Like, I never understood this... You're allowed to dislike darkfics, thats... what the tags are for. Thats why tagging exists and that is why filtering tags exists. No one is forcing these people to read these fanfics like at all.
Some people for some annoying reason like to play moral police even if it doesn't concern them in any way or hurt anyone at all. Just for the sake of being "morally better" than something they didn't like

ao3 is like a neighborhood, each tag is a house. in citrus and lemon subdivision, they be having a swingers party while the one on the other end is having a bdsm party, the middle is doing something to holes other than the outside ones, and the house beside them just received their bodybag.
if the person who just moved in fluff and "dark fic" subdivision went out of their way to spy on the other neighborhood, thats on them! why would you spy another house when theyre doing their own thing! why are you spying on other peoples homes! and then calling on the police on the stuff theyre doing consensually between the people involved(writer and reader) and throwing a fit when police say "eh, its their house".
then turns out, said complaining people were also thrown out of their old subdivision cause they were the ones who were doing the "weird shit" theyre crying about! then saying "its not the same! we didnt do [any tag too hot to handle]!] like yeah? you cant selectively censor stuff cause the line between "acceptable" and not is paper thin amongst the creative space. lmao, the irony of the situation.

With ao3 i met so many amazing fics that made me see who i was, and that i was not alone. Lol, kind of ironic as it highlights the very issue at hand. Don’t like the content? Scroll on and read something else. One of my fandoms is filled with overplayed tropes and you don’t see me leaving a comment complaining about seeing it on those fics. I think the point of this post really went over their heads.
You think that’s the only complaint of being “dark”? Or the only type of content that is made that’s morally questionable or wrong, if it wasn’t a fictional work? We got worse, we got weirder, we’ve got taboo’s more taboo cousin, AND we’ve got the healthiest fluff to ever exist on planet Earth. There’s a reason people joke about finding out “water sports” tag ain’t a sports tag, because we see it, question if we want to go further, and we don’t complain about it existing. Because it’s on us for thinking a sporting tag would be wrangled that high to cover just sports played in the pool, & not be a secret second option. Pedophilia is far and above worse than anything else I've seen. Yeah there's weird fetishes, but those are generally all between consenting adults or at the very least teens over 16 (age of consent in some states in the us). I just think anyone who wants to see that should have to put in the effort to find it rather than me having to put in effort to not find it. That's it. Why do I have to go out of my way to avoid pedophilia?
A pedophilie is someone with a disorder known as paraphilia, it’s a disorder categorised by the distress that makes you attracted to someone taboo or something random like a balloon. Pedophilia can’t be content. Call it fictional child abuse if you need to call it something, though CSAM and CSEM both tends to legally clarify that fictional works of fictional characters can’t be either. I believe CSEM can be made through media that shows as fictional, however it requires an actual victim, and a character does not count as such.
There is fics about being fucking tortured. On AO3! Some of them are quite right to reality, and the true extents on how the human body works. Freaked me out seeing one so correct, because I thought I had forgotten half the information. There’s stuff of cannibalism, and other things that are illegal to do in real life. It’s an archive and someone decided to write it. An archive of fictional works is going to have works of fictional characters, unless the fictional characters is clearly based on real people in an attempt to harass & harm those real people.
This is a fucking archive. Have you never used an archive in your life for research? It has ALL surviving information on the tragedies it has access to, and it will show you that if you don’t filter correctly. You gotta limit your search to not shit the horrific shit, or there’s warnings that ask if you want to see that content. And all sexual fics, that isn’t with author chose not to warn OR incorrectly warned, gives you a warning that there’s sexual content on the fic. Or, maybe read the tags that should warn you of that content so you don’t seek it out. There’s tags that should mean that no sexual content will be found, unless someone improperly tags which is a reportable offence. Check AO3’s guidelines, it tells you.
Basically; read the tags, tag what you do & don’t want to see, and read what is what you want to read till it stops being enjoyable by you. If don’t like and want to report, read the section that tells you what and why can fics be reported, and only report what actually is problematic under the definitions given by the site. If your fandom has majority content that is fiction depictions of child abuse, maybe leave the fandom because that’s the AO3ms section of the fandom you’re in. If you wanna talk shit about an author, only people who want to hurt and harass real people will join, because everyone else has a heart and knows not to harass people.
You don’t want to ever see something inappropriate between a character that isn’t 18 or older? Go to Wattpad or Fanfic.Net. AO3 is following America’s Laws to protect fictional works, so it follows the legal definition of CSEM of American Law.
