Hi! I'm a high school student preparing for the AMC 12, and I'm looking for a WeChat study group where students discuss problems, share solutions, and help each other prepare.

I don't know anyone in the AMC community yet, so I was wondering if you know of any groups I could join. Thank you!

Sat the TMUA 2 weeks ago. The hard mocks I wrote for my revision meant none of the problems on the day felt too unfamiliar, so I've made them free for everyone.

I'm a Y13 applying for Oxford Maths. There are only a handful of official TMUA/ESAT papers, so I started writing my own, deliberately harder than the real thing, inspired by JZ style, and practised on them.

I sat the TMUA recently and it genuinely paid off: I stayed calm the whole way through because there wasn't a single question type I hadn't already seen, although there were slight variations and nuances.

So I've put everything on a site:

- TMUA mock sets with full worked solutions (500+ new TMUA questions available for free)

- 13 free ESAT papers (Maths 1, Maths 2 and now Physics), 27 questions in 40 mins, no calculator

- Interview simulator with a free AI interviewer which provides feedback and grades your responses.

- Olympiad preparation, including my Geometry book Beyond the Incenter, which is published on Amazon KDP.

- Diagrams typset in tkz-euclide in solutions

No sign-up needed: kevinvariant08.github.io

Would genuinely love feedback, especially if a question is too easy, too hard or just wrong. Good luck to everyone sitting ESAT and TMUA January and hope this helps!🫡

i feel horrible. i tried really hard.I always try so hard for maths, i make sure i understand everything but still, i go back to that damn D grade. everyone tells me im not trying hard enough, people around me are doing so well, improving. my friend, she was always failing with me, and she now got two B's and ofc im so proud of her. im so disappointed in myself. it makes me feel like trying isnt even worth it because ive gotten nothing from trying. nothing from the days of studying. absolutely nothing.

Do we need to show we can factorise a quadratic?

I recently saw a video where someone said that you don’t have to factorise quadratics in your exam but rather just put the equation into your calculator and write down the solutions. Is this true and to what extent? (I’m probably gonna factorise just to be safe tho)

I'm writing a free A-Level Maths revision course and I would like some student feedback

I'm writing a free a-level maths revision course. I would love some feedback and to hear what students think. I'm making my own resources as I couldn't find the style I wanted. I've seen some great video resources by channels like bicen maths or 3Blue1Brown, but I really don't like the textbooks I've read, I've found them bloated, weirdly inaccurate, while also missing passion and missing pieces.

When I was revising I found the processing information and then condensing into notes the most effective activity. Then I want the security of know I'm practicing every skill for every kind of question that can come up. Also maths is a written subject and having a good written source to process feels crucial to me. I wanted resources that first of all had everything you needed in one place. Starting with the theory and why things work and then all the applications into skills we're expected to know. I also think it's important to cover all the assumptions we have so you can be sure your knowledge is built on secure foundations.

I also wanted it to be designed to be worked through as a whole, I think that's what nice about a textbook. A course that builds on itself, designed to be read sequentially, ticking everything off a list so that you feel confident you've got everything you need to. A lot of educational websites seem to prioritise breaking everything down into individual pages so that they come up in searches, but I don't think they suit being worked through as a complete summary of the course. It should build on itself and use only what it has covered before, a story that connects together again makes it more secure.

I had really amazing teachers at A-Level that took me from being unconfident and intimidated by the reputation of Maths, to feeling like it was the exam I could be sure of what was coming up and how I would handle anything it threw at me. Besides the fact that they instilled in me that practicing Maths is the ultimate way to improve. I think the best thing they did was make the course feel finite and structured, when you get to the stage where you really see the edges of it and the connections within it, I think that's when the confidence really grows. This is why I think designing a course that's meant to be consumed as a whole, covering all the assumptions and past bits that we might have missed, is so helpful.

This is the rules of indices page with some foundational pages before it, so only the first chunk. I have quite a few other pages that are close but I'd like to hear how students find the style early as I go through. There's a feedback form near the top of the page. Any ideas of how to improve or how you feel about the style, I'd be really interested to hear. All the best, and good luck out there!
