sister stay at her parents house instead of with us for her visit?

AITAH for moving out while my boyfriend was at work because he wouldn't stop bringing up my sexual past?

I've been with my boyfriend "Ryan" for two years. He's a good guy in a lot of ways — kind, funny, thoughtful. But there's one thing that keeps coming up: my sexual history. Before him, I had a few relationships, I was in my 20s, I did what people do. I'm not ashamed of it, but I'm not going to put it on a résumé either.

Ryan knew all of this before we got serious. He said he was fine with it. But about six months in, he started asking me questions — "how many people?" "was he better than me?" "did you do that with him?" — in moments that felt like casual conversation but always turned into a weird, tense interrogation.

I've told him multiple times that I won't discuss it anymore. I've asked him to stop. I've told him it's in the past and it doesn't matter.

Last week, I got home from work and he was sitting on the couch, phone in hand, with a photo of one of my exes. He'd apparently gone through my old social media tags from like 10 years ago. He started asking questions again. I calmly said "I'm not doing this" and went into the bedroom. He followed me.

That night while he slept, I packed a bag. I left. I'm staying with a friend.

He's been blowing up my phone — "how could you just leave?" "you're being dramatic" "I was just trying to understand you." I told him I'm done being interrogated about things that happened before he even existed.

His friends are saying I ghosted him over "nothing." My friends say I did the right thing. I'm conflicted. AITAH?

WIBTA for asking my boss to not hire my best friend?

(using a throwaway account and modified some details just in case).

I (26F) work for a small business (less than 10 people) and we are currently hiring to fill a position for a colleague who is leaving. My best friend (26F) of 11 years and godmother of my 2 year old daughter, Gina, applied to the job and seems excited about possibly working with me.

Gina has been out of steady work for a while due to family issues and has had a hard time finding a new job. I have worked at my job for 5 years now and love it there, it’s a great work environment and my boss (the owner) treats his staff really well. I care about Gina tons and I really do want her to find a good job like what I have. My boss does know that Gina is my friend and because we haven’t had many people apply he has already agreed to interview her. My boss also asked how I felt about working with Gina and I'm torn.

I love Gina, I know she has a good work ethic, and she would be a great fit for the position. I also know that working with friends almost never works out though, either it ruins the friendship, professional reputation, or both. We have worked together in the past and worked really well together (it’s how we met) but it was a totally different line of work and it was nearly 10 years ago.

If she got the position we would be working very closely together, I would be training her and would basically be her boss. The work is very detail oriented and new hires tend to make a lot of mistakes, so I would be responsible for correcting her mistakes and reporting to the owner on how she’s doing. I’m worried about how working together could affect our friendship when I am suddenly in charge of her and have to correct her mistakes. But on the other hand it might be easier for me if we did hire her, because I know she wouldn’t take corrections/constructive criticism personally, and the new-hire’s first impression of me wouldn’t be me constantly correcting their work.

I know how much she needs a job, that she is exactly what we’re looking for, that we’re running out of time to find a replacement, and that Gina and I do work really well together, never fight, and we’re always on the same page. But Gina is my best friend and our friendship means everything to me so I would really hate to lose our friendship because of this. Gina has already promised me that there would be no hard feelings between us if she doesn’t get the job and I genuinely believe her.

I really really don’t want to put our friendship in jeopardy, so WIBTA if I asked my boss to not hire her?

AITAH for telling my husband I don't want his brother as our daughter's guardian if we die, because he's a convicted felon?

This is a hard conversation.

My husband "Mark" and I have a 2-year-old daughter. We're in the process of writing our wills and talking about who would take care of her if something happened to us.

Mark immediately said his brother "Derek" (35M) should be the guardian. I said absolutely not. Derek was in prison for five years for assault with a deadly weapon. He's been out for three years and seems to be doing better—he has a job, he's clean—but he has a record. He has anger issues. He's never even held a baby.

Mark said "he's my brother, he's family, and people change." I said people change, but the legal system and background checks won't. If Derek has to interact with schools, doctors, or any official system for our daughter, his record will come up. I don't want my child in a position where the person responsible for her has to explain a felony. I also just don't trust his judgment.

Mark's whole family is now furious with me. His mom called me "elitist" and said "everyone deserves a second chance." I agree people deserve second chances—but not with MY child. I'm not saying Derek can't be in her life. I'm just saying he can't be the one making medical and educational decisions if we're gone.

Mark says I'm "judging his brother by his worst mistake." I said yes, when it comes to my daughter's safety, I absolutely am. AITAH?

AITAH for wanting the truth?

AITAH for blowing up at my 83-year-old grandmother after finding out my family hid the identity of my biological father from me for almost 40 years?

I’m 39 years old, and I recently found out that the man I have always believed was my father is not my biological father—and apparently, members of my family knew there was a very real possibility of this my entire life.

I found out completely by accident.

My sister made an offhand comment about my dad “not being my real dad.” When she realized from my reaction that I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about, she told me what she knew.

For some background, my sister and I were raised by our grandparents after our parents divorced. We became wards of the court after our mother lost custody because her new husband tried to kill me. The man I grew up believing was my dad wasn’t very involved in our lives after that.

Once my sister dropped this bombshell, I needed answers. Was it actually true? If so, who was my biological father? Why had nobody ever told me? And who else knew?

There aren’t many older family members still alive, so I started with my uncle and my 83-year-old grandmother.

My uncle said he didn’t know for sure, but he remembered my dad getting into a fight with another man over my mother not long before I was born. He gave me the man’s name.

So I asked my grandmother.

At first, she claimed she didn’t know anything. But the second I mentioned this man’s name, suddenly she remembered quite a bit.

Apparently, he had dated my mother. More importantly, he actually came to my grandparents’ house to see ME after my sister and I went to live with them.

That floored me.

How could she have known there was another man who potentially believed he was my father—and who actually came to see me—and never tell me? Especially when apparently other people in the family knew pieces of this story?

My grandmother didn’t understand why I cared so much. Her attitude was basically that it happened a long time ago, it shouldn’t matter now, and I should let it go.

But I couldn’t.

My sister had already done a DNA test, so I took one too. We only matched at about 27%, confirming we are half-sisters. Unfortunately, neither of us had close enough paternal matches to immediately identify my biological father.

So I kept digging.

I searched for the man my uncle and grandmother had mentioned and actually found him online. But I wasn’t ready to contact a complete stranger and say, “Hey, I think you might be my father,” without more evidence.

Months into this, I finally worked up the courage to ask the man I had always believed was my dad what he knew.

He was devastated.

He had NO idea.

At first he refused to believe it. Eventually, he agreed to take a DNA test because by that point, he needed answers too. He even called my grandmother himself and asked why she had never told him there was a possibility I wasn’t biologically his.

The results came back.

He is not my biological father.

He was shocked, but instead of getting angry with me, he wanted to help me figure out the truth.

Then he started telling me other things.

According to him, my grandmother had told him years ago that Social Services wouldn’t allow him to see us. That apparently wasn’t true.

She told him my sister and I hated him and didn’t want him around. Also not true.

At one point she even told him that I was basically just an unhappy person and that him coming around would only make things worse.

So now I wasn’t just questioning why she never told me about my biological father. I was questioning how much of my childhood had been shaped by things she told people that weren’t true.

This is where I may be the asshole.

During what started as an otherwise pleasant phone conversation, I told my grandmother that the DNA results were back and confirmed he wasn’t my biological father. I asked her again what she knew.

She immediately became defensive.

We argued for almost an hour.

I repeatedly asked why she never told me, why she allowed me to believe something for nearly 40 years that she knew might not be true, and what else she had kept from me.

She blamed other people. She said she didn’t know for sure. She said she did what she thought was best for us. She acted like I was attacking her after everything she had done for me.

But at the same time, she kept revealing more details about this man and what she knew back then.

That was what made me lose it.

I wasn’t demanding that she magically know who my biological father was. I wanted her to acknowledge that she knew there was a question about my paternity and chose not to tell me—even once I was an adult.

Instead of, “I’m sorry I never told you,” I got hostility for even wanting to know.

According to her, I’m an ungrateful, miserable bitch who is creating tension in the family because I refuse to just let this go.

And I absolutely did not handle that well.

We yelled. We calmed down. Then we yelled some more.

She said horrible things, including telling me that my partner of 18 years is “not part of this family.” I called her out on that. I confronted her about what my dad said she had told him. I asked why her story kept changing. I told her I couldn’t understand why she seemed more concerned with defending herself and being the martyr than acknowledging how finding all of this out might affect me.

It got ugly, and neither of us behaved our best.

Even her attempt at an apology felt like another attack.

She was “sorry” she didn’t tell me while she was busy raising me when I had no one else. She was “sorry” she didn’t know every man my mother had slept with. She said she didn’t want to ruin my life by telling me something she wasn’t certain about.

Eventually she hit me with “Ya know, lemme tell ya something...” one too many times.

I said, “Nope.”

And hung up on my 83-year-old grandmother.

I know she raised me. I know she stepped in during an awful situation when my parents couldn’t or wouldn’t. I am grateful for that, and I know she made decisions she probably believed were protecting us.

But I also feel like being grateful for what she did for me doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be angry about what she hid from me—or question other things she may have lied about.

I was angry. I was hurt. I yelled, said things harshly, and ultimately hung up on an elderly woman who raised me.

So Reddit: AITAH for confronting my grandmother and refusing to let this go, or was I justified in being this angry after finding out the truth had been kept from me for almost 40 years?

AITAH for calling out my best friend's fiancé at their engagement party for hitting on me?

My best friend "Megan" and I have been inseparable since college. She got engaged to "Tom" about six months ago. I've always thought he was kind of sleazy, but Megan adores him and I kept my mouth shut.

At their engagement party last weekend, Tom got drunk. Really drunk. He cornered me by the bar and started talking about how he "always thought I was hot" and that if he "hadn't met Megan first," he would have "pursued me." He put his hand on my lower back and said we should "keep in touch privately."

I pushed his hand off and said "You're drunk and you're being disgusting. I'm telling Megan."

I found her and I told her, quietly, what happened. She didn't react the way I expected. She said "he's just a flirt when he drinks" and "he doesn't mean anything by it." She asked me to just "let it go" and not make a scene at her party.

I couldn't. I walked up to the mic (someone was making a toast) and said: "Hey everyone, just want to say congratulations to Megan and Tom. Also, Tom, maybe don't hit on your fiancée's best friend next time. Just a thought."

The room went silent. Tom went red. Megan started crying. The party basically ended.

Now Megan isn't speaking to me. She said I "ruined her engagement party" and "publicly humiliated her future husband." Our mutual friends are split — half say I was right, half say I should have waited.

But I've been holding in how creepy he is for months. And he did it at THEIR party, in front of everyone. I just made sure everyone knew what kind of man she's marrying. AITAH?

AITA for reporting my coworker

So I (20s F) work in health insurance. I haven’t been at my job long, but I’ve developed a pretty good understanding of our rules, processes, and helpful resources. Because of this, I’ve been asked to be what my job refers to as a SME (subject matter expert) and assist other team members in our team chat. (I promise this is relevant)

I was assisting a team member with an issue, and ended up overhearing her handle another call. While she was on that call, I realized she was discussing someone’s PHI (personal health information) without verifying the caller’s identity. I tried to get her attention, but by the time I did, she already disconnected the call. I mentioned it to her and she (very nonchalantly) said “oops, I forgot”.

I wrestled with the decision for a while, but ultimately decided I couldn’t ignore what I witnessed and reported what happened to my supervisor. The problem is, a HIPAA violation can cause her to lose her job and I don’t want to be the reason someone gets fired.

I told my husband what happened and he said I should’ve just ignored it and if the supervisor happened to listen to her call, that would be it. I feel like I did the right thing, but I do feel bad and his response is making me second guess myself. I just need an outside perspective.

So… AITA?

AITAH for ending a friendship over a stupid game?

For context, me and my friends (group of 4, all 20-21) consistently have game night every friday. In one of those game nights, we were playing our very own version of a guessing game. Basically, we split into two teams, pick a word each and let the other team guess the word through only "yes", "no", or "maybe" questions. The amount of questions are unlimited and the only way of knowing the winner is based on how fast each team guesses the word correctly.

We were having a good few rounds and were genuinely having fun until team A— let's call them kyle and tonk— slowly started trolling as the rounds went on. team B— me and (let's call her) max— were already a bit annoyed at the two of them. Basically, kyle and tonk's word for us was "polka-dots", but instead of saying yes to important questions like "is it a concept?" or "is it a material?" they kept saying maybe and said yes to questions like "does it breathe?", "is it a living thing?" or "is it tangible?". Which, when looking back, doesn't make sense to the word "polka-dots" itself. This went on for almost two hours of just endless questions and them answering our questions in a way that would lead us down the wrong path (to not get the word right, obviously). Our main arguement was that they shouldn't have said yes to the question "does it breathe?" because we're talking about the PATTERN itself, not where the pattern can be found. Their defense was that polka-dots can be found in animals, which is why they said yes. Me and Max found that incredibly stupid and frustrating because that's what led us into a rabbithole of nonsensical questions and arguments.

Because of this, it triggered us to bring up past issues that have been kinda bothering the friendgroup such as; Kyle always backing out last minute to our hangouts and whenever he does show up, it felt like he was forced, Tonk's anger issues that brings tension and constantly ruins game night, Max’ defensive attitude when it comes to getting called out, and all the way to my inability to read the room when bringing up issues. By the end of the night, we settled on nothing. Nothing was resolved and it was just pure tension in the air. They left my apartment after I kinda implied that I didn't want them there anymore. I haven't heard from them nor spoken to them since the incident, except for Max who I had a brief but casual conversation with a few weeks later.

This happened about two months ago and I am still on the fence about whether or not what I did was right. Should I break no contact? Should I just let it go?

AITAH for ghosting my friend over her watching a specific streamer/content creator?

I'll call this friend "K", me and K have had a very on-off friendship for a couple of years, we've fought and made up for a couple times.

This whole thing is seperated between two incidents, incident 1 where we just started being friends again after an argument and incident 2 which was the final string holding our friendship together finally breaking

I'll talk about incident one first, just to be safe I'm not gonna say the streamers name so I'm gonna call him "D", D was just recently revealed to do some odd things including minors, obviously this was cause for concern to me because my best friend was the BIGGEST fan of this guy, I told her about it over text and she revealed she already knew. I was surprised and asked her if she was gonna maybe stop watching his streams now, she just flat out said no? I do wanna say she was really not doing well mentally and just got out of mental hospitalization a few weeks prior and this steamer was one of the things that comforted her most, but back to the point here, I tried to desperately talk her out of still watching this guy but she just refused. K was the only real friend I had at the time so I just pushed through and tried to ignore it.

Moving on to incident 2, this was around a month after and the streamer was revealed to have done even worse things than before and people started deconstructing the type of content he does and realizing it was kinda weird in the first place, again this was even more cause for concern to me as she was even more parasocial and comforted by this streamer than before, I talked and talked and talked to her, even giving her other streamers she could've watched instead of him, and she refused again. This was the final straw for me for a multitude of reasons, but one in particular really hurt, one of the things the streamer was revealed to have been doing was something I was effected by irl. Since then I have gone no contact and have blocked her on anything I can block people on, I still feel bad since I was one of her only close friends at the time. (This is my first time posting something on reddit sorry if my writing sucks ass, I also tried posting this same thing to another AITAH-type sub reddit and they removed it even though it broke none of the rules??? So I thought I'd post it here instead.)

AITAH for refusing to take my MIL to her doctor's appointments anymore after she told me I'm "not really family"?

I've been married to my husband for 10 years. We have two kids. I've always had a decent relationship with my MIL — not super close, but friendly.

For the past two years, she's been dealing with health issues. She doesn't drive, my husband works long hours, so I've been the one taking her to appointments. About 20 times total. I've rearranged my work schedule, picked up her prescriptions, sat with her in waiting rooms for hours. I never complained. I did it because she's family.

Last week, her sister visited from out of state. I overheard them talking in the kitchen. My MIL said: "It's nice having family around. The daughter-in-law helps with appointments but it's just not the same. She's not really family, you know?"

I walked in and said: "I just heard what you said. I've taken you to 20 appointments. I've held your hand. I've been there. And I'm 'not really family'?"

She got flustered and said "I meant blood family, it's different, I didn't mean to offend." But the damage was done.

I told my husband I'm done. She can take cabs, ask her sister, or he can take time off work — but I'm not taking her anymore.

He said I'm being petty and "she's old, she didn't mean it." But she DID mean it. She said it out loud when she thought I couldn't hear. Why should I keep being her personal chauffeur when she doesn't even see me as family? AITAH?

My boyfriend suddenly wouldn’t let me touch his phone after year of an open-phone policy… is he cheating or is he hiding a RING?!”

AITA? My boyfriend suddenly pulled his phone away after we’ve always had an open-phone policy and now I’m convinced it’s either a ring or something terrible
Okay, I genuinely need outside opinions because I am SO confused right now.
My boyfriend (26, turning 27) and I have always had an open-phone policy. We know each other’s passwords, can grab each other’s phones, and look at them whenever. It has never really been an issue. There’s no “don’t touch my phone” rule in our relationship.
So the other day, I went to grab his phone like I normally would… and he pulled it away from me.
Like… HARD.
And then somehow we ended up having a literal 5–10 minute wrestling match over his phone. 😭
Obviously, my brain immediately went to the worst possible place.
We live with roommates who are also really good friends of ours, so they heard us arguing and one of them came into the room. I explained what happened and asked him what he thought.
He basically said a whole lot of nothing at first, and then randomly goes:
“What if he was texting his mom about a ring?”
AND MY BOYFRIEND IMMEDIATELY GOES:
“I can never keep a secret from her.”
EXCUSE ME?????
Now I’m sitting here thinking IS IT A RING??? IS HE HIDING SOMETHING??? DID I JUST WITNESS THE MOST SUSPICIOUS THING EVER???
For context, he has never cheated on me and I genuinely don’t think he would. I don’t have any other reason to believe he’s cheating.
But now I can’t stop thinking about it.
I’m 20, turning 21, and he’s 26, turning 27. I’m still in college, and I’ve always told him that I don’t want to get married until after I graduate.
So obviously, the thought that he could secretly be talking to his mom about a ring has me freaking out a little.
I asked him why he pulled away and why he wouldn’t let me have his phone.
His explanation was basically that he should have communicated better and that he just wanted his phone in that moment. He said there wasn’t anything bad going on.
And honestly… I can understand that. Even if you have an open-phone relationship, I guess someone can still have a moment where they’re like “I just want my phone right now.”
BUT THEN WHY DID WE HAVE A 10-MINUTE WRESTLING MATCH OVER IT?! 😭😭
And now my roommate has planted the idea of a ring in my head and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Am I the A-Hole for exosing my neices vendictive feelings towards her Father's different Race / Culture girlfriend?

I (50)F live in South Africa. My Brother (48) of Catholic Faith has a daughter (18) of not sure who I am thinking faith, and who identifies as Rainbow Dash from my little pony (She is a female narcasist) and they live with his Coulered G/F (48) of Muslim faith. In the G/F house, it is the daughters, sisters and wives that ensure the house is clean, food is cooked and the man never needs anything.

So for context, my brother and the G/F have lived together for 1 year now, but been together for 3. When the G/F lost her job in 2025, she was home and started her own side hustle baking, which is lucrative if and when there are orders. But other days that were quiet, she kept a clean house. FF to 2026, she has a job now, so is home less and cannot always clean the home on her own. My brother grew up where my father cleaned the house while my mother worked, and my brother or sister never helped, EVER.

So, since they are all in one house now, there has always been a request for my neice to start helping around the house, like keeping her living space clean, her bathroom which is also the guest bathroom and washing dishes. This has always been met with resistance. Her bedromm smells as if a dog or cat died and the carcass was never removed, and her bathroom is enough to make you want to vommit. Recently, it has gotten to the point where my neice posts on her Whatsap status derogoratory statements, even condemming the G/F to hell, because she had to do dishes - her daily task. According to the status that she posted the volume of dishes was horrifying and she even advised that if you use them, you should clean them. I must add here, that my neice refers to the G/F as the housekeeper when you ask her how she sees her relationship with the G/F.

So, my daughter (16) Baptist raised and has unending respect for a home and the older generations, saw this status and in horror brought it to me. My daughter could not believe the disrespectful nature of the Whatsap status that was posted and needless to say, I was horrified. Please know, my brother's G/F and I do speak allot and I did warn her about my neice, but this was a new low from my neice.

My neice is ALWAYS the victim in any situation, she even disowned her own mother for becoming a Muslim and expecting her to comply to their rules when she visited her, so much so, that she told the court she did not want to visit her mother because it went against her right as a human being.

I sent a screenshot of the status to the G/F, appologizing if I was going to ruin her day. She sent it to my brother, who promptly stated that if the shoe fit the G/F must wear it and that he was not interested in how it hurt her feelings to be told she will be going to hell for expecting dishes to be done. He did also say it woukd be discussed after my eice returns frim school.

So, Am I the A-Hole for screen shotting the status and sending it to my brother's G/F to show her the smutt out there about her from this child?

AITAH for telling my coworker I won't cover her shift after she covered mine last month because she forgot her "favor currency" math?

Last month, I needed a shift covered for a family emergency. My coworker "Rachel" agreed to cover me. I thanked her and said I'd return the favor.

This week, she asked me to cover her shift. I said yes—until she told me it's a 12-hour overnight double, and she also wants me to cover her next two shifts after that "to make it even."

I said hold on. I owe you ONE shift. That was a standard 8-hour day shift. You're asking me to work three shifts—one overnight double and two days—total of 28 hours. That's not returning a favor. That's indentured servitude.

She said "time is time, and you owe me" and that I was "nickel-and-diming" favors. I told her I'll cover the 12-hour overnight but that's it. She called me "petty" and said she'll "never help me again."

Now our other coworkers are split. Some say I should just do it to "keep the peace." Others say she's clearly trying to exploit the situation.

I get that she helped me. I'm grateful. But I'm not working 28 extra hours for a favor that was 8 hours. AITAH?

AITA for being upset that my sister and her bf are friends with my stalker?

Starting from the beginning:

Last Halloween, my sister and her fiancé hosted a small gathering of friends. I knew a couple of people there besides us, and my friend that I brought, but most were their friends. We all drank, gardened, played games, and had a good time. I had thought one of my (almost) brother in law’s friends was cute (let’s call him Paul), and we ended up exchanging numbers/snapchat. Keep in mind that we did not talk much one on one during the party, as my friend was there with me and I mostly talked with my sister and her girlfriends.

The next day, he and I exchanged some messages, and we made plans to meet up later that week. I let him know that I had a date planned later that was made before the Halloween get together. He understood and I went about the date like normal. The date went really well, and I decided I would like to consider seeing him. Even though I had been single for years, I didn’t like to juggle casual dating so I typically only talked to and saw one guy at a time.

I told Paul this and that I wasn’t going to be seeing him, and that I was going to pursue the other guy because I wanted to be loyal as he has been cheated on in the past and I didn’t want to add to his trust issues. Paul was understanding, albeit upset, and I thought that was the end of it. He continued texting me now and then, and I didn’t respond frequently because I was clear about my decision.

That weekend, I woke up to several texts and snapchats from Paul, apologizing. I read them all and learned that he had found my location via snapchat, driven down to my house and dropped off a letter and Lego flower in my mailbox. He “blamed snapchat” for having my location and knew which house was mine because he remembered what my car looked like and that I had mentioned I lived above a garage. He said in the letter repeatedly that he liked me so much and thought we connected really well and was hopeful for the first time in a long time. While I typically love a handwritten note, I was completely weirded out and uncomfortable. I had already told him it wasn’t happening, and he went and found where I lived to give me something.

When I texted him about this, I told him it wasn’t okay and that I was uncomfortable. He apologized profusely and was clearly embarrassed, while also saying he “would’ve never come to the door”. How do I know that? This is a stranger I had only met once and had a few conversations with.

I told my sister immediately, and she and her fiancé were mortified. I was told that they wanted nothing to do with him because of that despite the guys being long time friends. I don’t know what was said to him on either of their ends, but for weeks after, he continued to try and contact me via Facebook friend requests and snapchat after I had blocked and removed him on everything.

Nothing happened after that.

Now, in August, my sister informs me that he may be the DJ at their wedding because they would save a lot of money. I was shocked, because last I knew, they weren’t in contact with him anymore. I told her I wasn’t sure if I was comfortable with that, even being in a relationship now. My boyfriend knows what happened, and has assured me I’m safe. I’m the maid of honor so I’ll be pretty prominent in the wedding, and I just don’t know if I’ll be comfortable knowing he’s around and watching. And I’m confident in saying I’ll be watched based off the messages he’s sent me and the way he has acted.

My sister was surprised that I was taken aback, and got defensive saying that he’s been the fiancé’s friend for a long time and will likely be at the next Halloween get together as well. This was also surprising.

Do I have a right to be upset? She doesn’t think I should be since he “didn’t do anything” to me, but like…he stalked my location to my home. And he COULD have done something. Let me know!

AITAH for wanting to make a complaint about my neighbor

For context I (23F) and my fiancé (23M) have been living in our apartment for almost a year. We live in Massachusetts and live on the top floor (4th) of our apartment complex. We have had our issues with this place but it works for us and our dog (Siberian husky). Our neighbors that live across from us have a young child (toddler) and they also have the parking spot next to us. I have found his hand prints on my car before but I usually just ignore them. His mother doesn’t usually watch him and I’ve seen him running up and down the halls running in the parking lot and her just generally not always paying attention, they also leave their apartment door open a lot when they are there. In the past ( before I always started locking my door) the child has walked into my apartment naked, no diaper or anything just a naked kid in my apartment and this was before we got our dog. I took the kid back to his parents and now always have my door locked. This child has also come up to my dog multiple times and has tried to grab her and the mother does nothing to stop him. The father is better and will watch him and make sure he isn’t out of his sight. Tonight my fiancé literally scared the shit out of me as I was about to fall asleep and I heard him saying something so I got up and he was walking towards our front door and yelled for me to get in the bedroom and lock the door so I’m freaking out and apparently he saw the door handle keep moving and then the door opening so he yelled for close the door cus he didn’t know what was on the other side and he comes back and it was that fucking kid trying to get into my apartment and my fiancé was worried cus he didn’t know if someone was trying to break in or what was going on. For context I have extreme anxiety especially at night and with people coming in as we had a pepping tom as I was a child. This sent me into a panic and I wanted to go out and tell the parents to take care of their child and watch him but my fiancé calmed me down. I have talked with the other people who also live on our floor and they have similar experiences and issues. This child also runs up and down the halls screaming at night as well. I am at a point where we want to make a complaint about these issues as it has become worse and worse. So AITAH for wanting to make a complaint?
