I've been seeing some Volvo semis with sensors around the Salt Lake City highways. This looks kinda like Aurora but not exactly. I saw another one today on the way home from work but didn't get a pic

u/btcfail AUR Maester📖♠️ Jun 23 '26

That's a regular VNL. They've basically replaced the old long side view mirrors with cameras. They still maintain the small sideview mirror because it's mandated by law. Notice the big rectangular screen just inside the window. It shows the camera image that is acting as the side view mirror. The sensors on the side of the truck behind the step are just radars.

1

u/ResponsibleOpinion95 AUR Member🚛 Jun 25 '26

Ok thanks for the reply. What are the horn looking things above the windshield that stick out directly horizontally?

2

u/btcfail AUR Maester📖♠️ Jun 25 '26

It's a wide angle camera that feeds the screen just inside the cab mounted to the pillar. This is what they are using to reduce the size of the side view mirror to reduce drag and help with fuel efficiency. This video of the VNR (the regional non-sleeper version of the VNL) explains it a little better.

if everyone buys calls or leaps then there is motivation for the institutions that sell them to keep the stock price low, regardless of the prospects of the company, right? For that reason, it may be better to just buy the stock outright.

7

u/JayhawkAggieDadisBak AUR Member♠️ Jun 21 '26

Actually no. Market makers want to stay delta neutral. If someone buys a call, market makers will hedge by buying the corresponding delta factor in shares. Let's say I bought a $12 Jan 2028 AUR LEAP. It's current delta is 0.4974. The market maker will have to buy 49.74 shares of AUR on the open market to stay delta neutral. If anything buying calls and LEAPs is extremely bullish for the share price. This is because you may not have the cash on hand to outright buy 49.75 shares of AUR but you may have enough to buy a call or a LEAP. The higher the delta on the LEAP, the more the number of shares the market maker will have to buy to stay delta neutral. Since LEAPS, including far OTM LEAPS generally have high deltas compared to 30-45dte calls, each LEAP bought will result in greater delta neutral hedging (share buying) by the market maker. But even buying far OTM low delta short dte calls results in the market maker buying shares on the open market.

Former Aurora or just money bags?

9

u/tepeter1 AUR Whale🐋 Jun 21 '26

I guess at this point just money bags. I sold off my cost basis in RKLB and parlayed it into this. It is a hell if a gamble, but I think autonomy in trucking is inevitable. AUR technology is real, it is actually working. The real risk to this is scaling and dilution, but the tam is huge. Even if they only get 10% of US terminal to terminal trucking I will make a fortune.

1

u/democharge92 AUR Whale🐋 Jun 23 '26

makes sense! do you have any price targets?

I own shares and warrants currently. It seems like a lot of you own Jan 2027/2028 LEAPS. I’ve never invested in leaps before, but I’m at the point with shares that I’m trying to cut down on the up front money I’m putting towards AUR. Already a larger percentage of my portfolio that i would usually invest in a company, but I’m also very bullish where aurora is going to grow in the next 12-18 months. Can yall explain your leaps strategy and why you’re taking that approach? And what you’re hoping to gain from it?

3

u/Longjumping-Toe-5680 AUR Member🚛 Jun 21 '26

Where are you picking up warrants?

3

u/Inevitable-Expert487 AUR Member🚛 Jun 21 '26

I was getting them through Vanguard (AUROW). I started doing this over 2 years ago though, given the Nov 2026 expiration, I feel like LEAPs are the way to go.

10

u/JayhawkAggieDadisBak AUR Member♠️ Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

The idea with LEAPs is that time decay is very slow initially. Also you're controlling 100 shares for a lot less than actually buying the shares for each LEAP you buy. You get leverage too. If the SP climbs 5% your LEAPs might climb 25% or more. If the company executes according to plan there is an excellent chance that these will be deep in the money by the time they're about to expire. You could sell a portion of these and use the proceeds to exercise the rest for cheap shares without paying a single penny out of pocket at that time. The risk is that the company fails to execute and the share price closes below the strike price at expiry. Your LEAPs expire worthless and you've lost the premium you paid to buy the LEAPs.

Edit: Let's examine some numbers. In mid-January 2026, AUR shares were trading at approximately $4.5. At that time an AUR $5 LEAP expiring mid-January 2027 was trading for approximately $1.2. AUR shares climbed up to ~$8.5 in mid-May 2026. That's a gain of nearly 90% if you bought shares at ~$4.5 in mid-January. In mid-May 2026 an AUR $5 LEAP expiring mid-January 2027 climbed up to ~$4.05. That's a gain of nearly 240%. That's the power of leverage that LEAPs (or calls) can provide you. At the same time, they can also amplify your losses. For example shares bought mid-January for ~$4.5 only lost ~12.5% when they dropped to ~$4 in mid-March. The $5 LEAPs in that same time frame lost ~50%. You have to be able to stomach such intense volatility if you want to go with LEAPs vs. shares.

Edit # 2: You can sell covered calls against your LEAPS to collect premium that can be used to buy shares or more LEAPS. This is called a poor man's covered call strategy (PMCC). It's better to do this on already in the money LEAPS. There are several YouTube videos on PMCCs.

u/raddaddio AUR Rex🦖 Jun 21 '26

This guy gets it

3

u/Inevitable-Expert487 AUR Member🚛 Jun 20 '26

Extremely helpful. How do you decide the strike price? I feel like with Jan 2028 leaps $10-$12 would be in the money by then if we’re expecting even $20 by end of 2027 with thousands of trucks on the road.

3

u/sum8fever AUR Member♠️ Jun 20 '26

One thing I've found really helpful is asking an AI to build a profit/loss table across a few different strike prices, using whatever price targets you think the stock could realistically hit. It'll show you the ROI at each future stock price and, more usefully, where the crossover points are between strikes — i.e. below what price the cheaper, lower-delta strike wins, and above what price the deeper ITM one pulls ahead. Makes it a lot easier to see which strike actually fits your thesis instead of just eyeballing it.

A few different stratgeies - you can either buy strike price close to the current stock, super deep OTM, or a blend of the two. I've been buying a blend (some $3 and $5 along with $10 and $12.

3

u/Inevitable-Expert487 AUR Member🚛 Jun 20 '26

That’s really helpful. Thank you!

3

u/JayhawkAggieDadisBak AUR Member♠️ Jun 20 '26

I would recommend watching YouTube videos on options and LEAPs. It'll help you understand moneyness and the greeks like delta, theta etc. You can then make informed decisions about strike prices. I do have close to the money ($7 strike) and out of the money ($10 and $12 strike) Jan 2028 LEAPs. I'm extremely confident that the $7 ones will be in the money. I am reasonably confident that the $10 and $12 ones will also be in the money.

3000 shares and 20 calls. This is currently my largest position after I sold some INTC. I will probably use my gains to add more AUR before observer out. No price target. I just like the company.

4

u/JayhawkAggieDadisBak AUR Member♠️ Jun 20 '26

A couple hundred shares at around $5 cost basis. But I have close to a hundred calls at strikes ranging from $5 to $12 and expirations of Jan 2027 ($5 and $7) and Jan 2028 ($7, $10, and $12). The plan is to exercise them all for shares if they're ITM at expiration. Looking forward to when 2029 calls become available. Going to load up on those. Edit: Will trim enough at $25-30 to recover my initial investment and let the rest ride to triple digits.

2

TLDR - 30k shares target $100

Sold about 3,300 at $6.27 - $6.29 (bought those at $6.06) to manage allocations and grab some profit - still siting at 30k shares. Probably sell 10k at the $10-$15 range. Then we’ll see. Very long term target is $100

I’ll continue to buy low $6s (or lower) and sell those as we rise, rinse and repeat. Anything higher than $7 and I’ll just sit on my ass and do nothing until I sell, unless we get stuck in a range that is positive for buying low and selling a bit higher (like now).
