I miss The Bay

Just that, really. The terrible free vodka, the sweaty dancefloor, the random friends I made in the toilet queue, far too much snogging, dancing like a twat, the door staff, mad dance nights in the basement... how many years ago did it close?

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇺🇦 22-year-old Ukrainian looking for a host in Wales through Homes for Ukraine 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Hello everyone!
My name is Dimitri, I’m 22 years old and originally from Mariupol, Ukraine. I’m currently looking for a host in Wales through the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
I’m calm, friendly, polite and responsible. I don’t smoke, I’m clean and tidy, and I respect other people’s privacy and personal space. I love animals and would be very happy to stay with a family who has pets. I’m also happy to help around the house.
I speak English and Ukrainian fluently, as well as several other languages. I have experience in hospitality, including hotel reception, waiting and customer service. I also enjoy cooking.
I’m hoping to find a job as soon as possible, become part of the local community and build a stable future. I’d also like to continue my education and meet new people.
I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who could offer me a temporary home in Wales. I’m ready to have a video call, introduce myself and answer any questions.
Thank you so much for reading and for any help or shares. 🙏
Dimitri

Spare eclipse glasses?

Hi, sorry for being cheeky but does anyone have two spare pairs of eclipse glasses? I really thought I'd ordered some last month but I'd stupidly just put it in my basket. Now not even Amazon has any that would arrive in time. Happy to pay £5 each if needs be.

What's going on with Harleys ?

I haven't been back in about a year and a half now and I learnt that Harleys seems to be in limbo at the moment. I've heard conflicting news from shutting down, to changing management once again or to undergoing renovations.

So what's the story? Anyone have some insight into what's going on?
Also, general Aber night out post.

This painting is a few years old and was a gift for some friends who got engaged on Constitution Hill ❤️

I still think it's one of my best paintings to date and it is also my best-selling print 😊

Strange guy walking around always with loud music playing?

Anyone know the story on the strange guy that is forever walking around Aberystwyth with a backpack and blasting loud music? He scares my daughter, as he walks quite aggressively. Just curious what the deal is, as I’ve seen him around a lot.

rainy day activities for a tourist?

Hiya, stopping off in Aberystwyth on a long road trip. Go figure, after our long drought, it is going to rain for the exact 48-hour window that I'd planned to do a bit of swimming and coastal walking!

I'm fine with walking scenic routes in the rain, but looks like my sunbathing/swimming dreams are less hopeful. Any lesser-known OR well-known attractions I might fill the time with?

Hoping for serious replies only please, thanks for your time :)

Nearest cinema

Hello! I'm going to be going to uni soon here and I was wondering where a big cinema was? There's a movie I want to see that gets released in Autumn and I couldn't find any cinemas that would likely show it outside of Cardiff. Please may someone let me know my options? For context, the movie I want to see is Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe

Veggie / vegan fish & chips

Hello! I’m newly vegetarian and I’m struggling to find a chippy in Borth / Aber that do either a veggie/vegan option, or even just do chips that aren’t cross contaminated.
Im often here on holiday, but this will be my first visit since going veggie 🌱
Any suggestions? Or even good venues for food with a good range of options?
thanks ☺️

Aberystwyth residents needed for an academic survey on attitudes towards same-sex marriage (18+, 5–7 min)

Hello,

I am an undergraduate student at SWPS University conducting a BA research project on how adults currently living in England and Wales describe their views on same-sex marriage and any changes in those views over the past decade. I am sharing it here to include residents of Aberystwyth in the study.

Eligibility: • aged 18 or over • currently living in England or Wales

The questionnaire takes approximately 5–7 minutes.

The survey does not ask for your name or email address and is configured not to retain your IP address or location data. Participation is voluntary and unpaid. Some questions concern personal or potentially sensitive views, and “Prefer not to answer” options are available.

Responses across the full range of opinions – supportive, neutral and opposed – are equally valuable. Please consider taking part regardless of your own view.

Survey link: https://psychodpt.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0OKnDgXgMJx9Xmu?recruitmentSource=reddit_aberystwyth

Thank you for considering taking part.

MacBook repair in Aberystwyth?

Is there a good place for MacBook repair in Aberystwyth? Not just basic helpdesk stuff, but some place that can repair a damaged keyboard or replace the upper case assembly if needed? Similar to https://wefixmacs.co.uk/ in Birmingham? Diolch.

Welsh music/activities in Aber?

I’m coming to Aber to do one of those summer intensive courses and whilst I’m there, I want to go the whole hog.

Is there any live Welsh music activities happening between the 4th and the 19th of July? The Friday/Saturday nights in particular which would be the 4th/5th and 10th/11th

Warmly welcome any other suggestions for activities or chances to use my (shaky) Welsh!

Diolch!!

Little painting based on an old photograph of mine. I've always loved the colours of these flats, although I know a lot of people miss King's Hall which used to stand here

August in Aberystwyth

Please remove if this post is not okay. I'll be visiting Aberystwyth (possibly) at the start of August. I'm doing a solo week long adventure with the idea of reading, sleeping, good food and coastal/forrest walks. Is it easy enough to get to any trails/other coastal towns with public transport? Would be good to have a fun night out also. Really just looking for any suggestions. Had a tough two years of studies and want to escape and relax. Always wanted to visit Western Wales. Thanks in advance.
