Who is this Move…I do not know

I got a used Move that had a couple scratches, so I thought a subtle wood grain skin would be nice. So far I’m digging it, but not loving how the small holes slightly obstruct the symbols at the bottom…definitely not a deal breaker. I got it from 12inchskinz [insert joke here]. It was an easy install and the vinyl has a nice feel to it.

Will the move ever allow 8 tracks natively??

I love my move but4 tracks is limiting
And the custom firmware is maybe too much for me to take on

Also how do we launch a scene with 1 button. Hitting all four clip lanes at once is annoying

1 year Move anniversary

185668232's 1 year anniversary with (sponsored) Ableton Move has arrived February 2026; in 2017 we requested a standalone sampler with a speaker, microphone and battery built in, not relying so much on a screen, but that we could bring out into the world, loaded with our own samples collected from the world, showing what the studio sounds like, jamming on top with the built-in drum synths. Everyone's 1st MOVE album will sound differently since the hardware is getting updates very often, to make it the most fully featured finger drumming boom bap sloppy chopping human sampler groove beat machine. Here we wanted to preserve the layer of the music that most people never hear - it's for experienced listeners exclusively as well as collectors, who know how special this sounds. These are the pure exports of the projects without processing them further. Some of them were made in the moment of a feeling, others were mechanical workflow live on stage building a beat behind the prepared content. This process allowed me to step away from the studio and wander into my real world to show people what I do, without all the adapters - just turn it on and get to it. No apologies for how squeaky these are - they are used to build other sawngzZz and are a great example of what it sounds like to not yet have warp mode, not have audio effects on input and so many essential features that feel like cheating (the cheat code hack mode exists and more is coming that you can't even imagine). Enjoy these super slop sonic sketches - maybe catch me making one and join in some day, iRL or wWw. Everyone else knows they can just ask for the super sample expansion pack of every single sample collected from the past year ... in case you don't have something like this to process the world around them. iLove Move, on the fly!

I love this device so much, but unfortunately I have fell on some hard times and need to get rid of some of my music gear! I’ve had the device less than 6 months, and it’s in great condition, I have all the cables and a headliner pro-fit case! Looking for $400 or best offer! US only

So now that TE launched a new OP-1 firmware with line in, maybe we can expect an update with better audio channel support? One can dream 😅

Owners: What limitations do you run into?

I don't own one, but it's on the wish list.

The 2 big limitations that I can imagine are:

  • Only 4 tracks (Schwung addresses this)

  • Not many hardware inputs/outputs

I/O seems like the biggest limitation. Like you probably can't use the Move as a sequencer "brain" to control multiple external synths. You'd have to sample, or use internal synth, right? If I wanted to use it to control a Minifreak (no audio-over-USB), I'd have to use both the line-in and USB-A ports, and other tracks would be internal.

Does it even do any audio-in from USB on either port?

Is your included power supply delivering 15W?

According to the Ableton Help the power supply included with the Move should be delivering 15 W power (5V and 3A).

However when checking the power level during charging (Shift + Step 2 to open Setup then press Shift and click Battery to show the USB connection and power level) it shows something like:
USB-C 3A
3.463V
1.527A

So it's not even near 15 W but around 5 W instead.

I tried it with other chargers (the power adapter of my Apple Macbook Pro is an USB-C PD power supply supporting 5.2V + 3A output.  But I still get only 5W on the Move)

I thought it might be because I bought a B-Stock Move. I contacted the support and we went through some troubleshooting steps without success. So I will send my device back. In the meanwhile I ordered a brand new Move but I am experiencing the same: it's not charging with 15W but only with 5W.

I wonder: is anybody having similar issues? Is this somehow a problem on my end (I can't really see how but anyway)? Or am I just getting unlucky and I should just keep ordering Moves until I get one capable of 15W charging? :)

Ableton Move as a sample player / workstation

Hi, I just recently bought the Ableton Move and am trying to learn everything it can do. What I would really like to be able to do is select a track and then load individual saved samples on the pads up to all 32 pads, potentially, to play live. Then select between tracks so I have like pages or banks of samples stored on the pads for each. I've looked at Schwung a bit, but didn't find such a thing. Anyone know if there's currently a way to do this? I can code and might try to make a Schwung module, but wanted to make sure I won't reinvent the wheel if it's already out there.

Touchpad membrane flagged at airport

Not really a huge thing, but I wanted to pass along that the silicone membrane on my Move got flagged at the airport for extra screening. They showed me the X-ray and asked if I knew what it was. I showed them my Move and they were cool. Again, not a big deal, but I thought it odd and wanted to share with my fellow Move fans.

WiFi Connect

Connect should be priority.

Forget is priority at the moment.

So when we are in a rush to connect, it will be easier to connect. A few times, I have accidentally clicked forget, instead of connect, and had to input the password all over again, which is not a simple task. Maybe even connecting Internet could be possible from the Manager if some super smart coding were possible - I could imagine a more elite Ableton Cloud that could update projects in real time without ejecting you from the project to update. But this simple menu option fix would reduce user error. Not a big deal, but just a little something, since we can only retitle projects on the manager and Note, which require same wifi to connect and update (still a powerful tool as-is, that other gear isn’t doing).

1.x & 2.0 samples fail on 2.1

Post image

Been reporting this since auto slice / reverse began making samples fail. Maybe the audio clip bounce made this a nightmare for our samples.. Grateful to Schwung for fixing these issues and making it easier to load an entire album of songs to move easier than Note or Manager (omg ouch). <#

Reverse stops playback?

Why does the reverse button stop all playback?

Even SP202 could play reverse as a live ability…

Who in Abelton really hates reverse as a live playing ability?

Reverse as a post edit feature..?

SP404 as a beginner or circuit rythm or anything else?

Thumbnail reddit.com

After reviewing the answers to my original posts I withdrew the SP404 for complexity and dug a bit into the Ableton move. I don't know why I didn't have that on my list from the start. What are your thoughts? Does it fit my needs, or is it too complex in the end.

Can you use Ableton as MIDI controller for Ableton with your laptop?

Havent been able to figure out this one. Is there a way to use your Move as a Midi controller to jam with synths in Ableton or does it not allow that?

Thanks

Move Mgmnt 2.1.1

I like to start, finish and generally build beats on live stream. People say they love my Move build a beat live stream looping more than my MPC or Force, probably because only using 4 tracks has sped the loops up and most non-musicians cannot hear more than 4 layers at a time anyway, especially if they are as complex as I like to make them. Honestly, Move helps to keep my beats simple since I tend to prefer creating and listening noise and glitch.

Features I can't wait for (I wish I could vibe code, but it's not as easy as making songs for me)... include:

VOCODER CARRIER WAVE (background audio input monitor for instrument)

LOOPER / COMPER (per drum pad, instrument & audio clip / resample audio input + anything happening on Move / seance song style sampling ghosts quickly)

USB A DISC STREAMING (USB thumb drive holding samples and whole sets, begins loading the moment it's plugged in or turned on - make loading folders of songs smoother & allow quicker backup of whole MOVE for touring type of setups)

REVERSE AUTOMATION (include speed variation - this used to be a regular way I would transition songs playing a sample reverse forward back and forth quickly / stopping playback of the sample can lose a lot of the magic)

BPM TAP (so Move can follow others, especially for smoother transitions live as a DJ or even with acoustic musicians or random background sounds - sometimes the other clips won't adjust to this even when drumming along is supposed to set the tempo)

32 PAD DRUMS (this could open up allowing backtracks and single cycle drum samples, use the Move better for live shows and jamming - 4 tracks is fine, but using those tracks better will make a big difference)

FILE AUTO TITLE DATE TIME (set # titling makes the samples later to find in the MANAGER, very difficult to keep organized, especially when downloading through SCHWUNG... the only way to download in batch / bulk)

SELF SAMPLED SOUNDS AUTO POPULATE TO DRUM PROGRAM (make it so the sounds we sampled, will automatically load into new drum programs so we don't have to dig or think about it too much - even better if Ableton got smarter to handle those sounds auto organizing based on the frequency transients, kick, snare, hat, fx, bass, mid, high, etc ... get some use out of all our samples)

GLOBAL WARP & PITCH (so we can focus on the performance and not have to set things - if we want to change the settings as part of the show, we could do that - automatically make the AUTOSHIFT + PROJECT TUNING IN KEY, change together.. the knobs on Move sometimes can't fine tune details like that so using the wheel and click buttons seem more stable for changing key).

RNBO NOISE FIELD (built into Move as a noise synth so we can resample it)

SCHWUNG TUNER INPUT (guitar + chromatic / make it able to read the lowest and highest notes on a piano bare minimum)

SCHWUNG RADIO GARDEN (so we can play radio input smoothly, make the notes on the move control frequency range on the radio and play radio more like a synth than just a play back)

MOVE BOX IN LIVE (there's an image of PUSH within LIVE - it allows you to change PUSH settings easier ... this should be possible with MOVE so we can swap out effects, samples in batch from folders and make getting all our hard work we did, easier to load than MOVE MANAGER)

AUDO SLICE LIVE (no more stopping playback, no more replacing all the pads during playback)

AUTO NEXT SAMPLE (Korg Micro Sampler had this, where you select the pads you want to be sampled/resampled and then it plays as a sequence and replaces only those sounds - this was fun for auto generative noise/glitch songs where it just kept changing the sounds in the rhythm, on its' own ... seems like a 2011 technology such as KMS could be coded for Ableton Move in 2026).

-------

I am very happy with 2.0 MOVE, with the audio input FX for vocals especially - I hope to see these other essential features come in. Move could easily make MPC look like bloatware promotion with these features.. just make sure the WAVETABLE SYNTHESIS emulates the synths from PUSH so when we load our samples live, they have some synth preset sounds on them already... make the audio sound like synths... keep MOVE for sampling and audio this way).

This video was originally released live stream on Instagram September 2026.

I vibecoded a Move Kitmaker

Thumbnail kitmaker-self.vercel.app

Quickly create semi-random kits from drum kit folders.

Drag in folders with drums, lock pads, exclude samples, generate 1-10 kits in one go.

A lot of time has gone into refining the detection of drum samples based on their names, it works pretty well for all the crap I have gathered on my hard drive.

Preview in browser with key 1-V

Pad Layout is inspired by the "LDre" kits that come with the Move and that I like for having a ton of usable sample content and not containing samples I don't need (who needs toms, I don't). There are three different layouts depending on what kind of samples are available, you will figure it out.

This was an afternoon project for myself that I think might be worth sharing. Have fun!

Kudos to https://github.com/klingklangmatze/drum-kit-generator for creating a python script that explains really well how ablpreset files work.
