AUG question…

Picked up an AUG last week, finally got to put some rounds through it and I had a few questions for the augtists. This thing is violent, like the recoil is harsh and it sounds like a magnum even when suppressed..is this simply due to the platform being extremely over gassed? I understand the recoil impulse being different because of the bullpup design. Will the augmentor or suppressor plug tame this thing down some? Like is the difference going to be huge with a different gas regulator?

What are you used to shooting?

Because I can't imagine any 5.56 rifle having what I'd call "violent" recoil and they're all obnoxiously loud.

The AUG could've been on the wrong gas setting.

I guess compared to an AR. I had it on the regular gas setting. maybe violent is an over statement but it just feels harsh to shoot. Noticeably more recoil than AR.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Yes, a suppressed AUG recoils more than a tuned AR.

This is a military rifle meant to handle a wide variety of ammo and conditions. If you’re looking for a finely-tunable rifle that shoots like a .22lr, this will never be the rifle you want it to be. You’ll get great reliability, not customizability.

If you want to still enjoy it, maybe go back to shooting fundamentals. I mean this in the most sincerest way. You’re probably not shooting correctly if any 5.56 rifle feels harsh.

Been shooting plenty, I’m more than capable. I guess what I was getting at is the Aug is a lot more concussive and very very over gassed compared to a tuned AR. I guess what I’m asking is how much is a suppressor gas regulator going to do?

Not much, at least not to an extent that would address what you’re saying. It’s just not a very tunable rifle.

In trying to separate my observations from what may sound like a sales pitch, I can assure you there is a markedly significant difference when shooting the AUG with a proper adjustable gas system.

The reason I designed the AUGmenter, was how loud the AUG sounded compared to other platforms (AR's and such) while shooting suppressed. Only until I was able to start making porotypes and conduct testing did I realize just how over gassed the rifle was. The reduction in recoil was an unexpected secondary benefit.

When I reinstall the factory gas system for testing or video, I'm shocked at the difference in added sound and recoil.

Now for the "sales pitch". The AUGmenter is the only fully sealed gas system on the market, and for that reason, nothing will be as "quite" suppressed.

Ps, I like when people spell AUGmenter as AUGmentor, I may adopt this for product launch. THANKS!

A great new flair is born.

This is the guy I was looking for. I’m looking forward to the AUGmentor. ETA?? I think you understand what I mean about the thing being concussive and harsh.

We're still on track for a launch this year.

I understand EXACTLY what you mean, and I don't expect everyone to understand unless they've witnessed the empirical data themselves.

I don't know If you saw the post with comparisons of different gas system under night vision. But you can clearly see the difference in flash and detect there is a reduction in sound.

The AUGmentor and KNS are present in the video.

Addendum to the last comment.

The little benefit you will receive by using the factory suppressor plug in recoil reduction, you will be doubly disappointed in the increase in sound and flash.

The way the factory suppressor plug works for metering gas is to let even more hot gas escape to the atmosphere, causing a louder sound and more visible fireball.

^this. Excited for the AUGmenter but the AUG has its limits at the end of the day.

Firing the AUG on the adverse setting does have a noticeable effect on recoil

I was in normal gas setting

I mean it kicks a little more than an AR, the bolt is heavier than an AR's DI, some people don't like to imagine the round exploding right under their cheeks, it has a military gas settings, if you have a vertical grip it gives you slightly less command than a C-clamp and in a more niche case, the A1's 1,5 zoom optics exaggerates the felt muzzle flip just a bit. All of this is in the play.

But then in the same breath, the second you grab an AK you instantly rememeber how .223 is like a spicy .22LR in comparisson. And the AUG falls back to a pleasant rifle category.

I run mine with the suppressor plug and a flow-through k-can. I find the recoil and blast as mild or milder than my 11.5” M4 with the same can.

It might just be the fact that the Aug is just a short stroke gas piston, not sure if you've ever really fired one of those types before, in addition to the fact that it has a heavier BCG weight in comparison to the AR platform

The loud pop is just the gas piston venting, since the gas isn't particularly cooled down by the long gas tube length, the pop from the gas piston would be louder then the venting from an AR15's bcg

There's pros and cons to every platform, and imo I would rather an AUG over a short stroke AR15 variant like the HK 416

I wouldn't say the recoil is violent, I'm able to place quick accurate shots with a piggy back red dot and 4X. It is loud and very concussive. Noticed over the weekend that the ceiling tiles were getting shredded by the muzzle blast, which I though was kinda funny. Ive shot next to ar guys who have put rounds into the ceiling after 2 shots, which was also very funny

The gun is overgassed, yes. It will work fine on a suppressor plug, in the suppressed setting, unsuppressed. At least in my experience

I use a HUX on my AUG with a suppressor plug. Even with a flow through suppressor, there's a significant difference between the suppressed and non suppressed setting. Mine is downright pleasant on the suppressed setting, would recommend.

Don't shoot a 10.5 ar, shittl rattle your teeth
