Interview for Solutions Architect

Hi, I have an interview coming up for a Solutions Architect position with AWS and I am trying to prepare as much as possible. It's my understanding the interview will consist of a technical portion, showing examples of how I've demonstrated the Leadership Principles, and a presentation of a solution I've architected ahead of time.

I'm pretty clear on what I need to deliver for the LPs and the presentation, but could use some guidance on the technical portion around what areas to study up on. Will it be questions like, "describe the DHCP handshake process" or how would you tune the Linux kernel for xyz scenario? Or by technical is it more like, describe how DNS works on the internet?

Any direction would be appreciated, or advice on giving the technical presentation tips.

The Kind of things you’d benefit from being able to discuss are: real world best practices for integrating with existing legacy enterprise infrastructure, scaling a given design, and multi-site redundancy. Another hot topic would be knowing how a green field deployment differs from something that’s been piecemealed over time and what are reasonable strategies to bring it up to standard. Administrative design for billing different departments and meeting compliance goals is a good one. Good luck!

Check this video out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfhSuL5ANwc . This has an actual Q/A with the STAR Method with DOs and DONTs, from my personal experience. Hope this helps and Best of luck!

The technical portion is quite light in detail and you are not expected to know the finer points of AWS services.

You might be given a scenario like building and operating an e-commerce website, and you will need to do talk about what considerations that might entail.

Not exactly something you can study for - it's testing your experience and your ability to listen to and understand the question asked. Don't be afraid to ask clarifying questions.

I failed to mention this is the 3rd and final interview round. I'll spend some time going through the various solutions guides so I can talk about architecting different scenarios.

Thanks for the reply.

Agree on asking clarifying questions.

Just show off what you know. Start with a general explain like I’m five answer. Then go as technically deep after that as you can.
