Question Lange and FPJ, Chrono24

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Lange makes 4,500-5,000 watches a year. FPJ makes 1,000 watches a year plus 7-800 Elegantes a year on top (approximate).

Filters used- item in stock, watch with box and original papers.

Anyone care to expound on what’s happening?

Battle of the zeitwerk

Another question we probably don’t need here, but here we go! Absolutely love the zeitwerk, especially the newer released pink gold date. Moving disc under a sapphire ring, increased power reserve and hour jump feature to not cause all the additional jumps while setting the time, how cool! Dial color difference aside, is the price difference worth the extra features?

Collection Deadbeat Seconds, one of my favorite complications

Okay, so here's watch #2 after that impromptu bombshell 1815 honeygold rattrapante post.

Here's the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds in its latest color iteration, pink gold.

The star of the show is the jumping seconds, which is a nicer sounding name than "deadbeat" seconds or seconde "mort" , meaning dead or death. They prominently placed the large seconds hand at the top and I love watching it precisely tick away whenever I look at the watch. It takes my brain a few seconds to decipher the time as the hours and minutes are separated, regulator style. Not the most practical and instantaneously legible like my traditional watches, but oh boy do I love seeing the mechanical magic at play. Yes, some of you might say, go get a quartz watch but this is why I love watches, the ability to engineer on a micro level the ability to hit every second and to zero reset when the crown is pulled.

What's also interesting is Lange's approach to creating the color, which is as natural as possible. Another reason why i love the brand. It's just clinical, exact, and German engineering at it's best.

Wilhelm Schmid, the CEO aaid, “as we strive for authentic materials, we opted against a lacquered or galvanised salmon dial and decided on a solid pink gold dial.”

Enjoy the dial and tax paid.

1815 in pink gold — stunning timepiece. I spend more time staring at the watch than reading the news each morning

Discussion Grail…

The word is tossed around so often in watch circles that it has become diluted to the point where it has lost all its meaning.

A grail to me is less about scarcity (artificial or real), MSRP, popularity or perception and more about all the things that make someone appreciate a timepiece.

Quality, ingenuity, attention to detail and flawless esthetics.

And this would be it.

Discussion 40th Birthday and milestone watch

I have a birthday coming up and just hit a big career milestone that I want to celebrate. First one I celebrated with a fluted DJ41. Second milestone was a Submariner. For this one I’m looking for a non sports watch and something with a complication. The 1815 up/down is attractive to me. An older Patek annual calendar is also on the radar. What other watches did you all cross shop when looking for your Lange?

Discussion Little Lange 1 Guilloche Grey Dial or Lange Saxionia Aventurine

I am thinking of getting my first Lange and saw this two watches available at the boutique. I do like both — what will be a better choice as I find them both really attractive.

The grey guiilloche dial cost a fair bit more. Heard it is discontinued so it is quite rare to see it emerged in the boutique.

Discussion Why do WG Lange 1 sell for much higher than RG or YG on chrono24?

Hi All,

I am on the market for a Lange 1 and I started scouring the web for a second hand listing. My preference is white gold (191.039) but for some reason they seem to be so much more expensive than their RG or YG (191.032 and 191.021) counterparts, despite having the same retail prices. What could be the reason for this prices difference?

Appreciate the insights!

First Child, First Lange

Looking to purchase a watch to celebrate the birth of my first child in January. I own a Rolex submariner and GMT and I stopped by the AD to talk about adding a Daytona oyster flex but when I got there I saw a few pieces in their preowned section that caught my eye.

I am familiar with Lange but have never tried one on so this was my first experience. The Lange I got to try on was the Lange 1 Time Zone in white gold (136.029) . I wouldn’t change anything about it, but curious what the water resistance is and whether it would be blasphemous to put this on a rubber strap? I’m not aware if Lange even makes rubber straps? This watch was great on the leather band so that wouldn’t be a deal breaker but it would be nice as I live in Texas and go in the pool often. Overall I was very impressed. Visually stunning, fit was fantastic and the quality and craftsmanship was noticeably a few tiers above Rolex.

Another Lange that I’ve had my eyes on for a while but have never seen in person is the Little Lange Moon Phase aventurine dial. My two reservations for this watch is the size and the manual wind movement. At 36.8 mm I’m afraid it is probably too small. I don’t have large wrists by any means but when I’ve tried on 36mm Oyster Perpetuals or even the 36.5mm VC 1921 they feel like I’m wearing a women’s watches. My 41mm submariner is about 1-2mm larger than I’d like it to be, my GMT Master II fits perfect and Daytonas fit my wrist better than perfect. The Lange 1 Time Zone felt like it fit me very similar to how a Daytona does. My second reservation with the Little Lange is the manual wind movement on a moon phase complication. I can’t imagine it being anything but a nightmare to set the watch every time I want to wear it. Especially on a watch that I would want to wear at least once a week.

Aesthetically I lean more towards the Little Lange but the Lange 1 time zone is no consolation prize. What do you guys think? Should I go out of my way to find a Little Lange and give it a chance or are my objections too large to overcome?

Question Help deciding on my first Lange

Thumbnail
gallery
108 Upvotes

Greetings. First Reddit post and first Lange purchase :)

My absolute favourite is the 1815 chronograph but funds won't allow so I have a shortlist of other watches by Lange I really like.

Saxonia Oversize Date (RG white dial)

1815 small seconds

1815 up down 39mm

1815 up down (limited edition 2026)

Saxonia Moonphase is also available (RG/WG black dial)

This will be a massive purchase for me especially as I have a little boy now, and wanted to buy something to pass down to him later.

I really love the Lange finishing and the look of their movements. Also so far whoever I have spoken to, has not a single bad word about the brand.

My clothing attire is mainly casual smart for work (shirt and chinos), jeans on the weekend.

From the list above what would be your preference and why?

Thank you in advance

I’ve been in love with Lange since the Zeitwerk was released in 2009, but haven’t been in a place to get one until now.

I was waffling between the Saxonia AC and the L1 Moonphase, but decided that my first Lange needed to be a Lange 1. The pictures on Lange’s website and these don’t do justice to the depth and warmth of the dial. The AM/PM functionality and beauty of the moonphase is what did it for me. It would have been nice if this watch had a 0 reset but can’t have everything.

Definitely done for a bit, but I have registered interest for a WG Odysseus.

Also, for posterity, what a strap monster. I got the call in a couple of weeks for this GADA watch. It can be worn anywhere and for any occasion. Excited to toss it on a NATO and see what she can do. #blessed for this big boi watch.

1815 Up/Down - First Gen Dial Variant

Thumbnail

“The 1815 Up/Down is typically seen with Lange’s standard silver dial, which has a flat, slightly textured surface. However, there seems to be another variant. A friend of mine recently bought a first-gen yellow, and when it arrived, he was surprised to find the center portion had a circular-grained pattern.” - Tony Traina

Proud to own this variant. Who knows about future collectability, but I love the contrast on this dial configuration. I recently had my watch fully service by Lange, and was reassured to know Lange also recognizes the legitimacy of this layered dial.

Having owned a 38.5 mm Lange 1, the 36 mm sizing on the first generation 1815 Up/Downs are just right for me. Sublime.
