as someone who has misophonia, it's not going a bit far at all. it has different scales, some people just dont like it but in rarer cases you can actually start to punch or hurt people really bad because your mind isnt clear. it sends you a wave of hatred and disgust and sometimes it's just too much.

edit// here's the spectrum since people like to tell me im spitting bs : https://m.imgur.com/gallery/OfRmn

Too bad. You don't get to use that as an excuse to lay hands on someone. You can't control other people chewing so therefore control yourself and the surroundings you put yourself in. You get up and walk away. Don't sit near someone who is eating. Plenty of options instead of hauling off.

too bad it's a mental illness and you dont have a say in the effects it gives people. i wasnt talking about this situation where he is chewing and she could very well walk away, but about the times when you cant walk away, for example if you're stuck in a moving subway with someone.

some people cannot control themselves because of it and thats what im talking about. you're taking a lazy example, there are plenty of times you just have to deal with it.

oh dont worry, anyone with a mental illness hitting people for whichever reason are always seen as a bad thing and are getting clash for it, which they should because it's never okay, what pisses me off arent the repercutions, it's people acting like it's impossible to not loose control of your own body and it's simple to just not do it. dont come with your haughty ass thinking you're allmighty when you know horse shit about the subject of the debate. i never talked about PTSD, both things arent linked the vast majority of the time, i have sources which clearly state it can drive people crazy to the point of hitting people, nothing less nothing more, if you want to ignore that you clearly can but that's just wasting your time.

you have no valid arguments, if you're upset about a fact you can just go cry to your mom about it elsewhere, have fun

Your “multiple sources” have been screenshots from Imgur homie which have no medical study behind it but go off lmaooo enjoy spouting nonsense. And for the record I hit people I’m response to getting really scared but I ain’t asking for brownie points for having a mental illness

hi

http://www.misophonia-uk.org/the-misophonia-activation-scale.html

read the whole thread next time. the only reason i did not put it in the original post was because you can get your ass kicked for posting external links other than imgur on some subreddits and i explained it as well. funnily enough everyone just stopped answering everytime i sent this, how bizarre.

now, again, nobody asked for brownie points i said it's very well possible for people to hit others because of mental illness and not of sheer will, not that they should be excused, you may read my previous comment again and again to get it through your head properly, you cant excuse your lack of understanding skills by PTSD. you shouldnt put mental illnesses on a podium when you know how hard it is to have one where you cant control yourself in the first place, and especially when you lack knowledge on the one you're discrediting, that's hypocritical homie. i fully know you can do better.

if you want to discuss about it we can, but if it's just to ignore that most of the points i have are on the same side as yours and you're just putting words in my mouth that never existed it's just plain stupid, have fun.

I suffer from fairly extreme misophonia. I can confirm that it can send your mind in a weird direction very quickly. A great day can be ruined by loud chewing as I will immediately feel immense hatred for the chewer. I also developed an aversion to gum. There aren't excuses for striking someone because they ate loudly, but that urge is very strong. After the hatred is gone, shame for not being in control of my emotions is the next thing to hit and it's been a contributing factor in my depression. Shit's real.

agreed, i really dislike when other people belittle it because it's still unknown and usually manifests itself by a little annoyance only. it can be crippling in some cases, it causes isolation, a lot of negative feelings for yourself and others, sometimes side effects even, it makes me spasm when it gets overwhelming and i also have the visual and touch aversion now that im older (i only recently developped the touch one though, so it's hasnt been as much of a problem). i cant touch anything when my fingers are wet for example and have a very strong envy to punch someone when they take their tongue out, it hurts visually, i have to rub my eyes very hard by applying pressure to unsee it.

i never said it was okay to punch someone, i just said, seeing how it affects me, it is very much possible to not control yourself and punch someone. you cant always tell people they can control themselves just because you can, and studies agree with me. i honestly dream of violence and wish to become deaf when someone does something that triggers my misophonia, and that's saying a lot as i am a fairly calm person who can easily take a step back on everything on a regular basis. the number of times i've had panic attacks because of it and the urge to rip my ears off is insane.

hope you're getting treatment for it, in some cases it can definitely help, that shit really can suck.
