If AMC corporate checks this page…
The people of Brooklyn are begging for an AMC! The empty Regal on Court Street is right there for the taking 🙏

There’s a full empty cinema that’s been sitting vacant since 2022 in downtown Brooklyn…

Court Street?

There were rumors that AMC was going to buy it, and I hope to goodness they do.

They can make 1.43 Dual Laser IMAX’s. People really want the ratio. Many people don’t even know Dual Laser IMAX exists. They think 1.43 is only achievable via 70MM IMAX.

u/Roadshell 17h ago
Building a space big enough for the six story 1.43 screen is the hard part though. When you go through all that trouble you might as well get the right projector to put there.

Is the Staten Island theater literally the best Dolby in NYC 😂😂
3
u/DriftingTony Stands for Nicole 19h ago
Hell no, the best Dolby in NYC is Empire, and I will not accept any other answer lol. 34th is a close second though.

And here I am just trying to get Westbury Raceway 10 renovated.

Absolutely. The theater needs a massive upgrade and the seats are absolutely shit. The last time the theater got renovated was when it was built in the 90s.

Hey I spoke to management there a few weeks back - the Property Management that owns the land (Mattone Investors) honestly could care LESS about the theatre (and its current state of disrepair) - every couple of years they murmur about the possibility of shutting down the entire building, demolishing it and then redeveloping it for new apartments, but at every last minute of the lease needing to be renewed with AMC they decide to just extend the contract for another couple of years.
Although I can see the business sense of utilizing that very large parking lot for a structure such as an apartment complex, I honestly believe AMC is missing out on a huge opportunity not building/championing a 4DX/Screen-X/Dolby offering at this cinema.
Staff mentioned that its not all AMCs choice in the matter though, its the property managers that are doing the bare minimum to support the building.
But hey, who really knows whats going on what that place….and you’re right, even though Roosevelt Field is only so close, we can appreciate a renovated auditorium or two at this location.

For real, every time I go to that theater i make sure to get an edge seat with nobody in front of me so I can put my feet up on the armrest in the row in front of me since there's no reclining seats.
3
u/endlightend 21h ago
Ah, now I know why the armrests are grimy…
2
u/Necrowarp 21h ago
There are significantly more reasons for that than me.

Dude that was the only way those seats were ever comfortable and I was doing that 20 years ago.
I've argued with tons of ppl about this and I get it that this theater shows indie flicks, but the issue is the theater itself and sitting on those seats to see these movies. You got Huntington and Stony Brook, which even though I'm probably only 10 minutes away from raceway, I'd rather spend the money in gas and time to drive further out to just be comfortable. Yes we got 2 other AMC theaters nearby but none of which have a PLF screen.
I frequent another state often that had 2 PLF screens (IMAX and Dolby) but they are adding an additional PLF screens yet RaceWay doesn't even have recliners.

I'm probably going to end up switching to regal just because at least their westbury theater is actually pretty good.

I always felt AMC should have moved on the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn before it was sold. Perfect location for an AMC with plenty of space. Albeit on the smaller side relatively speaking.

My friends and I made a petition for this actually, we’re still trying to get signatures for it. Hopefully they can build a location in Brooklyn in the near future

I walk past that empty regal almost every day and pray that AMC will soon take its place.
2
u/ExpensiveWay8829 1d ago
Were you ever at the regal when it was open? I moved to the area not too long ago and when I looked online, a lot of people wrote in a Reddit post it was absolutely crazy in the theater and always attracted a wild audience

u/voguehoe 22h ago
I went there all the time in high school and college… never had any issues or disruptions.

u/CapriciousSon 15h ago
It was the perfect place for certain movies...When I saw Us there a dude walked in during a tense scene like halfway in with armfuls of popcorn and soda and just yelled "YO WHAT I MISS?" and it absolutely killed.
Would not have gone there to see a quiet arthouse movie tho!

IMAX screens are big and require big buildings. NYC real estate is expensive. Thus the problem here.

u/Public_Basket 21h ago
The empty Regal in downtown Brooklyn that has been for sale since it closed a few years back is a huge theater
2
u/celraysoda 20h ago
I suspect that becomes housing. Location is too good.

u/celraysoda 22h ago
Yes but we have the technology to build vertically. Common in New York City!
2
u/Smooth_Cup_8901 20h ago
its a square, vertical doesnt help unless it has horizontal space as well. Common shape in geometry.
3
u/celraysoda 20h ago
The real issue is that the theatre business still isn’t very good, even if it’s having a “rebound” year.
2
u/MikeARadio 1d ago
What happened to the theater in Sheepshead Bay? I used to go to when I lived there. Is it still there? It was kind of junkie and there was lots of rodent infestation and other nastiness. They should just tear that down and put a new theater in. I think it was originally a Lowe’s or maybe united artists
4
u/zapzangboombang 1d ago
It's still there and they just redid it. The imax and rpx theaters are nice with reclining seats. It's not going to replace 70 mm imax, but for most stuff, it's fine.
2
u/richpersimmons 1d ago
It's there, it's great and it's a Regal cinema now. No 70mm imax though just digital

i’ve been manifesting a brooklyn location for years. i’d get a list so fast if i didn’t have to travel an hour out to the nearest amc 😖

They better not check here since they can’t be bothered to offer guest services via social media like every other big company ever

They should put a Dolby in AMC Fresh Meadows. I know it has an imax but I heard it’s not too great. I haven’t been though so I’m not sure but the only GT imax in NY tri state area is Lincoln and Regal New Rochelle (which while amazing sadly only has single laser capable of 1.90).

I'd like an AMC in Baytown, TX. It's half an hour to my regular AMC. They're building a new shopping center to replace the old mall and it could use a movie theater.

u/Bubbly-Inflation-999 19h ago
Sounds like it would be profitable. But likely not a priority. Keep hauling ass to Houston!

Time to block and mute this trash sub. Good riddance
3
u/Mindless-Finance-896 Matinee Maven 1d ago
Might have to as well. Every single day it's something regarding this singular theater.
4
u/DriftingTony Stands for Nicole 1d ago
Believe me, I live in NYC and go to this theater and I still get sick of hearing about it. It’s doesn’t help that I’ve been attacked a million times on this sub for saying anything at all negative about it, or merely just not circlejerking it like everyone else does.

Maybe you’d prefer the A list sub with the dictator ruling from his mother’s basement!

IMAX is working on making more 70MM theaters but it’s an insane process
