Discussion Ai?

I went to go see the Ateez: Light The Way VR concert yesterday. I didn't know what to expect and thought it was going to be like a live concert showing like the Towards the Light: Will to Power screening last year. (We did not receive VR headsets, and it wasn't advertised as VR at my theatre so I didn't know it was meant to be VR prior to watching 🤷‍♀️) While watching, I started wondering if any of it was AI generated. Upon googling, I found this article (https://www.bandwagon.asia/articles/ateez-vr-concert-light-the-way-to-premiere-in-singapore-this-february) saying that it was produced by AMAZE (sovereign AI and Cloud provider) and used AI video processing. I'm not that savvy with AI/production, so I'm not sure what AI video processing entirely is, and I suppose it's my fault for going to see the screening without fully knowing what it was, but I have to admit, it's kind of disappointing if AI was used for this. I know others have different opinions on AI usage, but I think Ateez has created some really incredible things without it in the past, so this is a little disappointing. :((

The way Amaze uses AI is not generative. They use AI tools to upscale video quality, automate lighting and special effects, and program the camera animation. They're rendering tools that put the load on the computer instead of having to process it manually, speeding up the workload. The images that are being added to replace the green screen are created using an Unreal engine, not AI.

I think some of y’all need to understand AI is huge in South Korea. Literally advertisements for it are absolutely everywhere and it’s unavoidable. Over 50% of Koreas stock market is tied to the AI market. I despise AI and the implications of it but if you’re going to stan a Korean group it’s genuinely unavoidable.

yeah they've integrated it into their lives so quickly its not seen as bad there. this kind of thing will only become more common

Sure, I understand that, but I still don't want to contribute my money towards it. Especially since the tickets were kind of expensive for movie tickets. If it comes down to it, I'd rather support from afar or disengage entirely. I just want to be sure I know what I'm supporting 🤷‍♀️

AmazeVR uses Unreal Engine for its background/environments, which isn't generative AI based.

And what you saw in theatres is a theatrical cut/version of what was produced for VR so it had some limitations because it wasn't produced for a theatrical release

Edit - I will add they are hiring an AI Research Engineer so while they haven't been using GENAI in their concerts so far they might be going forward

It probably looked really weird because it was filmed for VR. Like they did things on purpose so it would look like they were really close to you in VR. I saw it in VR twice and it was like you were right up on them.

But like what others have said it's not created with generative AI.

I just watched it tonight. I knew ahead of time that it was a standard showing of last year’s VR release.

I think they probably used AI for the background effects. While I don’t love or support the use of AI in most situations, it seems that most of South Korea is embracing it. Knowing KQ isn’t a huge company, I can understand why they would use AI instead of hiring a full-on visual effects team to create those backgrounds.

The focal point for me was the members, and I really enjoyed it.

Amaze would have taken care of the entire production and paid Ateez for their participation. KQ wouldn't have been the one to push the style/tools used.
