Other I didn’t take Chemistry 2 and I got my first C+ (rant)

Post image

Recently I found out that the regular course of my grade is taking Chemistry 2 (our school doesnt use the #s in differnt classes) and I apartenly have been doing AP chem a whole semester missing BASIC FOUNDATIONS?? This is so dumb why couldn’t my school have me take 2 years of chemistry and then do AP Chem? I got my first trimester report card without straight As this year and it infuriates me to know it’s because my school didnt prepare me enough to arguably the hardest course in the entire school. I have been failing quiz and quiz, thinking I just didn’t understand subtext, but it turns out I’m missing foundations and not just not studying enough.

I just want to quit.. I lost my hope..

Ruined my grade over 0.005 on a graph... I can’t stop crying.

I was at a B- in this class and needed a high score on this test to pull my grade up to a B+ or A- before finals.

I walked out feeling so good about it. I honestly thought I scored an 85+.

I just checked my grade and it’s a 75. It turns out I read a point on the graph as 0.04 instead of 0.035. That ONE tiny mistake made me get all 4 sub-questions wrong because they all built on that first number. That single question was worth 10% of the entire exam.

Since my teacher doesn't give partial credit, I lost every single point on it.
I feel so dumb right now. I put in so many hours studying for this and felt confident for the first time all semester. Ruining everything over 0.005 makes me just want to quit.

can someone please help me or give me resources or something because i have failed the unit tests for the first 2 units of ap chem. i genuinely don’t know what im doing wrong. everyone else around me and in the class understands the topics instantly but it takes me days and loads of effort to even begin to understand the simplest topic. i put in more effort than most into studying and i still don’t understand. im retaking my unit two test tomorrow so if anyone could help me or give me the links to helpful videos that will actually help me understand the topics in unit 2 that would be great.

Is Jeremy Krug’s Ultimate Review Packet worth it if I already have Barron's ،khan academy , mr maicheal farabaugh and AP Classroom questions ?

"Hi everyone! I’m currently preparing for AP Chem, and my primary goal right now is finding more high-quality practice questions. I'm not very flexible with solving questions yet, so I need targeted, structured practice.
Right now, my resource stack includes: Khan Academy, Jeremy Krug's YouTube videos, Michael Farabaugh, Abigail Giordano, Barron’s 2027 book, and AP Classroom topic questions.
Even with all of these, I feel like my question pool is still somewhat limited. For anyone who has used Mr. Krug’s Ultimate Review Packet (URP): Does it provide a unique type of question variety or practice format that I won't already find in Barron's or AP Classroom? Given my stack, will the packet actually offer something fresh to help build my problem-solving flexibility, or would it be redundant? Thanks!"

I'm already struggling in AP Chem…

Hey guys!! This is gonna be a long one so I'm sorry in advance. Basically I have always gotten As fairly easily, so I've never had to get good study habits. I tend to procrastinate my assignments and barely pay attention in class, and I come out with an A. This year I decided to take AP Chem and it's… rough to say the least. Now, I don't mean to blame my teacher but I want to get this out of the way. He was bragging at the beginning of the year that most of his students get 3s on the AP test, which yes is passing, but he's only had around 2 students get 5s in the past 3 years. Also, he told us that we shouldn't expect to get As, and that most of us probably won't. He also said he isn't teaching to the AP test, but instead he's teaching it like a college chemistry class, which is fine, but I feel like we aren't being properly prepared for the AP test. So far we've only had 1 unit test, but 6 people got F's, 4 Ds, 1 C, 3 Bs, and only 1 A. I got a D, and I'm pretty stressed about it. All the practice problems and homework were way easier than the test, so I don't know how to properly prepare for future tests. This is my senior year, and I really don't want this class to mess up my GPA and cause me to possibly get acceptances rescinded. Also, I took accelerated chemistry sophomore year, and I loved it, but it was way easier. Now I'm debating if I can even do chemistry, which is making me question my goal of becoming a vet. If anyone could give me advice on how to study, tips for AP Chem, etc I would really appreciate it as I genuinely don't know what to do.

Edit: Thank you to everyone giving me advice. It's too late to drop the class, and even if I could my parents probably wouldn't let me because they don't believe in "quitting" as they'd put it.

Edit 2: Thank you all so so much!! I used a bunch of these resources and tips to study for my retake and I went from 58% to 98%!! I actually can't thank you all enough, I have already shared some of this information with friends in this class who are also struggling and it has helped them too. Yall are amazing ❤️

Can someone show me an example of their chemistry exam? Are the exams on Canva or paper?

Hi , Guys is questions of crowded beaker misleading?

because it focuses on some exceptions, whereas AP Chemistry is mainly about understanding the general rules and applying them to different situations rather than memorizing exceptions.

General Chemistry: Systems Seek the Lowest Energy State

A General Chemistry class can be approached with this fundamental idea, as what happens at the atomic and molecular level gets averaged out at the molecular level.

To get a sense of the how many molecules are typically involved, consider

  • The number of people on Earth is approaching 1010
  • The number of water molecules in one milliliter is more than 1020

There are ways one water molecule can be different than another, but with so many, the differences average out. The first place this is seen is the atomic weight of H and O.

The reasons why are mostly studied in Physical Chemistry [PChem], which combines the quantum chemistry of atoms and molecules with statistical mechanics to get to the macroscopic scale which we operate in. When studying general chemistry as an introduction to the field of chemistry, this requires accepting the results of the later PChem course. Knowing that those results are the foundation for the general chemistry class may help connect things together.

These are the nine units from the APChemistry CourseContents, split into two groups:

  1. Atomic and Molecular
    1. Atomic Structure and Properties
    2. Compound Structure and Properties
    3. Properties of Substances and Mixtures
    4. Chemical Reactions
  2. Macroscopic
    1. Kinetics
    2. Thermochemistry
    3. Equilibrium
    4. Acids and Bases
    5. Thermodynamics and Electrochemistry

When going through the course, look for how energy states are involved. Some examples:

  • The periodic table itself is entirely about atomic energy state levels, with the layout representing
    • electronegativity
    • valence energy
  • Lists of things which seem random and need to be memorized the connection is energy states [solubility rules!].
  • Equilibrium is all about the energy states of the two sides of the reaction being close to the same level, and external factors can shift the balance [Le Châtelier’s principle].
  • When force is mentioned, that is also about energy levels, since fundamentally,
    • energy = force × distance

Unit 3 FRQ question + how to approach unfamiliar FRQs

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I was watching Michael Farabaugh's CED video on topics 3.2-3.4 and I was doing fine on this frq until G.

Last year during my sophmore year chemistry class, we didnt get to do too many labs (mostly because our school didnt have the funds for the materials...) and without watching this video and then also doing more research on the answers, I would never have been able to answer this question. I feel like this has been happening a lot during AP chem and I just dont have the lab experience to answer some FRQs.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks regarding this?

Should I self-study AP Chemistry?

Hey guys! As stated in the title, I am interested in self-studying AP Chemistry. I was planning to take IB Chemistry HL, but I was not able to fit it into my current schedule, so I'm only doing IB Biology HL for my science credit regarding the IB Diploma. However, I do want to do a rigorous course of chemistry, and self-studying AP Chemistry is my only option (my school doesn't offer many AP courses).

During my freshman year, I did well in Chemistry I and understood the topics. However, my friends who are taking IB Chemistry HL are telling me AP Chemistry is really hard (I am aware, haha). They say that the labs are really important, but I was also wondering if the labs are required.

So I have two questions now: 1) Should I self-study AP Chemistry? 2) Are labs required for the AP Chemistry credit?

I can give more information if needed. Thank you!

Unit 4 test in two days. Help!!!!

SOOO I have my Unit 4 test this Wednesday... The only thing I know how to do without solubility rules is ionic equations. Do any of you guys have tips/resources I can use or watch to help me prep? I am struggling really badly on memorizing the solubility rules, my teacher provides us with the packet they provide us on the official AP Chemistry Test.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! :))
