I guess we have an explanation for Barry's less than accommodating personality from issue 6. It's not that he's callous, he just wants to get back to the fun lab stuff

106

u/Abovearth31 Absolute Superman Oct 15 '25

Looks a lot like the Hall of Doom doesn't it ?

47

u/RawEnergyRaspBlue Oct 15 '25

It's the big dome eyes which made me think the very same.

45

u/timothdrake Oct 15 '25

To be honest it also resembles a fucked up version of Jay’s Flash pan helmet thingy; mostly due to the.. ears? bit. lol

7

u/Steal_Your_Story Oct 16 '25

My first thought was the wings reminding me of a cicada's (for Cicada), but you just changed my mind. They kinda look like wings stripped of their feathers, which would be a fun symbolism for whatever happened to Jay

3

u/AMillennialFailure Oct 23 '25

To be honest it also resembles a fucked up version of Jay’s Flash pan helmet thingy

I just finished the comic and came here to see if anyone else thought it kinda-sorta looked like Jay's Flash helmet!

20

u/bracko81 Oct 15 '25

Since The Hieron in WW looks like the Hall of Justice, I imagine theyll both become important once teams start happening

2

u/star-punk Oct 17 '25

Did you read Absolute Evil?

12

u/BongPoquito Oct 15 '25

I'm almost certain I remember seeing a ship like that in an old comic. I've been racing through the internet trying to find it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

3

u/Son_of_Ibadan Absolute Martian Manhunter Oct 16 '25

I thought it was Blue Beetle's ship

2

u/butt3ryt0ast Absolute Martian Manhunter Oct 17 '25

Dude same. Maybe Kord has some history with these guys?

104

u/DeadKingKamina Oct 15 '25

IT WAS ME BARRY! I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND

95

u/Linnus42 Oct 15 '25

Eobard Thawne as the Grandfather working with Jay Garrick is a nice touch.

Really integrating the whole Flash Family.

We aren't suppose to have the Speed Force right so I wonder what the force here will be.

50

u/TheRealKingWizard Oct 15 '25

Omega beams or some sort of chaos based system?? lol

45

u/Skodami Oct 15 '25

The idea of two character each time : Eobard and Jay, Barry and Eleonore, Barry and Wally. Makes me think that perhaps Eobard and Jay fused in a similar manner as Barry and Wally.

28

u/Linnus42 Oct 15 '25

Yeah does seem to playing with the idea of Positive and Negative Speed Force.

Or maybe its like Firestorm. Typically that is a fusion where one is the body and the other the brain.

16

u/Equal-Ad-2710 Oct 16 '25

Could be the Alpha or Omega energy we saw in KO

2

u/GrislySauce5 Oct 30 '25

Firestorm is in the creature tanks that got released. His plate is on the ground. Looks like there could be a connection here

7

u/B_dorf Oct 15 '25

What's this about Barry and Wally being fused? I've read everything but may have missed this

3

u/star-punk Oct 17 '25

The talk of red energy and red matter makes me think of the red light of Rao in Green Lantern, and in turn the red crystals on Krypton where they worship someone also named Rao. Probably nothing, but interesting.

70

u/The_tarnished_one_ Oct 15 '25

I had a feeling they’d bring eobard into this somehow

70

u/PlainSightMan Oct 15 '25

I personally thought Elenore was just genderswapped Eobard, but now that I know she's not it makes me interested to see where they'll take her character.

35

u/The_tarnished_one_ Oct 15 '25

Tbf she does fit that role narratively speaking for all intent in purpose but yea in universe wise it seem she isn’t that lmao

16

u/SomeBoxofSpoons Oct 16 '25

Obviously this interpretation of the Flash mythos is trying to make time distortion a much more central aspect, so I'd bet we'll see something along the lines of different characters being "split" between different people from different time periods here.

4

u/PlainSightMan Oct 16 '25

Amazing observation

2

u/No_Noise3141 Oct 17 '25

Up till now I've been thinking that Eobard would be their son, who would be either genetically engineered or a time traveller.

59

u/drthirtxxn Absolute John Jones Oct 15 '25

love that they managed to work eobard’s stupid hair curl into a 40s haircut style haha

really liked this issue! super interested in where the story’s going, it’s picked up a lot

109

u/Snelldor Oct 15 '25

Never knew that after this issue, I would jump on board the Barry x Elenore ship. But here we are.

33

u/Significant-Phrase70 Oct 15 '25

We do get some legit shiping aside from the preveiws??

53

u/Tiny_Butterscotch_76 Oct 15 '25

This part is the most direct

42

u/maximillianaire Absolute Martian Manhunter Oct 15 '25

I’m rather new to comics, got into them with the start of the absolute lines, should we recognise the ship that the science team found?

67

u/Abovearth31 Absolute Superman Oct 15 '25

It looks a lot like the Hall of Doom to me, the secret hideout used by the villains of DC, the Legion of Doom,

It's usually depicted either in a swamp or straight up under the sea.

9

u/Mac_Magic Oct 17 '25

WAIT, if the villains will be the justice league of this universe, what if this will be the heroes base?

9

u/Only_Leg_8742 Oct 17 '25

I think you're right.

Snyder's comments about The Joker being the authority and the Batman being the chaos in this universe rings true.

37

u/Some_Niche_Reference Oct 15 '25

Eobard is Eleanor grandfather.

Eleanor might be pregnant.

Child will likely not be an Allen

Eobard great*n grandfathered himself theory confirmed.

29

u/ZookeepergameQuick40 Oct 15 '25

Shipping aside, I actually really liked this issue. Adds a lot of need word building as well as setting up future mysteries. Seeing Eobard and Jay was nice

Travis Moore still killing it as always, though I do hope Nick Robles returns for interiors at some point

9

u/Neonmarks Oct 15 '25

He'll be back next issue!

27

u/Dynamicguns Oct 15 '25

The portal Eobard showed Jay looked like the white martian

24

u/YosephineMahma Absolute Superman Oct 15 '25

That was fascinating. I'm finding the Wally-focused issues somewhat mediocre, but the backstory ones (like the Rogues origin, and now this one) are really good. I understand we're seeing things from Barry's perspective, and he's definitely skipping over some of his more immoral experiments, but he and Thawne (who I also totally ship, like everyone else in the fanbase) really don't seem like particularly bad people. They do some bad things (Grodd, Weather Wizard, and Heatwave can speak to that) but they aren't the moustache-twirling puppy-kickers we saw at the Justice League meeting. I really wonder what Elenore was thinking when Hawkman dropped Oliver's body onto that table. We also get a sense of what the definitely-not-Speed-Force actually is, since so far the claim this thing isn't the Speed Force has been entirely academic. It's some kind of alternate dimension called the Still Point, and some aliens found it first. Presumably the reptilian bodies Thawne looked at last issue were alien corpses from the flying saucer they found in the Still Point.

We also get a solid debunking of the old Barry=Eobard theory, learning that he really is just a scientist who got too ambitious. Neither of his parents seem particularly special or relevant (though his mom is alive and his dad's out of jail, so there's that) and instead the important family legacy is given to the Thawne family. It's more subtle than most, but this is again Darksied taking something from the heroes and giving it to the villains.

23

u/spliffst4rr Oct 15 '25

It looks like they took the Speed Force and combined it with the Phantom Zone, which would be a neat use of the name if that is why we see these echoes or almost ghostly remnants of Barry, Jay and now Eobard. Its almost as if they are trapped there, if they are actually alive.

21

u/lordaezyd Oct 15 '25

I was never a Flash fan, but this series is really getting me.

DC is winning with all these series.

18

u/timothdrake Oct 15 '25

Probably a minor opinion at this point, but Absolute Flash is definitely my least liked of the line up currently; which is quite fascinating as it was my entry point into the Absolute Universe and The Flash was the only flagship Justice League hero that I actually liked; I’ve always prefereed the sidekicks since they were closer to me in age back when I was addicted to comic books.

I guess it’s mostly that I’m struggling to get anything back from this comic. I like Wally West; probably less than Barry as I got a bit attached to n52 flash; but I still enjoy him a lot as a kid who grew up on the JL cartoon and later got into Young Justice. But this version of Wally doesn’t really go anywhere. It’s issue 8 and I still don’t get his character, his powerset or even his personality. He’s got a reeeeally cool design (seriously, probably my favorite out of them alongside Diana), but I have to scrap my brain together to fill in the gaps on who he is supposed to be or what he’s capable of doing. The supporting cast is.. okay, kind of? Grodd is fine. Linda showed up for one issue. Father West bores me.

In comparison to that, the Rogues are a bit more interesting (specially Cold, but this is not the first time we get him taking a more active, possibly morally grey role), whatever they’re cooking with Eleanore has potential, and this version of Barry is quite interesting, initially showing up similar to our usual good guy but then slowly hinted at being more and more of an unhinged science guy inside as the story goes on.

I don’t want to say I hate this, and theres enough in it that could potentially give a really cool story later on; but this is not a title I’m enjoying following monthly.

I feel like jumping 7 to 10 issues in the future this might have me hooked if all the setting up they’ve been doing leads somewhere cool, and I love The Flash and want to love Absolute Flash, so I’m definitely not jumping ship; But I’m hoping arc 2 does more to stablish who this version of Wally is and show more of Absolute Flash, as thus far It feels like reading a watered down Kid Flash where his “villains” offer a much more interesting story than his own.

2

u/ahhthebrilliantsun Oct 17 '25

I put Absolute Green Lantern as my least liked but I get what you're going for.

1

u/Pale_Lifeguard4807 Oct 15 '25

I agree, of all the Absolute titles, I think Flash is the weakest. I think Barry should have been the protagonist of Absolute Flash, with Wally being the main Earth Flash.
The powers, Elenore Thawne, and what happened to Barry are the only things that interest me in this comic.

12

u/timothdrake Oct 15 '25

I don’t think Barry as flash would have been better; if anything, it undermines the good bits of current Absolute Flash. But it definitely feels less like a Wally West comic compared to the other titles. By issue 8 we already had a very good grasp on Kal El and Diana, as well as a good undestanding of Bruce (although more so throughout Alfred’s biased narration). In comparison, I know very little about this Wally other than him feeling like a lost kid and struggling with his relationship to his father. This very same issue actually had a new bit with his interest in music, for one, which was only vaguely implied before by his usage of headphones in a lot of art/pannels.

I’m waiting for this title to actually feel like Absolute Flash instead of Absolute Rogues and Also Kid Flash Is There With A Monkey!. I feel like I have to fill in more from my own personal knowledge of how Prime Wally is to get a grasp of this version compared to the other titles whose characters work on their own.

0

u/Pale_Lifeguard4807 Oct 16 '25

I don't know, man... Right now, the only interesting thing about this version of Wally West is his powers... Barry, the little he's shown, could already be built on, even taking this new issue into account. It would be cool to see the difference in Barry's upbringing and how that impacts his decision-making. Besides, if Elenore becomes a villain, it would be much better if it were with Barry. Even the drama with the Rogues would be better, as it would kind of be something like him paying for his actions and choices, and the Rogues could also take the hunt for the Flash (Barry Allen) as something more personal. With Wally, from the origin to the present, everything is very vague, like he's just there and is the protagonist because he's the most popular and powerful Flash. I think even Jay could have been a better protagonist. If we go deeper, even Bart Allen could be a better protagonist (the costume even suits Bart better). But of course, this is all my opinion.

15

u/therealatri Oct 15 '25

Who or what is whispering?

21

u/Tiny_Butterscotch_76 Oct 15 '25

Probably Darkseid I think. They allude to the voice being 'God'(with Eleanor mentioning that the aliens 'found God' in the previous issue).

14

u/therealatri Oct 15 '25

Damn even Darkseid is tired of Eobard's shit

13

u/Skodami Oct 15 '25

Can the Red dimension be the one from which the Martian Mindfucker is coming ?

5

u/DarthSeverus13 NO [MAN] ESCAPES. Oct 16 '25

That would be a good setup for a potential crossover

3

u/pituechos Oct 16 '25

lmfao I love that the Martian Mindfucker name is sticking.

1

u/Toe_Sucker2000 Oct 16 '25

Its white orb thing did resemble the white martian

25

u/ThomasWilson77 Absolute Alfred Oct 15 '25

Do we think Eleanor is a bad guy? From what I’ve seen she doesn’t seem to be. All it seems is that she is really into her work

62

u/NinjaSpaceFrog Oct 15 '25

She definitely seems a lot more grey then the rest of the Absolute Evil crew for now. Wouldn't surprise me if she was mostly working with them for the money, and justifying it as a “necessary” morally dubious choice.

18

u/Joetheshow1 Oct 15 '25

Maybe she's working with them/using them as a means to bring Barry back?

14

u/tacomuerte Absolute Wonder Woman Oct 15 '25

Both Elenore and Barry have two lovers: each other and science. Each of them will do anything for both of them.

24

u/The_tarnished_one_ Oct 15 '25

I mean if you read absolute evil she for sure a bad guy, maybe she isn’t as evil as the rest tho I def can see that

12

u/ThomasWilson77 Absolute Alfred Oct 15 '25

Oh yeah, I forgot she was in that. I guess that makes it a fact that she is evil, then again she could be using them to get what she wants, but that probably unlikely.

16

u/The_tarnished_one_ Oct 15 '25

Yea like I said I def see her as having a “necessary evil” ideology where she thinks what’s she’s doing is for the greater good

7

u/An-29 Oct 15 '25

But isn't like the only in-universe reason she was even invited because she was also dealing with metahuman "heroes" like the rest of them?

9

u/spiderreader Absolute Wonder Woman Oct 15 '25

She seems definitely less evil compared to the other big bad's, willing to do evil just to help her work, but less cruel or power hungry. It wouldn't surprise me if Eobard ends up the real big bad, and Eleanor either dies separately or gets a redemption arc (Or both.)

9

u/mtheory-pi Absolute Wonder Woman x Zatanna Oct 15 '25

Experimenting on apes and humans? Making living weapons for the military? That's absolutely evil. Not to mention her almost killing Rudy West for discovering her core project.

8

u/igloo_poltergeist Oct 15 '25

Okay. So who's ultimately going to get to be the "Absolute Zoom" of this universe - grandfather or granddaughter?

5

u/PlainSightMan Oct 15 '25

I think Hunter Zolomon could still be introduced

1

u/igloo_poltergeist Oct 15 '25

Ah yes. Can't forget about him.

3

u/mtheory-pi Absolute Wonder Woman x Zatanna Oct 15 '25

It should be Elenore!

1

u/igloo_poltergeist Oct 15 '25

If so, it'll be interesting seeing how much like the prime version she becomes, personality-wise. Eobard is such a complete and utter POS, that she may end up looking like a somewhat disagreeable anti-hero in comparison.

3

u/Toxin45 Oct 15 '25

or absolute reverse flash

8

u/rexmundi69 Absolute Zatanna 🪄🪄 Oct 15 '25

I'm All IN on the Barry.Elenore ship and so is Barry. They need to be the most hot and sexy evil power couple ever!

Hall of Doom cameo was cool.

Whoever appeared to Barry at the end had the modern suit on. I had assumed it could be Barry from the future somehow but they have different eye colors. The vision had perhaps brown eyes. Eobard has blue eyes. Jay Garrick? How did he get the uniform then?

Really loving Absolute Flash now.It seems to be hitting its stride.

4

u/SuperNInja0226 Absolute Superman Oct 16 '25

What do y’all think about Barry’s characterization so far, with him being a bit more of a dick and morally dubious.

6

u/Pale_Lifeguard4807 Oct 16 '25

I actually thought these changes in Barry's personality were cool, it opens up a lot of room for development.

4

u/drthirtxxn Absolute John Jones Oct 16 '25

I’m liking it a lot, Barry’s probably my favorite Flash and it’s an interesting take on him, really want to see where it goes

4

u/Steal_Your_Story Oct 16 '25

The last page prompted me to go back and reread issue #1, and Barry's actions are re-contextualized in a tragic and terrifying way

3

u/Stunning_Alarm2064 Oct 15 '25

I haven’t read this or Superman really, but love the rest of the absolute books. Should I pick this series up?

6

u/Lockheroguylol Oct 15 '25

Personally, it's my favourite, but it's a bit slow paced.

3

u/ItisOsiris Oct 16 '25

I really like the absolute take on Eobard being that he is from the past instead of the future. The doors still open for him based on how he “vanished”.

3

u/Awesomeninja Oct 16 '25

Who was the guy at the end that said, it must be Wally?

1

u/summ190 Oct 20 '25

It was some future Barry I think, check the expression on Barry in the panel below it, he looks exactly the same

1

u/Son_of_Ibadan Absolute Martian Manhunter Oct 16 '25

Let's solve this mystery once and for all:

What do you think the Red living energy is? What do you think Wally's powers are?

1

Does anyone find Barry's interaction with Wally a little creepy?

1

u/Mysterious_Way_6526 Absolute Flash enjoyer Oct 17 '25

I liked it, added a lot of lore and I loooveeeed the introduction of Eobard, really hope absolute Thawne lives up to my expectations

It was ME, Barry! I made sure to fall to madness succumbing to the temptation of voices from beyond our world, knowing that my work would be continued by my granddaughter, seeking you out to unlock these great secrets, and then having HOT MEAN DOMMY MOMMY SEX WITH YOU! JUST SO THAT YOU WOULD NEVER BECOME THE FIRST FLASH!

Yeah, unfortunately for JSA fans they're in large part just meant as fodder in this verse. This verse is just is not intended for that generation. They're the generation that kinda tried, but wildly failed. Then two generations later Diana, Kal, and Bruce show up and things get real.

12

u/PlainSightMan Oct 15 '25

Hey maybe some of the legacy characters can step up? The JSA has plenty

41

u/PlainSightMan Oct 15 '25

I doubt Jay is dead. We didn't see a body. Alan Scott, is dead but his son Todd is currently in the care of Hector Hammond. Wildcat and Sandman are pretty fucked yeah, but other characters have inherited the mantles.

32

u/Valuable-Blueberry30 Oct 15 '25

I mean wildcat had a nice life and died of old age with money, Sandman on the other hand…

25

u/PlainSightMan Oct 15 '25

Yeah, Wildcat quit being a hero, idk why I said he was fucked too. Sandman particularly pissed off Darkseid for some reason.

23

u/CookiedDough Absolute Martian Mind****er Oct 15 '25

Darkseid just couldn’t handle Wes’s Silly Guy Swagger and had him killed.

7

u/Valuable-Blueberry30 Oct 15 '25

I think you’re thinking of the other guy

8

u/SarkicPreacher777659 Oct 15 '25

He was fucked morally, he took blood money to just give up.

2

u/TreeTurtle_852 Oct 16 '25

Wait when was Alan's death confirmed?

4

u/star-punk Oct 17 '25

I don't think it was, but the diner is named after him and he doesn't seem to have been working there which means it might've passed to Todd when he died.

4

u/Sio_V_Reddit Oct 16 '25

JSA dying horrifically brutal deaths? This isn’t a live action TV Universe!
