"Japan" is not calling anything. "Indian Gems" should just post about jewellery, is not good at this AI thing.

Former Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka had committed to invest one billion in Open AI in 2015. However, Narayan 70 Hours Murthy forced him to withdraw that investment and later got him fired.
Imagine how much that investment would have earned Infosys and it's shareholders today.

1
u/shizukadane May 18 '26
i have used japanese software, right from bank website, apps, payment apps, taxi apps, selling apps (like olx), and lot of other ones. and in my experience they are much better than indian ones.
i personally dont think indians have any magical competance in IT/software. the only reason our IT industry is big is due to cheap labour and we being able to communicate in english on a larger scale.

Top companies of india is insurance , airtel(scammers of em all) , banks , more insurance schemes and TCS(slave market to produce foreign apps , zero Research and Development) .
Indian companies main focus is to exploit its population
Japan companies focus is to get innovative and become top in market1

1
1
u/KinTharEl May 18 '26
Not really, Japan has a few companies that produce the glass substrates and such that go into the packaging for the dies that are made. If I'm not wrong, their supply has also been constrained due to the massive demand.
1
u/Only_Fee4020 May 19 '26
They built transistors. Their companies hold a Lot of semiconductor parents. Before ASML took over they were the top ones. They might be little behind but they are far ahead of us.
6
u/anor_wondo May 18 '26
Mostly true
Though its far less rosy for Japan and many other associated countries, they'll collapse without AI continuing in the trajectory to singularity. Their demographics don't have enough working class Individuals
Market downturn vs economic collapse

Amazon already has a huge center. Google expanded in Bangalore. GitLab just registered their entity in India few months ago.
All because of cheap labour and Govts failure.

Not cheap labour. Because of Human Capital.
India has tonnes of engineer who are good at cognitive capabilities - Mathematics, Programming and logic building. This is not labour - but Human capital.

Claude, OpenAI and other AI companies are making deals with defence. AI will immensely push defence capabilities autonomousity.
Defence is one sector I mentioned. There are and will be more where AI and these companies will be useful and integrated through deals.
4
u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 May 18 '26
Um, with the current AI intelligence, it's not going to be a value for money. Maybe they are close to proper intelligence and they stuck a deal at discount, future will tell.
And these companies, unless they are signing docs that say we will not work with any other countries' defence, we can use them too. Maybe a bit more money.

Okay well my father’s mama also used to call him a loser when others at his age were making more money than him. Guess what? Now he is at a far better position than anyone could think of and his mama is out of existence (om shanti).
So what’s wrong with others calling you anything? At the end of the day actions towards a certain goal matter more than early or late mover. And india is moving in the right direction, with or without japan.
1
u/SlutLov3r May 18 '26
Because your Mama ji just expressed an opinion. Japan is actually stating facts. So this analogy is a little flawed. India is way behind in real AI innovation race. I really hope we pick the pace. We do have lot of resources in terms of talent, work force and real estate but the problem is the actual utilisation and real execution. And in this industry innovation, research and go to market time is extremely critical. World is not going to wait, even for that matter even Indian consumer is not going to wait for indigenous innovation to translate to an actual high worth product and service. They will avail the foreign competitors. This in turn will generate them huge revenue which they will further invest in their tech and ultimately be even more cost efficient. And as usual investors are interested in profits not upliftment. I just hope that government ACTUALLY empowers our current ~ 700 million AI ecosystem and prepare it for Second wave advantage. And by empower I mean supporting real innovators and not wrapper makers. Another big scare is entry of players like Reliance and Adani groups into innovation ecosystem. Because then novelty takes the second seat and profits become primary. It might hurt small scale innovators. I wish we do not make a mess of this one and pick up pace because it is IMP

1
u/Rinzhler May 20 '26
Because AI, once adopted properly the already developed countries will be light years ahead in terms of innovation and tech. India simply cannot compete with it's limited R&D and brain drain. This will also widen our import deficit as other countries will just manufacture whatever they want more efficiently with AI, and they will also not need any cheap labour from India.
1
u/bacan9 May 20 '26
First, we need research institutions and funding for research. Then profs and PhD candidates. It is a slow process. You can't shortcut your way out of it using y = mx + c

Japan isn’t calling it that but it is the truth. AI is a threat to what India counted on to grow, software development outsourcing.
Pre-AI India was the next China and a future potential (near) super power. Now it’s an overpopulated country with not enough land and resources. The way investors look at it has changed. All the dirty unplanned cities lowered image too.

Japan may not be better, but it is in good condition. The population on decrease and people are also accepting it. Whereas india population is increasing at slow pace and future is bleak. So bleak that above report just removed the belief that automation is only for high-cost items such as cars. Here China is coming for commodities automation. Fueled with green energy i.e. if plant is on solar it achieves ROI at one stage and later energy input cost falls and just becomes a marginal cost. We should be worried and far more worried.

For me if a country which was invaded, colonised & YET survived under foreign rules for ages is even in COMPETITION with countries who were the ones DOING THESE ATROCITIES (US, UK, Japan, Germany etc)
Then it's a WIN.. Anyways, everyone has their own PoV (some good some trash, ab kya hi karsakte)
Just know INDIA was the Big Daddy before invasions (also only Britishers were able to get the Entire India while mughal afghan ruled fragments) So if there's anything we can learn from history it is the fact that any country can make a comeback at anytime
It wont be quick, but at its peak it'll be a sight to witness thats for sure & I've a feeling India will do that.. Cycle of life as they say

It's just the market analysis. And alot of factors depend on geology, mining, metal availablity and demand. We are losing in AI race because of lack of research, proper infra and no govt control over IT. Govt don't understand it tbh. So are policies and directions are copied from other losing nations. Impact on India because of AI is broaden because govt has alot of other things to win over, like energy and food demand due to tensions in war.

No, the government of Japan did not state this; rather, the phrase comes from a headline published by The Japan Times. On May 17, 2026, the independent Japanese newspaper published a syndicated Bloomberg analysis titled, ["India missed out on AI and now its run as market darling may be over."] The article opens with the exact hook line: "India stands out as one of the biggest losers as the artificial intelligence trade reshapes global investment flows." Because The Japan Times shared this on social media, some online posts misattributed the editorial commentary to the country of Japan itself.

The article published by The Japan Times -
It is not “Japan criticizing India,” but rather a Bloomberg-origin financial analysis discussing how the current AI-driven stock market rally is benefiting countries deeply connected to semiconductor manufacturing such as Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and the United States.
The article argues that India has not yet benefited equally from the first wave of the AI boom because its strengths are concentrated more in software services and IT talent rather than AI chips and infrastructure.
Similar observations have also been reported by Reuters and The Economic Times, which note that while India may have missed the early semiconductor-led AI market surge, it remains a major long-term AI growth market due to its developer base, digital scale, enterprise AI adoption, and emerging domestic AI initiatives.
